  1. Just look on the ferreting section; for about a month people have been knocking it on the head cos they are coming across young.
  2. I have an old 3 shot bolt action .410; and recently I've been getting stoppages where the fired cartridge fails to extract but is cleared by cycling again and ejecting the spent cartridge. However going out today I found that the cartridge would not be pulled out by the bolt as it would 'pull' free from the extractor and remain in the chamber. Inspection of the cartridges shows they've split on the brass. So my question is this is the problem: A) dodgy cartridges the chamber wearing over time and being slightly too large now causing the brass to expand more than it should 'blocki
  3. I use spun poly nets by AndyKelly I feed James Wellbeloved with no dramas a big handful morning and night.... Unless there is still food in the bowl.
  4. I only feed mine James Wellbeloved ferret complete and make sure they have loads of water. When ferreting; I gut the rabbits and chuck them the heart and lungs; occasionally the liver and kidneys too (the wife uses them for cooking with) A lot of the blokes here only really feed em rabbits and maybe chicken mince too. The garden project is going ok; wouldn't leave them unattended in it, but they were diving under the fence next door.... So I've bought plastic mesh and stakes and I'm working my way round the garden, it's £11 for 5m from B&Q Ruggers I've got three books for sale
  5. I have that book it's a good 'un lot of info on rabbits too... I'm currently at B&Q working out how to 'ferret proof 75% of my garden for the summer....
  6. A veritable ferret shanty town! Looks good, how easy is it to clean?
  7. Sounds like a tick bomb; really tiny ticks? I posted a thread recently with literally hundreds of tiny ticks over. I use fipronil (frontline) every month and ivermectin 2 weeks later every month
  8. Any more than none is good.
  9. Leave the rabbits in the summer and go after pigeons & squirrels for the pot... The cage looks small IMHO; if you made it you'll be able to make it bigger... I'm going to convert a 6x4 shed into a multi level ferret court to give you an idea.. Tubes look fine...
  10. I'm pretty sure a well bred ferret would be better than an F1 Polecat/Ferret... More handleable and more trusting and just as effective
  11. Hadn't you heard, the Russians have got nuclear weapons?........mind you, they have only had them 60 odd years so I suppose the news may not have got round yet ! Lol lol Thank goodness we didn't have a nuclear arms race for 60 years.... Oh wait.
  12. The R in a month is just a rule of thumb; as you have probably seen we've not had a cold winter it's just been an eternal autumn and a wet one; consequently; Jill's are coming into season early and rabbits are breeding early too... You never said about the snares if you handle the snare too much it's covered in your scent and less likely to be successfull; some say wafting it over woodsmoke does the job but I don't know that much about snaring In terms of your hob; he's quite young; I have just got back into ferreting after a 10 year gap so both my ferrets are young and inexperienced.
  13. Mate you've posted a lot all over the place can I suggest you are trying to run before you can walk. Focus on one thing at a time and branch out. If you don't have a marking dog; do you know what to look for in a warren for 'tips' it might be occupied? As for snares are you handling the fook out the snare and placing it at the wrong point in the rabbits gate on the rabbits path... Are you even setting them on a rabbit run? I don't know anything about long nets and hunting with running dogs so can't help you with long nets or the dog stuff. But tbh I think you either need to get
  14. Keep checking them; when they look swollen get them Jill jabbed. (There are other things you can do, but if you know nothing about ferrets keep it simple); if they don't mate/get jabbed they can develop all sorts of problems and ultimately die. They should be due in season roughly next month; but some are coming in sooner...
  15. That it is. But 20 does my nut in. It's not quite a 12 and too much when you want a .410... I need a .410 fully moderated; folder, because discretion is the better part of valour at times.
  16. I think I'll settle down to watch this: http://youtu.be/5AUYCnzmDJY Just to remind myself how bad it could get again. Then I'll pop down to the Winchester, have a pint and wait for this to all blow over...
  17. I'm after a Yildiz TK36 .410; fully moderated. (Hushpower) May consider a folding 12; again fully moderated (eg pederetti Hushpower) Cosmetic exterior not to fussed but must be mechanically sound and have a good bore. The key things I'm looking for is 1) Folding 2) Fully moderated (not 9" end can) 3) .410 preference but may consider 12. Not 20.
