Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Please Help! Big Scope Issue!
RemyBolt replied to RemyBolt's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
The Zero on 24x will still be on zero if it's 10-12x mag. It just means that I'm still perfectly zeroed for anything between 10x and 24x too. So if it's a very tight shot, and I need better magnification, I will increase the mag as required. -
Well, there goes another weekend of unsuccessful rabbiting, finished before I even had a chance to scare them off!

That is a little too Black and White, there are plenty of ways a bipod etc can be used successfully with a springer, my lad mastered it with his Gamo and was deadly accurate! Same as what I'm using. I have a little Gamo springer and am really enjoying it. I'm changing my new (and recently damaged) scope over from my Ultra to the Gamo. I love my Ultra, but the springer is just so much more fun. Is his a break action Gamo? If so, what kind and what bipod is he using?

Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Please Help! Big Scope Issue!
RemyBolt replied to RemyBolt's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
I've reset the scope and put the brackets further apart. If this doesn't work, I'll try and sort the rail. If that's not working, I'll tell the wife to let me have more spending money! She takes my whole paycheque and gives me a little to spend (I have an awful shopping habit!) and a new scope would be at least half my month's spending allowance. But she did say she would get me a new scope for my Birthday, if I wanted. By then I should have my SGC and FAC sorted though. I always zero at the highest magnification, but I don't shoot at 24X mag. That would be ridiculous! I only use -

I'm just going to have to sit back and leave it until tomorrow, then see how it is I guess. Mounts are on fine, but I've put them further apart now, so it'll be hard to compare previous right drift. On an Ultra, but I am not a massive fan, to be fair, and genuinely prefer using my cheap Gamo Springer (I shoot with that a lot more because of the fun, weird hu?) For zero, I have it on 24x mag. Parallax to the distance on the wheel. Focus is spot on. I basically followed the instructions in the booklet haha. If the zero is okay, I'll probably change the mounting from Ultra to -

Oh don't do that mate. It's an MTC Viper 6-24x52. I got it at a discount, but hell, it'll be the best part of a month's paycheque to replace! Proper panicking! -
Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Please Help! Big Scope Issue!
RemyBolt replied to RemyBolt's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
The issue I was trying to sort, it was constantly shooting right, even with full scope adjustment to get it to zero. So a small shim was added to the side to counter the right drift. However, it wasn't enough. I was going to try posting on here to ask about the right drift, but thought I'd add a little more to shim. When opening the brackets for the scope, I realised I'd dented the metal on the scope body. -

I was in the middle of zeroing it. So I don't really know, and now it's too dark to check. -
Looking forward to those photos being uploaded soon mate.

What about a cushioned set of sticks? I was thinking of having walking poles and using a small suspended brace/soft cable, to rest the barrel on. Would that work?

Shroom, look after yourself out there mate. We don't want it going like London a few years ago!

Any smart phone. Just go on the TinyPics website. Super easy to use and provides a link to post the pic on forums.

You could try to reintroduce them to a woodie nest. But some birds will reject their young if the smell of human is on them. Also, if introduced to the wrong nest, they could be rejected from there too. Are they a pest? No. Can you raise them? Yes. Should you be raising them? Only if you're capable of doing so. Is there a moral dilema as a hunter, with raising animals that could potentially be pests? No. They're a living animal and all hunters are not just pest controllers, but also conversationists. I'd be doing the same thing protecting them mate.

They're not pest birds. If they're flying around, enjoying the woods, pecking a little bread at the park, and the occassional garden visit, they are not pests. Until they start smashing up the farmer's fields, then they're wild birds and are protected under the Wildlife Act. Since the rules for the General License would also apply to any pest 'species' since they are not behaving in such a manner as a pest animal, they CANNOT BE DISPATCHED. Unfortunately mate, you now have 2 awesome cute little pets. If you're looking to offload them to someone else, I'd be happy to pop over and p

If I was closer in, I'd be cool to sell some on. At the moment I just drop them off at the farmers and give a few to friends that are on the drive home. I ask people what they want, and if it's available, I let them know. If you pop down your local shooting store, they'll probably be okay to put you in touch with a few people that might be able to help. Even some pest controllers might be cool with it.

Yeah! I know what you mean. HATE THAT!!! It's like they're waiting for it to come at them! Sly little buggers! Makes me wish I was shooting too high when I do that. Whenever my scope is perfectly zeroed for the distance, I just wish I had knocked it and was shooting with masses of hold-under! haha

I'm looking at slightly changing up my shooting style and am either going to go for a bipod or shooting sticks. The majority of my shots are taken in the woods or by trees, so are either rested against a tree or are from a seated position. Because of the main location for the rabbits on my main permission, I'm looking at doing more prone shooting. So am considering a bipod or sticks. I'm using a springer, and shots will be open field, so no support. However, grass can be pretty long at times, so adjustability would be good too. What would you recommend I go for?

Looking For Permission In Petworth Or Surrounding
RemyBolt replied to Tom s400's topic in General Airgun Discussion
There's a post on here by a kick ass author (me) about how to get permissions. Although it might seem a good idea to ask on the forum, check Walshie's response in the below thread. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/322642-how-to-get-permissions/ I do think it's worth asking for permissions, but I wouldn't be expecting too much to come from it. Checking on Google maps, you're surrounded by permissions waiting for your rifle to help them out. Aside from the post about how to get permissions, I'm sorry that I can't really help. -
Anything that shoots consistant, e.g. can group shots, and can hit hard at the ranges you're looking to hunt at.

HAVALON PIRANTA!!!! http://www.havalon.com/ Imagine a surgical scalpal on steroids! Replacement blades (so no sharpening needed), 100% sterile (blades are kept individually in sealed packaging), bright orange so easy to find! Super easy to clean! Strong enough to cut through rhino hide...not a common task in the UK though haha. If you get one, you'll love it! One word of warning, they really are unbelievably sharp! I sliced off a couple of mm's off my index finger and didn't even realise until my finger was wet with blood. Be really careful with these beasts!

I was going to do a "Permission Etiquette" post, for when you're on someone else's land. Mention things like trying to steal a permission, etc.

Personal favourite: Marzipan! I can eat it until I vomit. After I vomit, empty stomach, so can start again...a la Roman Stylee. Favourite to cook: I make an awesome salad haha. In all seriousness, I LOVE to bake! Oh dear, I sound like someone from High School Musical haha. But I do love to make cakes! I have a brilliant chocolate flapjack with Chia Seeds, protein powder, and so much golden syrup that you'll go into a coma! Having a vegetarian wife, I have to be careful what I can cook in the kitchen. The smell of meat makes her want to spew up. Thank God for the BBQ!!!

Thanks Walshie.

How many doors have you knocked so far to find a permission mate?
