  1. Ibruprofen is poisonous for dogs, my mates dog chewed on a tube of it and ended up on a drip for 2 days and she'd barely had any of it. My Jack Russell sometimes gets a stiff shoulder, I think it's from going from 0-60 when chasing stuff after being asleep for a while. He'll probably be fine in the morning
  2. I seen this also, think it'll proabbaly go back to it in a future episode to let you know what happened. I genuinely think it will be rehomed to be fair, but that's just my opinion. Some of the sights on that show are horrific, how people can let dogs get into the state they're in or purposely get them into such bad condition is beyond me.
  3. Had mine jump into a wet cow pat once, straight on his back in it and was caked in the stuff, he then started to lick it off himself. My other terrier loves fox piss and shit, the piss is worse as you don't see it, just smell it when he's sat next to you.
  4. And like has been said, it's then because of this that people turn to buying pups which is what the RSPCA want to discourage, therefore increasing the demand for puppies and the cycle begins all over again.
  5. Problem with the RSPCA is they only rehome to 'ideal famillies' where the dog will NEVER be left on its' own, where they have a huge house and a huge garden. Reality is though there are many famillies out there who would love to rehome a dog, who would give that dog all the love in the world yet because they work and the dog may be left at home for part of the day then they get turned down, instead the dog will sit in a kennel all day waiting to be taken out for a poxy 20 minute run in a field, how's that right?
  6. Owning a dog costs money though, food and vet bills etc so they would be better off without the dog in the first place. If the bitch was to struggle during giving birth they wouldn't have the funds to pay a vet to sort it out, how's that fair on the dog?
  7. To be fair, alot of the people on that show bred dogs for the wrong reasons so I can see why they focus their campaign on neuturing. There was a chap with a British Bull dog on the one I saw and the vet recommended he didn't breed off it due to it's eyes being extremely saggy and it having a skin condition but he was determined to so he could make money. I personally would only breed a dog if I wanted a pup and I know 99% of the people on here are the same, shame others don't see it like that
  8. I used to run a terrier 3-5 miles (depending on how tired I was) a few times a week and he'd be stopping to sniff and then sprinting back ahead of me, stopping again and then catching me up again and would do this throughout the run. He would be knackered by the end but as soon as he got home he'd be bouncing round the house, too much energy!
  9. Cracking looking pup and Zak is a good name for him, either that or I reckon he looks like he could be a Ronnie!
  10. As I still live at home I haven't yet owned a working dog but will be something that I will look to do when I move out in the next year or so, hence the reason I haven't contributed to the topic myself.
  11. As the title says, what was your first working dog? Just write a little piece about it, how old you were etc... will be quite interesting to see peoples responses and experiences with their first dog.
  12. No worries, let us know how it goes
  13. Probably a fatty lump but best to get it to the vet asap to get it checked that it isn't anything malicious like cancer etc. They'll just stick a swob needle type thing into it and analyse the cells to let you know what it is. Hope it is just a fatty lump, all the best.
  14. Sorry for your loss! Got a Russell that's 11 this year, would love him to make the age yours did, they're tough as old boots.
  15. Get some more meals in it, I'd be feeding 3 x a day if possible, (i.e you're not at work all day) and if not 2 bigger meals, one in the morning and one in the evening. A tin of sardines a couple of times a week will do the world of good, about 70p in Aldi!
  16. How has she got on with the lurchers up until now? If the other dog came on your property then I'm not surprised she went for it. I wouldn't get rid based on one incident and will probably get some stick off people who agree with you for saying that...
  17. Again, spaying at under six months old is becoming increasingly more common within the UK, although there are a range of problems that can potentially be caused by spaying your bitch while she is very young. As with male dogs, female dogs need to produce the T3 and T4 growth hormones that begin production alongside of impending sexual maturity, as well as oestrogen for normal development and hormone regulation. A bitch that is spayed while too young will not have had the opportunity to have begun producing oestrogen and other essential hormones, which can lead to a range of problems in later l
  18. Give the company a ring and see what they say, just say you felt it was a little suspicious.
  19. Looks like a Collie x to me, with what I don't know!
  20. Very good point that fella, although you'd think someone may have reported it by now. I'd be disappointed if I wasn't reported missing after a few days!
  21. http://www.westernmorningnews.co.uk/Dog-summit-England-s-highest-mountain/story-26553818-detail/story.html Just a heads up to anyone that may know his owner, he's a nice looking dog.
  22. That's a great little piece that you have written there, RIP Buck.
  23. Manchester pets and aquatics centre near the Apollo, has all sorts of reptiles and stuff needed for reptiles in there so should do the trick for some bulbs.
  24. Bit more info is probably required, where you got her from, why she's too much for you and if she's free or if you're looking for a price in order to ensure she doesn't go to someone who will then sell her on.
  25. My mums just got back from the Lakes and she doesn't walk where others are due to the Jack Russell not liking other dogs, plenty of places to walk there where you won't see many other dog walkers. Think she got advice from the tourism place and they'd point out walks/routes to take .
