  1. The privis always seemed to be a bit hit and miss in my 270,but good for fouling up the barrel, and ridiculously cheap, ideal for reloading. Remmington core-lock always gave good results in the 90-100gr range,as did the federal, although slightly more expensive.
  2. You can get a new vortex scope for that money. Mod wise, most retail at just over the £200 mark,yo could pick one up second hand.
  3. Sounds like he was looking for a reaction,or just a twat. You could have been anybody for him to say such a sweeping stupid remark.
  4. Just back in from doing a bit of limping and cutting a rabbit up for the stinkers. Getting them out of the hutch and happy hour in the garage, running around, put my phone down and spent the last hour looking for the bloody thing, and it's on silent. Lo and behold they've dragged it back into the hutch!!
  5. It's strange sometimes, the less you do,the more you get. I've shot the field surrounding our house since i was 10 with the air rifle, now I'm getting people begging to come and shoot their rabbits, and having just got my two jill kits happy days.
  6. Shooting a lion doesn't appeal to me any one bit, except if the fuker was coming straight at me,then fair enough. If someone wants to pay £50k to shot one, then that's their business, I'm not sure how many people ever heard of Cecil before his Demise, and if it was just another Lion hunt, would it be in the media as much, probably not. The whole thing stinks, and we're only getting drips of info, the shot went wrong, and the animal ventured onto the park, where it was dispatched. The tracking collar was then apparently in an effort to conceal the crime destroyed by the parties involved. I
  7. There should be no hidden fee with whoever you choose to go with. You need to make sure you're happy with their fees, and that you understand them all, generally there very few chancres out there, who would be quick to try and take the piss. An outing fee i would expect to pay in the region of £70- per outing,so that's either a morning or evening,3-4hrs ish. Some charge for cull animals, while others include in the price, and others charge a flate rate fee for bucks with x no of points per antler. The damaged venison is usually if you shoot it in the haunch, or in the guts,as you say the loss o
  8. The SD has a load of decent reputable guides on their, who will no doubt try their best to get you onto a beast. You can even get a taster type day,or introduction to stalking type day's going through shot placement, deer identification, rifle safety awareness, and graloching,as well as butchering you're beast if your lucky to grass one. I can pm you some decent guides who I have confidence in,and been with before, you could use their estate rifle facilities until you're sorted, which also adds to build towards your own portfolio when applying for you're FAC.
  9. They are becoming much more popular here in the Uk,and there's always someone wanting stupid money. Don't get me wrong,if someone wants to ask £1000 for a pup, crack on that's their business, but a lot of these high price dogs haven't seen any work, and probably wont in their lifetime. And just because you're paying big money, don't expect a shit hot dog. I did over 12 months research before I got my pup,and visited a few breeders, somewhere know, and made contact with various kennels, here and in Europe. There's some imported dogs & pups fetching well over £1000,and again, don't think j
  10. After a few months of talking to some mates and saying I'm after a couple of jills from a spell of absence,I'm inundated with offers. Thank fully picking nice two jills up on the weekend from a good friend, happy days. Like a kid at Christmas, surprised at how many I've seen for sale and been offered. Thankfully a few venison sausages and some burgers go along way!
  11. The guide/ outfitter will have an estate rifle for you to use in most cases, no need for you to have fac with deer etc. He will have his insurance in place but it's always good to get your own. If you're looking for specifically muntjac, I would consider someone close to Norfolk or Bedfordshire.
  12. I've a Stuzen in 270. I took the front band that goes over the barell off and bedded the action,so the barell is effectively free floating. It's lighter than my t3 to carry, accurate and prity easy to point on the shoukder quickly. I originally got it for driven boar with the open sights. I wouldn't even consider a moderator, that's the whole reason for the Stuzen in the first place,as long as you dont mind the bang. You're welcome to have a go if you can get to the tunnel in Bangor
  13. He has a open ticket said he had to wait 18 month but now it's granted he can shoot where he has permission with out any checks but can shoot on other peoples land as long as they ( the permission holder ) are with him. I missread the first post.I thought he ment the land owner.apologies.
  14. I would agree with your mate to an extent. His open cert will allow him onto you permission for example, if your land owner gives him the go ahead, and if his mate has an open cert he's allowed too , provided that they both have the permission of the land owner. Their all written slightly differently, and vary from force to force, and there's always some sort of condition attached in most cases. An open FAC doesn't require you to check with the police, hence the reason for an open, the onus and responsibility is on you to make sure the land is suitable for whatever cal of rifle you're
  15. The South Wales rivers,Teifi,Towy,Dyfi etc are big,and can be quite intimidating, not to mention dangerous at night, and unless you know someone who fishes it regular, you'll struggle, local knowledge is the key. The Dee is a lot more manageable, but alot of the Clubs don't do day tickets for Sea Trout, even though you'll be fishing at night. I persobally reccomend you try and book with GH,the Dee Valley has loads of lovely Hotels, bnb etc and really is a nice part of Wales. We have a small Lake here on the Island that has a run of sea trout,Llyn Coron. Could coincide with the Bala co
  16. Which part of wales were you thinking of. I know Gwilym, and he's based right on the Welsh Dee ( North Wales) you could do sea trout, salmon, grayling and brown trout in a day.
  17. Thats exactly what ive done. I got a fabricator to make up a bracket and bar it works a treat, and fits into the shelf part. I can fet two roe or last year two of my pigs. Pm your email I can send you a pic.
  18. Were lucky here in Anglesey, we have an indoor 100yrd range, and I've tried this method with really good success.
  19. Taken from the Berger website, and a little bit about seating depth and seating depth. VLD bullets are designed with a secant ogive. This ogive shape allows bullets to be more efficient in flight (retain more velocity = less drop and wind deflection). While this result is desirable for many rifle shooters the secant ogive on the VLD bullets produces another result in many rifle. It can be difficult to get the VLD to group well (poor accuracy). For years we encouraged shooters to use a base of cartridge to end of bearing surface OAL (I will use the term COAL to represent this dimension) whi
  20. Very cool and very addictive, and a hobby/sport in it's own right, glad it's working out for you. As you've found out, some if not most rifle will group differently hot or cold, and for an accurate and true test the whole lot have to be the same. My tika t3 lite gets hot quite quickly, but as a stalking rifle,I normally just check where the first cold bore shot is,then start to load develop. Bullet comparators are invaluable for measuring the ogive, they measure the exact same distance it stops being for example .243 when the bullet starts to taper,so you're not measuring to the point of th
  21. Fokinell that's lucky. Guns can be replaced mate, euro millions ticket this week I reckon.
  22. Hi Guys, getting the itch to get back into my ferreting. Used to do a lot when I was younger, and like everything, things have seen to moved on,and getting more time on my hands. I'm at a complete loss as to which locator I should be looking at,also are the finding collars compatible with other models. I'm probably only looking at a couple to begin with to gradually build myself up,if any one has any recommendations I'd be grateful.
  23. Good luck First time I used the hand primer I had the oven glove and sweating like a lesbian in a fishmongers. I doubt you'll reach max loads, usualy close to 10-20% from max is where it's at. Keeping an eye on pressure all the time. A lot don't crimp when beck sizing, just seat the bullet, get it wrong and the pressure starts to build.
  24. Consistency is the key to accuracy, what ever you do from the first case to the last should be exactly the same. Personally I full length resize, then trim accordingly with the lee zip trip lathe tool, or the simple lee hand trimner. + or - a few though i batch into seperate groups but i try and get them all the same. If you are fl re-sizing and trimming you need to keep an eye on you're brass life for wear and general condition. Fl rezising will put more strain on the brass,& stretch it more than neck sizing only, so you need to be aware of the number of reloads/resized cases you've
