  3. If you're talking just the one run, mabye two, on average size fields, my wonga would be on the pure Greyhound, an experienced coursing dog mind. From what ive seen on meets out with the club at Swaffam, those pure greys are hell bent on getting that hare in their mouth! Combine that with their blinding speed and that tad of experience, would take some beating IMO, If your looking at bigger land, multipul runs... of course the Saluki, other end of scale, no prises for guessing whats comming.... well bred whippet, JMO,.... but what do i know....
  4. cracking pic mate.... Question.. has anyone ever spotted a hare having a nod? I very much doubt it, guessing they grab a few winks during the day layed up in deep cover, saying that we've all nearly stood on them whilst walking over plough etc., bursting from under your foot, totally unexpected.... so who knows???? would make a great photo... i doubt i'll ever manage it!
  5. cheers................ anyone else????? once told to rub an onion on it... ... anyone??
  6. i'll second that Wilf, take ages to heal properley. my bitches stoppers are a lot smaller and 'flusher' than they used ti be.... also my wallets a lot lighter than it used to be! and im not as flush as i used to be! Steveuk, is your dog working 100% normal without its stoppers? be interested to hear from you mate. My vet advised not to remove them as they protect the somthing or other in the dogs wrist... Interesting subject this.. my own bitch just about comming right from a knocked up stopper.. will be out this weekend with her, wrapped up to be on the safe side. Pain in

  9. Scouser 3038, is there any engineering firms near you? or even compnies that do gates/ wrought iron panels? probably the smaller firms would be better , just pop in, somtimes work gets a bit short for them this time of year, you would get what you want made to measure, would advise getting it galvanised aswell mate.. i made my own, on the sly..bit here, bit there.. sneeking in at 4 a.m good look mate..
  10. Very nice indeed mate.. me and a mate also spit roasted a pig the other night, in front of a gas fire.... she weighed in at about 14 1/2 stone, hope you enjoyed it as much as i did...
  11. got one of those long oil heaters in my kennel, pluss side of it cheap to run and doesnt throw any light, quite safe, downside, you dont get the instant heat and you cant direct it. You could rig it up to a thermostat, but i just use my judjement and flick the switch on (in the house) in advance. When i go down to them first thing in the morning and open the main door ( two sets of flaps on other door) there they are in the middle of winter, sat there in the deck chairs.... with bermuda shorts on.. pina colarda in paw.... nice and toasty... keep em fit, comfy and keep the weight
  12. Great pics SJM, Recognise that stone wall in the fith pic... its in scotland isnt it....
  13. Im with Blackdug on this one, just had £130 odd off me last week ( long storey ) swear when she sees me walk in with the lurcher, she almost breaks her neck running for the COSMOS brouchure..
  14. Heard on the local radio, tues a.m, about a sighting a in Calverton woods, Notts! suspecting its a wind up.. anyone heard anything?
  15. Really nice looking pups there mate..... I could really do with a handy little rabbit dog, been fancying this cross for a while.. any more pics of the black dog mark? Is it still looking looking smooth? Our lass is not co-operating.... looks like the nutrient levels in clumber lake are due for a sharp rise.... anyony knoew where i can get some concrete wellies???? size 5...
  16. Big will, the black dog is a German shorthaired pointer, shes undocked, so looks a bit strenge for the breed, and shes k.c reg..
  17. Always like to see folks puttting up photos of their dogs... whether it a proffesional job or just a quick snap with the mobile. like they say... it says lots more than a load of text. So heres a few snaps of my pair, out on my "Local patch" had three long ears off here so far this season, had to give her ten mins after this successful run... shes quite thick set and uses a lot of oxo, this one will go allday... thanks for looking..
  18. Nowt to do with foxes, but.... back in the days when the lurcher was , as they say, berd to look like a mongrel, so not to raise susspission by the passing keeper, excuse me... but i cant believe that upon seeing the collie 'coated' dog, the keepers never raised an eyebrow at the shady looking man on the other end of the lead!.... especially with his muddy boots... bulging game pocket within his jacket.. and a pocket full of snares!!! in the middle of nowhere.. J.M.O.... wish those keepers were arond today...
  19. forget all that fancy stuff mate... get yer sen down to the b&q, 20mm nylon flat webbing, i think they call it, 40 odd pence a metre, you need 2mtrs per slip lead, sew a loop in one end, just big enough to fit your hand through (so it can hang off your hand, say whilst holding lamp in otherhand when dogs runnin) seal the other end with a lighter, SORTED !!! for less than a quid.... get half a dozen made, if you lose one you wont lose any sleep over it, P.S, the lass on the till will never check how many metres you have there..
  20. thanks for the replys folks.. very helpfull, Speedlamper, like you say the welcome cottages is very good, have booked through several times, looking to book for the half term week in feb (sister is a teacher) and alot of the properties are already booked! 21. o.k, need some help please folks, i'm looking for a nice cottage / converted barn or whatever, ideally nestled in the heart of the lakes. does anyone know of or even own such a dwelling??? there must be some gems out there.... its just finding them! been trawing the net , not had a deal of joy so far. looking to book for 1 week in jan/feb, 6 adults and one munchkin ( daughter 2 1/2), and three medium size dogs, very well behaved, nice big living area would be nice.. we like to chill out with a few shandys after a day grafting on the fells, any ideas/ offers???

  23. knocked up stoppers, my worst nightmare! my bitch had a genuinely accidental course on a long ear over red flint/ stone on an old pit tip that was frozen solid! Made a right old mess of both stoppers, had to the vet out on a sunday morning, waste of time. Take them off, leave them on, stitch them.... she didnt a have bloody clue, to the tune of over £3oo over a month or so! A well respected vet did mention that the stoppers should be left on as they protect the somthing or other in the wrist. they did eventually heal, albeit a a bit deformed, and yes, she has had probs with th
