A Bullet Proof Vest Could Stop An Arrow Couldn't It ?
RemyBolt replied to ovinovin7's topic in Hunting Boots & Clothing
Kevlar is not stab proof. It is slash proof. How do you think it's cut? You can cut Kevlar with a pair of scissors. You cannot SLASH the material, but you can cut it. As for how armour can stop 5.56 and 7.62, even stopping 50cal's....it all depends on what kind and where you're hit. Level I or Level II will stop 9mm pistol rounds and .22lr's. Going up to Level III you'd be hoping to stop 5.56's. Transition to Level IV and you'd expect it to stop a 7.26. If you're looking at stopping a 50cal....wait, aren't they designed to take out light armoured vehicles? So you're going t -
Mechanix gloves are so highly recommended over in the US, even the navy seals use them. However, if you're using an air rifle, you'll probably not need them to take the recoil or anything like that. Sit the stock tighter into your shoulder to remove more recoil. To be totally fair, I'm with Pianoman in that if I'm hunting outdoors (as opposed to in a barn ratting) I will use something to cover my skin tones. But I'd not go with anything shiney...for obvious reasons. Huge fan of the textured gloves made by Jack Pyke and Deer Hunter. Not the highest quality, but there's something novel a

Firearms License Question
RemyBolt replied to hunter bull X's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I might be getting them mixed up. Time for another authority figure to be bombarded with email questions haha -
Congrats. Same question as Doie1, how long did it take to come through?

Firearms License Question
RemyBolt replied to hunter bull X's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I have a habit of contacting authority figures and asking them obscene amounts of questions. The last one I spoke to said I'd need to complete a centrefire course if I wanted a .223 or more on my cert for my first application. Odds are, the same will be for your friend. Had a mate recommend putting land with no less than 22 acres. So if it's just a single field, I'd probably not be expecting much. Also, don't forget that if you want a silencer/moderator (here in the UK it should never be called a silencer on paperwork) you have to declare that on the application. If you are given p -

Providing you don't use lead shot for the ducks. But I am getting my certs finished off. -
Until we see pictures PIL, we can but assume he simply has a divider.

Nice! Open converyors!?!? JEALOUS!!! The ones down my permission are enclosed. I have to look down the conveyor to get at the rats! A couple of divers there, straight off the belt. The one that went behind the cavity....hate them! I'm having to be more patient with them and let them come closer. Brilliant shooting though.

Yesterday I managed to get a picture of 7 crows on the office lawn. Just need to be able to get them to land! I only had 1 crow decoy on the ground. When I had them swarming, I had a load of pigeon decoys out too.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I don't think a shelf is a new invention. The fact that it already has a name could well be testement to that. Also I'm pretty sure nailing a bit of wood into another bit of wood has already been thought of. Well, I'm excited to see the pictures. Be honest, have you just put a piece of wood vertically, seperating one half of the cabinet from the other and assumed it was called a shelf? I think it's actually just called a divider or partician. Are you even allowed to play with sharp objects? haha

Sounds a little high-end for my liking. WAY TOO MUCH hard work has gone into that construction!
-
On a more serious note, If you just get 4 pieces of sturdy dowling about 2cmx2cm and just below half the height of the inside of the cabinet. Then cut a piece of ply to the dimentions of the inside of the cabinet, so it would fit like a shelf. Simply drill and screw the 4 corners of the ply with a piece of doweling, so it looks like a small table. Then sit this inside your cabinet...and you're happy.

You didn't really build a shelf did you? You just found a metal box, didn't you? Haha

How Can You Protect Your Air Rifle When Out In The Field?
RemyBolt replied to Robbo1234's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Jack Pyke do a load of neoprene covers. I currently have a scope cover, stock cover, and a barrel cover. But I have a thick barrel (Gamo Varmint Stalker). On a thinner barrel it really wouldn't work. -

That's pretty much what they said, obviously providing the other criteria for the General License are fulfilled, e.g. not practical to use another method, all other methods/options for control have been exhausted, etc. -

A small metal box on it's side, with the top (open hole of the box) facing the open section of the cabinet, measuring the same size as half the cabinet. That'll sit snugly, while also providing a platform/shelf style section. _____________________ | | | | | | | | |==================== | || || || || || || ||__

Wow, now this caught me unexpectedly. I got a call today from BASC answering a couple of my typical 'awkward questions'. My 2 questions were: 1. Are you allowed to use bait to hunt (upon the remit of vermin control) Wood Pigeons? 2. Are you allowed to hunt ducks with an air rifle? I can truly say the answers were very helpful. So, to break down a 30minute conversation with a very helpful and tolerant individual, the answers are as follows... 1. Providing you are not luring the creature into an area to shoot them, and providing all the other remits of the General License are m

Welcome to the forum. Good to have you here. -
You should check chicken farms for ratting. I was taught, if you have a chicken farm, you have rats. It really is that simple. They probably won't pay you for it (which is good, for insurance reasons). Get some fliers made up, get some permission slips printed off to be signed. Print out a copy of the General License. Get some insurance (only recently sorted this myself), and you're good to go. But make sure you're shooting accurately and that you know what's behind your target. The last thing you want is to pop a rat and have the pellet punch through it's head and smash a piece of machine

A guy from where I used to live (we'll call him Dave...because that's his name haha), once got a call from the police saying there was a report of a guy with a gun on the farm where he was shooting. So Dave called the farmer to check if anyone else was shooting on his farm. The farmer said it was only Dave and that he'd said the same thing to the police when they called him. So Dave kept his eyes out for this other shooter. Turns out it was probably just someone reporting Dave in the first place haha. If you build up the relationship, I'm sure there won't be many issues like this occurring
