My saluki bull grey bitch plays very rough with all dogs, sometimes it can look quite disturbing particularly smaller dogs when she will just course them and pin them by the throat, but she has never hurt any of them at all, just play, and the dogs show no sign of distress either, I like to think of it as practice, but some dog owners get really worried by it. My bitch will allow other dogs to be dominant over her if she's on their turf, and generally is quite timid if another dog asserts itself, BUT... If a dog becomes seriously aggressive she just goes feral, and I mean seeking to kill the

Bad Foot Injury, Flesh Wound Down To Bone
The bone collector replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
PDSA are a waste of time mate, my dog nearly smashed it's leg in half on a gravestone about a year ago and they sent me back and forward like a f***ing yo-yo. In the end I just bought a first aid kit and gave the dog rest, cleaned the wound twice daily and bandaged it up fresh every few days. Took my bitch a couple of weeks to start moving about proper and then I just walked her for a while until I was confident she could go off the lead. Half of them vets don't even know how to have a wank never mind fix a dog, DIY and tlc mate and fingers crossed. -
Why Lurchers Over Pure Greyhounds?
The bone collector replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As a complete rookie I bought my first dog just over a year ago, I wasn't a complete stranger to working dogs though never worked one myself. I bought a pup from working parents, sire was a huge greyhound x saluki (rabbit & Hare) and mother a greyhound/deerhound x bull (fox etc). I got Pick of Litter and the pup, now roughly 13 months is a nice blend of the four dogs used, heavy saluki throwback looks wise, and also speed, stamina and intelligence. I've seen her run right round the edge of a field to come out on her preys blindside and box it away from tree line into open ground, she certa -
Best Way To Get My Dog Used To Water
The bone collector replied to Mark Baker's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Take your dog to the beach on a warm day, wade in slowly and encourage the dog, reassure it everything is ok, then just wade in gradually, until about waist high. I had my dog swimming for the first time in minutes, before that she would only go in to her elbows. Another way is to use a dog that is confident and allow your dog to watch it in water, should do the trick. ? -
What Am I Doing Wrong
The bone collector replied to colliexgreyhound's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'm a complete novice but I'd say it comes with age, my saluki bull grey pup is just turning twelve months and only just starting to kill small game, before that she just chased for fun, then one day she began stalking and using cover. They take their own time I guess. Also, take your dog out with older experienced dogs, but keep it leashed, tease it a bit. I'm gonna give mine another year before I show her a fox I reckon. -

Info On My Dogs Breeding?
The bone collector replied to The bone collector's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thanks mate ? -
Hello everyone, it might strike some of you as a stupid question but I was hoping to find out more about my dogs breeding. I know she's saluki/grey x dh/gh/bull but I don't know much about the lines, a few lads I've met local have told me she's from good stock but I'm naturally curious, particularly what bull breed was used if poss. I bought her from a lad in Kensington area from a litter of eight, her dad was called flint and her mother Skye, who I hear is sadly no longer with us. Anything at all would be much appreciated, thanks.

Mine was attacked a few times as a pup, once by an English bull off the lead, which grabbed her back leg and gave Her a nasty puncture wound. I kicked it in the head and it yelped and ran off. Second time was an American bulldog off lead, came at my dog and tried to grab her throat, but I grabbed its collar and and kneeled on its head until the owner came running over with all kinds of apologies, I told her to keep it leashed or I'd kill it next time. Third time my pup was older and harder, and wise to it all, patterdale cornered her and grabbed her throat, and having nowhere to run she fou

Thanks for the replies and jokes lads! I'm guessing it either hit the tree hard or just had a heart attack maybe, f**k knows. Surprised nobody has seen anything similar though. -

Hello all, I need some light shedding on a weird occurrence I witnessed yesterday. I was walking through the park when my dog chanced upon a squirrel in an open patch of grass, she naturally charged instantly not needing to stalk and almost hit it head on, but I saw the squirrel come out underneath her and bolt for a large tree. Usually the dog is back at my side within seconds of a missed attempt, but she doubled back and ran to the base of the tree and began jumping and pointing, trying to get my attention, then she dragged out a massive squirrel, fresh as anything, not a mark on it, still w

Strange Sights Whilst Lamping
The bone collector replied to teddog's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A mate of my arl fellers was out one night and said his dogs turned towards the edge of a crop field and started growling and acting weird. Everything went silent and then something walked out, he said it wasn't human, and it wasn't any animal he'd ever seen but it was as tall as he was, and it just stood looking at him, he dropped all his gear and ran all the way back to his van and f****d off. He's a genuine feller to which makes it all the more terrifying. Makes you wonder what's out there. -
Alano's Do They Still Use Them To Hunt ?
The bone collector replied to bird's topic in Big Game Hunting
There's a decent vid of a load of boar dogs with a massive boar in a river, all barking and holding it against the bank, this goes on for about fifteen mins, with none of the dogs being game enough to tackle the boar head on. Next minute this guy releases a dogo, it just bounds over no messing and crunches down on the top of the boars head, and gets stuck right in. Proper dogos do it like that, no noise, no f***ing about. Also, have a look on calafornia catchers website, that guy breeds some nice dogs, he has a greyhound x dogo too, it's a monster. -
As I said above I'm new to all this so excuse my newbie ways. I didn't want specifics like, just interested in what different dogs do best, as I'm more interested in daytime work with smaller quarry initially. Don't worry mate I'm not Cojack!

ones 13 or it could be 12 this year and the other has just turned six Haha, I forget my own age sometimes mate ?. What kinda work do your dogs specialise in? And what's in them?
-
Thanks mate, yeah hopefully she'll do me proud and looking forward to some adventures in future. Lovely dogs by the way, old veterans by the looks of things!
-
Thanks mate I'm happy with her so far. Are you familiar with the the line?

Here's a few pics of my pup, she's around 6 months old now. I'm not too clued up with breeding terminology as I'm a complete rookie, but here goes... Sire was Kai (greyhound/saluki) dame was Skye (greyhound/deerhound/bull) I've been told from a local lad that she's from a good line but I know nothing being a beginner and all so if anyone knows anything, bonus. She seems game like, goes for anything small and furry and goes well on an improvised drag lure. I don't wanna force her into anything yet as she's still young and isn't too serious yet. Any tips on bringing her on much appreciated. Also
