Scotland west coast trip.. tell me where to go!!
Bush Rummager replied to Bush Rummager's topic in General Talk
Dropped down the coast for our second week.. about half hour south of Oban at Melfort.. nice little set of holiday let's right on the shore of the loch. Talking of fishing, the father in law had his rod out and dropped onto some Mackerel off the jetty here.. only a minute walk from the cottage.. he was well chuffed with that and my eldest couldn't wait to get a couple ready for the oven!! I went for a poke about up some hills yesterday and with the bins i could make out the father in law with both my daughters on the jetty after yet more Mackerel. To be honest they've really to -
First.. and last time.. trying an Oyster!! I think they're just a gimmick tbh.. Washed it down with smoked Salmon and some frozen chips accompanied with some Maccys red sauce out of the glove box!!? Was at the Oyster shed.. on Skye..

Some way up that is mate!! We're moving south for our second week on Saturday. Staying on the shore of Loch Melfort. The father in law has brought a few rods along so we'll see what comes of it. It's a shame he can't make it down the steep banking here to get on Lochcarron.. lovely little secluded bay just opposite the cottage, he could have it all to himself. I spent an hour down there late the other evening watching an Otter.. pure bliss! just wish I'd taken a couple of cans down with me!, lol.. Beats being sat in the cottage watching embarrassing bodies or some other su -

Fair play to you mate for getting the wild camping in with the family.. bet you had some proper quality time together there. And the memory building with the kids.. they'll probably bring their kids back to Firemore.. just like you did.. lol!! It's fairly busy on the roads up here to say the least righ now.. being the summer holls and that coupled with NC500 boom that's going on.. every type of vehicle you can image on the roads today.. cycles.. motorbikes with side cars.. campers, caravans.. kitted out old busses and everything in between!! Loads of wild camping too in some cracking sp -

Made it upto Firemore beach today TOMO.. some place isn't it! Nice that it's that just that bit out of the way and therefore not too busy at all. We drove up by Kinlochewe to Gairloch. Had picnic on the beach there, then into Gairloch itself for a cuppa and some cake to was the picnic down.. lol. Then from there did the 12 miles upto Firemore. Weather was kind to us even though they'd forcast showers. Absolutely stunning place isn't it.. Came back via the A897.. Kinlochewe to Torridon road.. absolutely amazing scenery along there.. looked proper dramatic with the clo -
You could try a less popular way up.. think the Whatkin, Miners and Llanberis all start from more more accessible north side of Snowden. I walked it up the Rhyd Ddu path a few months back.. it's starts over on the west side though and apparently tends to be less busy. I hardly seen anyone on the way up.. mind, i was walking for 5:30 am though.. was spring bank week when kids were off so i expecting it to be busy later on in the day. I'd stick a few pics up but some reason i can't email them to myself anymore.. ffs. Yes.. get it done mate.. Route options here....

Cheers for that TOMO.. that's exactly what i was after. Yes, i don't mind driving at all.. when we're away it's all about getting out and about and seeing places. Just whacked it in Google maps and it's 1hr and half from the cottage to Gaitloch via Torridon.. so well within scope for a day out and long as i get the mrs and daughters up for and earlyish start!! Easier said than done that is!! Plenty more for me to get my teeth into there and a few day's planned out. We actually wanted to stay further up.. somewhere near Ullapool but when we booked in January most of the size cottages we we -
Up there soon... hindered with the outlaws tagging on. They've never been up there.. or to Scotland at all.. i'm feeling a bit of pressure to show them some West coast highlights.. they're mid 70's bless em.. so i know for a fact they'll never come back. I've got a day on Skye planned.. we had a week there a few years back. So.. I'm looking for recommendations..pubs.. beaches.. view points.. good roads to drive... anything really along the wast coast. Cheers in advance folks...? First week at the top blob... second week at the other.. near Oban..

Some absolutely ace rock pools along that north side including a huge one that doubles as a swimming pool!? Toilets a food shack there too. I've got some pics on the laptop.. wherever it is. It It's cracking spot but there's no shortage of them in Cornwall i suppose!!?

Travelling over night is definitely the way to go as D said. I use Google earth to find a decent lay-by.. usually just a mile or two from the campsite.. get some shut eye until we can get on the pitch. Loads along the A30 too.. some pretty big ones set back with a raised pavement type division separating it from the main road. Yes, f@@k that stuck in traffic on a scorching day bollocks mate...

Some good practice going on there mate!! And when you get the results like you have makes it all worth while!! Pegging a bag or tub over the seed is a cracking idea.. and a new one to me so thanks for that? Yes.. same here on the airation front.. I'm mothballing the fork and picking up a machine on hire. I fancy doing a core hollow tine job on the lawn then dressing with something sandy to aid drainage. Probably overseed aswell whilst I'm at it. I might do that it the autumn. Check this channel out.. https://youtu.be/58X6XqFp9t4 I have a strong urge to touch my pl -
Lawn care maintenance.. tips and advice!

Cracking lawn that mate.. Do you water it regularly? I've been there with the piss patches... got the t-shirt and all that! I found a good tip, when patching up piss stains, is to mix the seed with some soil in a bucket and wait until it's germinated before putting on it on the lawn. Gives you almost instant grass and you won't have the birds hammering the seed as they would do if you you put the seed directly onto the lawn. Just keep the soil in the bucket moist and give it a little shake around every day or two. I wait until the shoots are about 10 mm long before i -
