Definitely get him castrated. You'll be amazed at the difference. The way I see it its like turning a moody, frustrated and horny teenager back into an innocent child, more playful and nicer smelling. Your ferret will develop a stronger bond with you and your other ferret. Trust me it may be expensive but its definitely the best option if you don't plan to use him for breeding.

What sort of time do they stop coming back into season, I'd like as few trips to the vets as possible?

My jill came fully into season over the weekend. I plan on getting her jabbed to bring her back out of season. How long should I leave her before taking her to the vets? (first jill I've owned as I usually go for hobs)

I like to keep hobs but whenever I've tried to get hold of a polecat one they're always huge!

What's everyone's favourite colour of ferret? Personally I like the albino as its easier to spot. However I've always wanted a polecat because I like their bandit masks and the natural wild colour.

I clean the muck out twice a day and top up food and water once a day. I fully clean out their hutch either once or twice a week depending on the state of it. For bedding I use old blankets and towels and they get washed once a week.

Buckbeak I believe, I can also recall a Harry Potter film where they turned Draco Malfoy into a ferret... Bloody wizards In all seriousness though it is disgusting and I really feel for those who've had theirs stolen.

Does anyone on here have their ferts vaccinated? How much is it as I have never bothered?

Cost £40 each to have my hobs castrated. Make sure you ring around to get cheapest price because it can vary. I've also heard of folks ringing up their local ferret shelter and asking where they get them done as they may know cheapest rates

When I first got them he wouldn't let my larger hob get near the food bowl until he'd had his fill! Love his character haha

When I bought my two hobs (both 6 months and same litter) I was amazed by the difference in size. Neither of the two are big ferrets and are roughly equal in size now but when I first got them one I would consider a healthy weight and size and the other was tiny and really skinny. I was just wondering whether kits establish a hierarchical system early in life and whether there are 'runts' in ferret litters? Just some extra info- the one I considered the 'runt' is the best tempered ferret I have ever encountered in handling terms but is also the feistiest little blighter too!

I was just curious to know what would happen if you worked ferrets that didn't know each other together. For example, I have 2 hobs (both castrated) and my friend has 2 jills, what would happen if we worked them together on a burrow (bearing in mind they haven't met before)? Also if we gave them some time together before we worked them would it make any difference? Cheers
