  3. could you explain them in a bit more detail for us you can tell genetics via punnet squares, every single trait (lenght of coat, colour, height, greying gene) occurs due to a specific gene in a chromosome. If the mother has a long coat for example and the father, it doesnt garauntee that the pup will. if we use a capital L for the gene that makes a long coat and a small l for the gene that makes a short coat then if the long coat or L is dominant and the small l is ressesive the mother could have the genotype of Ll as could the father Ll so they would both have the phenotype of b
  4. lovely looking dog that, hows it bred?
  5. Thanks fella. I like the look of the smooth coated dogs I was looking at collie/hound x bull/hound pups yesterday that will be ready in the next 3 weeks I might go ahead with a bitch from this litter yeh, that sounds good mate! never had a bull x but they add some power if your after foxes wonder about there temperament though......
  6. i would recommend either a collie/greyhound prefferebly 3rd cross or more because i find that first crosses can be too heavy set or bedlington/greyhound think about weather you want a rough coat or not. My collie/greyhound used to retrieve for me aswell as having a good nose which means she could follow up any wounded deer and help track them. My bedlington is a great worker who goes into bushes and flushes pheasant and partridge perfectly (great for rough shooting) she also retrieves shot birds including pigeon. both of these dogs were/are capable of all quarry. both of them were bitches, i h

  13. There not that challenging for a dog, much slower than hares. Ive heard of a lot of dogs been hurt by them by my old lass took at least 50 and only got a small cut out of all those times.
  14. Nice one there mate, looks like fun! just saying, muntjac is delicious! I wouldnt waste that on the ferrets!!!!
  15. I went a few times before the cold months and didn't have any luck. Anyone fish there? if so what for and what set up are you using? Thanks Weasel
  16. Thanks. I already have a beddy greyhound 1st cross and she covers all my hunting needs but was looking for a bigger dog just because I like them and as we got robbed the other week....again. I think its presence may do something to help. I would, however, be looking to run it, just for fun, not necessarily expecting any results..... cheers
  17. the breeding does not particularly matter (within reason) as long as the dog is game and has the pace/agility. Height, I`d say 24inch is perf though others may dispute that. I would say that 1 or 2 seasons is not good, at least 4 seasons preferably more and as the others say it shouldn't be just for hares. Stamina is pretty key but that comes the more the dog runs, persistence in that it wont give up till its knackered or lost it. Also what is key is intelligence, my bitch had an uncanny way of turning before the hare did to cut it off.
  18. Just looking into getting a big dog and not sure what i want, something with a coat and some height. Wanting to know if you work Deerhounds or other alternatives. thanks Weasel
