Sesquipedalian is using a word of many syllables when a shorter word would suffice. Also recognised (and as used in this occasion) as being overly worded. like swallowing a diconiary ya mean. Almost. More like vomiting one up and pretending it's a sentence.

Some beautiful words there Walshie! Love it. I love the spoken word and written work. In the office we play a game where someone finds a long word and we have to work out what it means. Brilliant for extending the vocabulary.

Thanks Birdsallpl, I think.... I admit I am longwinded, fair response.

I would keep my little Ratting set-up. It's only a RatCatcher (Crosman 2250) but I have been using it for years, and the lower poundage means a stray shot won't do much damage to the building, and there's a low chance or ricochets. Which is preferable for the proximity that I am usually ratting at.

So what kind of situations would a FAC airifle be preferable over a normal sub 12, but where a 22lr wouldn't be suitable?
-
Oh I'm sorry. Did you miss one of those? I'm generally posting about my failings with rabbits at the moment. Only get to go out shooting Saturday morning, sometimes a Friday morning, because my trouser wearing wife is just pulling out of a major depression that's been going on around a year. I am quite sesquipedalian in my posts (and in daily conversation), and I can be seen as patronising, but those that know me recognise and appreciate the tone everything is said in. I guess that's a problem with forums, you can't always make your vocal tone evident. I'm not put off posting.

what do you mean you can only get single shot FAC? I was asking if the FAC Air Rifles were only available as Single Shot. But JS's post about the Wolverine being 10 shot has answered that question.
-
I'm like Magwitch, never thought about FAC airifles before. The more I look at the FAC air rifles, the more I'm interested in getting one. I'm not a fan of PCP though. It's pretty safe to assume that even the PCP ones are single shot guns?

Thanks Thursodog + Mattybugeye. Any shot I take needs to be a good kill. If it's not humane, I'm not going to bother. Cheers guys.

Glad my desire to improve and recognition that so many out there and on here are better outdoorsmen than me, entertains you. I don't listen to music, so the Elton John reference was lost on me. I'm sure it was very witty though. That's fair comment. I can see why you'd think that. With shooting rabbits with an airifle, I'm first to admit my inexperience. But asking if anyone wants to teach someone, and asking for land, is very different. One is recognition of the other person's experience and skill, and a desire to progress. The other is just asking for land, and not the skill set

You're right Johnny. 10 points. For another 10 points, please note the difference between tagging along, offering to become someone's student to learn, and...... asking for land to shoot on. Wow, that was an easy 10 point hu? In 6 months I picked up 6 permissions. I've started with rabbits with an airifle instead of just ratting. I have asked to tag along to learn those other skills and to watch someone shoot. Could you please point out where I asked for land or to shoot, or even where I asked if I could take my gun? I would love to spend 1 hour learning from a good hunter, jus

I try to help so redirect them.

Welcome to the forum.

You know I do. The annoyance is that even though the info is there, theres loads of people still asking for permissions without actually trying. That's what annoys me.
-
I don't think I am amazing or anything like that. But I didn't find any info to help people get permissions, so I added my sales experience and tried to help. Instead of having a go at me, why don't you try to help newer members get permissions? Maybe recommend a few places to look at, suggest the best places to ask, help with an advertising campaign, or take them out with you? Oddly, I didn't see any of that. Before you criticise me for trying to help, check the number of posts you've made to help newer members get permissions.

It's like acoustic honey for your ears haha. I've had loads of help improving my shooting, gear, decoying, legals, insurance, and the alike. So putting all the stuff about permissions is just handing back knowledge I've gained.

Joe777, I think you totally missed, or I failed to properly explain, this post. I'll answer and assess each question. I hope these answers better frame the questions and the kind of internal self assessment I was hoping people would consider.

I'm just going to point a few things out quickly. 1. I've made posts to help people get permissions. 2. I've pointed out pitfalls for what a person could be doing wrong. 3. I've shown that persistence pays off. 4. I've offered help for how to ask for permissions. 5. I've provided, in this post too, the starting line for how to hunt legally. 6. I've created a thread about how not to ask, but inside of it how to ask for help with permission. 7. I've pointed out the locations of information they need to follow and know, to help keep country sports alive. Please do

Beat me to it. I was going to say riflemags.co.uk too. I'm a massive sportsman gun centre fan, but only because it's my local. Not the cheapest, and I've not seen many CZ's in there either.

Woooah there a second. I have taken the farmer's son out with me a few times, ratting. I lined up his first rat kill and talked him through it. I even sold him my Ultra (technically I sold it to his father for his son's use...I'm 100% legal). I have encouraged many kids to shoot, and a few of the neighbour's kids regularly pop round and shoot in my garden under my supervision. The wife knows that when we have a child, they'll be getting an airifle and learning to stalk, to shoot , to gut, to skin, to butcher, and cook, ASAP. They will also know respect for what others have worked for.

My mistake, I said 1600 acres. It was 9000 acres of land, after 5 years of trying!!! http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/318506-just-got-my-first-permission-after-5-years-of-trying/ If that doesn't inspire you to get out and knock doors, then I promise you this: You'll never get a permission.

I get where you're coming from, but if a stray pellet does a mischief, and they're not insured, they could be looking at £10'000 or more in expenditure. I think getting them insured is probably the first thing they should consider! As soon as I was asked to shoot on a farm that wasn't my best mate's farm, the first thing I did was ask about insurance! Also, with things like the GL and Wildlife Act, that should be bombarded. Imagine a member coming on and saying "I bagged me 3 blackbirds, a robin, and 5 starlings." Shortly followed by "You're banned for breaking the law, and giving all hunt
