How Long To Stay Loaded With A Springer?
RemyBolt replied to RemyBolt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Brilliant feedback everyone. I'm loving my springer and I do agree that for commercial reasons, a PCP would be a much wiser option, no doubt. But I'm only doing pest control for a few friends on their farms, and working on my fieldcraft as much as possible. So the whole springer, stalking, style bag is so appealing! Really appreciate everyone taking the time to answer this one, and it's great to get a lot of first hand experience too. Thank you everyone. -
Sorry mate. It's just another one for ratting (my favourite). Only saw a few around there.

I think, if a member of the UK NRA or a member of BASC reports him, then it shows how responsible they are being as members, and would provide a good case for how the community, as a whole, is responsible.
-
Don't worry mate, I will keep everyone informed.

They said I'll be hearing back early next week about this.

Has anyone been on one of these? I'm looking to get a .223 straight off the bat with my FAC, and the firearms officer said I'd have to do a Centrefire Course. Been looking around and can't find anything on them. No prices or locations that actually do them. I live in the south of Somerset close to the Devon border, so anything around this area would be ideal! Thanks in advance everyone.

When you say long, what's your limit that you'll leave them cocked for? -
Help With Pellets
RemyBolt replied to leeroydingel's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
In general I am a huge Crosman pellet fan (I love Accu Pell's for my .177's and .22's). But my go-to pellet will depend on what I'm shooting for and over what ranges. I love the .22 pest control by Bisley, but I use that for shorter ranges on rats. For longer shots they are not as accurate, but in a close up role, they provide good clean kills, in my experience. However, if I'm looking at longer ranges, e.g. over 10 meters, I go domed. Usually Accu Pell. I hope that helps. I use Accu Pell in my Gamo .177, but I've heard great stuff about the Gamo Match Grade pellets. -
Well, word has gotten out from one farm to another about my low cost (free) rat removal service haha. This is why I've sorted insurance out. The farmer whose land I normally shoot on has a friend whose farm needs some work. So, I'm going down there with him on Saturday to meet his friend and get a tour around. Will get permission forms signed and sorted. I'll check if he needs any help with rabbits, woodies, and the alike, while I'm at it. So, Saturday morning will be early set up for woodies and rabbits, finishing around lunch time, then a night session of ratting! Well excited.

It might be that you were looking at professional insurance. Ie one that is still valid if you charge the owner for your shooting. That would make sense. I was popping in "Air rifle hunting insurance" and the few places I contacted all gave around the same quotes, so that would explain that.

Sure Fire Way To Bag Plenty Of Crows?
RemyBolt replied to andrew macmillan's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
I'm with MIK, It was very clearly meant as good quality photos in the bag! Barky, let me know when you upgrade from that old Polaroid camera of yours. Give yourself to the dark side...go digital. Back at the original post.... Yesterday I managed to get 12-15 crows circling over a handful of decoys in about 2-3 minutes, while on my lunch break. I had 4 woody deeks and 1 crow deek about 5 meters from the 4 woodies in the office garden. As soon as I was back in the office, loads of crows were circling overhead. I was just trying out different patterns, and if I had a shotgun with -
I've contacted BASC for a definite answer on 2 different issues. This is obviously one of them.

How Long To Stay Loaded With A Springer?

As a general rule, I think it only polite that when I start something, I make sure I shoot my load ;-) haha -
Good call. Lucky i shoot on private land away from sight. If im seen then the " eyes " are trespassing and should not be there ! But who knows in the future a quick call to 101 might save a load of hassle I remember a story, either from this forum or from a mate, of a guy out shooting, and the armed response came at him. He had waved at a guy walking by the farm, whom had waves at him first. Our shooter then got on with his bunny bashing. When the armed response turned up he was shocked. Turns out the guy he had waved at was trespassing and had called the police! The irony of the wh

At my current permissions, I'm miles from a public path and everyone on the farm knows me. So that's cool. As I expand the number of permissions, I may be calling ahead. The police have better things to do than hassle me and scare of my pigeons. Plus if you're applying for a FAC or SGC, it'll show you're responsable by calling in. Can only work in your favour.

Purchased!

Wow! I was getting quotes around the £350 mark! Cheers guys.

Hello Everyone Just a quick question. Who do you use for insurance on your permissions? I do a lot of ratting, so spend a lot of time inside with the possibility of a pellet rebound/bounce always being there. So the thought of insurance, because my friend whose farm I shoot on is pimping me out to other farmers, is high on my mind. Any suggestions or recommendations?

I love using my Gamo. It's really brought me over to liking springers. For the price, I'm pleased with the performance. After at least a year's use, I'll be able to give a better review, but initial impression is positive.

How Long To Stay Loaded With A Springer?
RemyBolt replied to RemyBolt's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Cheers lads. I'm looking at doing more 'winged quarry' work, so was wondering about the hassle of cocking the rifle and getting caught out by a pigeon or something like that. So I'd probably be okay to load up, sit and wait, then pop when I'm ready? That's a relief. -
Nice one! I'll be buying some steel pellets for Duck Season!
-
Are these still available?

I just popped out 4 woody shell decoys and 1 crow decoy in the office garden (we have a brilliant location for shooting...just need to convince the boss) and within 2 minutes I had 7 crows flying in, circling, and the alike. How come they're not landing? Will it take time for them to get used to the decoys, or what?
-
Nice one. Thank you. There's a pond next to the chicken farm I do pest control on. I asked the farmer about the duck. He said the numbers might be a little high, so I could take a couple out for him, providing he got one for the pot. Grub's up!

I've heard loads of things on this subject, so would like some more experienced shooter opinions. How long would you be happy to have a springer locked and loaded, ready to fire, without shooting? I've heard people say an hour, others say a minute, and loads more between and further apart. What's your experience on how long you can leave a springer cocked and loaded for, without damaging the gun or mechanism?
