  1. Thanks all. Should have said, I can recognise mixy as seen a fair few over the years, that's why I asked him to keep one. I'll check it out when I see it. Reason I asked the question is that I've never come across mixy in the area. Thanks for the suggestions I'll look that up. Happy hunting all.
  2. Hi All. I don't post much but I wonder if you can help. My local permission text me today and said few rabbits found dead but not sure if it's mixy. I've asked him to keep one so I can have a look. If its not.....anyone have any ideas. Permission in Essex farmland near a salt water tidal river no sign of foxes or dogs. Not sure if that helps but its a bit of background.
  3. I have the newer bolt type bsa ultra (has no front charging button etc) and although I've only just got it bedded in with about 400 shots through the barrel, its performing well for me. Took 3 clean head shots on some bunnies last week 10m, 30m and 50m roughly. Super light, easy to shoulder and comfy. Short barrel makes it a little noisy without a moderator, I have a SAK mod on it which makes it silent at 20m in the open. Not used the aa s400 just thought you'd like my take on the newer ultra single shot.
  4. Thanks for this, good chart. I've heard BSA's prefer a wider skirt would anybody happen to know if there is a chart including exact width of skirt etc
  5. Cheers Keith. I prefer mornings too. Might make my way over there in a few weeks when I have some time off.
  6. Brilliant write up...!!! Just wish it would stop raining, there's a local golf course i want to get down to and have a walkabout with the Groundsman....but in this weather i don't fancy it too much.
  7. I was looking at a few (below is one example) but i was also considering using my maglight and wondered if buying a universal mount for a fiver would be any good. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ultrafire-Cree-Q5-green-beam-scope-mount-lamping-kit-hunting-gun-rifle-light-/300910440581 I have a minimag LED and the different power and flash settings which is a great torch.....i was thinking the 25% non focus beam might pick up the eyes and then i can turn it onto full and focus the beam in to concentrate on the chosen set of eyes. Not sure how practicle it will be in the field though. You have
  8. Already getting good feedback from a few calls i put in today. I'll hopefully be meeting some grounds keepers next week. No rabbit hunting likely, but problems with crows, magpies etc which is a start. Hopefully it'll lead onto better hunting ground from there. They seemed to want to know where i am currently shooting and not having anything to really say seemed to kill the odd conversation, so if i start with one course just on Corvids etc it might help me onto more rabbit infested land. Thanks for the tips guys.
  9. Cheers for the welcome......i think i'm getting hooked to this site...!!! I've even been reading Archived posts in the evenings.
  10. Cheers Syubby, Bunnyman. Good advice, didn't think of changing the land i approach was just trying different approaches. Lots of stables round here and plenty of garden centres......I'll try there first. I spoke to Pete the other day and he seemed like a really nice guy and very welcoming, i might still consider it as he allows youngsters and my son wants to tag along and get into it..... and with no annual membership it might still be worth it. Cheers
  11. Hi all I was just looking for some advice before I go down and sign up. What's the land like for rabbit and wood pigeon. Been struggling to find a permission locally as most of the land near me either has somebody on it or its all grazing land owned by the travellers and if im going to have to drive further afield I might aswell consider Pete's. Let me know if you gone on the vermin land and also if they've become lamp shy because of over lamping.
  12. Hi all, I know it's early days, but have you got any figures yet...?? Would be really interested to find out how thnigs faired.
  13. Hi Twymanc - you've mentioned above that you attached the torch to the scope but didn't say how....have you used the specially made mount from ultrafire....if so did it fit well as it says on the ebay one i've found "universal" which doesn't always inspire confidence to me.
  14. Thank JJM and Rabbit Catcher 1 - bit new to all this, never had these sites as a kid, wish they had, would have made the trial and error stages much shorter. Spent about 3 hours reading different posts from various people yesterday and learnt a lot already. You seem to get more honesty here than in any shop as there's no sale to be made... equipment info is great.
  15. New Air Rifle owner (after a long break). Had one as a kid and really missed the bunnies in the pot. Just got my first PCP and looking to find myself a good local range and local permission. I'll go knocking on doors soon as...wish me luck. Hopefully I'll get some good hunting and equipment tips on this site.
  16. Hi all I hope you dont mind me hijacking your conversation but its sort of relevant. I myself am looking to start solo lamping and was wondering if switching between my red or green IR on my site would give me a better clarity of crosshair for either the same colour or opposite colour lamp/torch.... i.e. red torch red iR or red torch green IR. Hope one of you can shed some light on it....no punn intended.
