I reckon it's got a lot to do with the terrier blood used? And the whippet I suppose. I've seen plenty of both with a stubborn side and won't do a thing they are told. This terrier I've got here is really biddable and obedient, never goes too far. That type of terrier crossed with a decent working whippet could make handy types I reckon.

Update On My Minkenry Pointer Lurcher
krawnden replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sounds like the pup's coming on really well. Look forward to future updates... I think the point socks was making about weight is that although she fits that description you quoted, that's what you'd expect as an adult. But you wouldn't expect to start seeing that typical body shape much before 7 or 8 months - up to that point most people would prefer a chunky, solid looking thing. Though to be fair, a heavily sighthound saturated pup like yours will fine down earlier than many other types of lurcher. -
Gaz - lovely pics of the plummer on the heather Squab - love the ears on that top pic! I'll see if I can take some similar pics of mine in the long grass at some point over the next few days...

Definitely cheaper over the long run with a snipped hob, especially if you've got quite a few jills and most years that's how my jills have been brought out. But this year I no longer have one and my smallest jill has recently started losing quite a bit of condition and I didn't want to risk anything going wrong (especially as she's my best worker), which is why I went for the jab. But planning to get a hob kit this year who'll be snipped as soon as he's old enough so he'll be able to do the honours next year.
-
I've never had any of my jills jabbed before but have just had them done this morning. The vet was very vague about whether or not they could come back into season this year. Anybody out there with enough experience of having them jabbed to be able to tell me? They were well and truly fully in season when it was done.

Contact NELS0N on here he is the man for quick sets. TC Unfortunately he seems to have stopped coming on here. I asked him if he could do me a 100 yarder about 6 weeks back but he still hasn't been on to read the pm. Last online back in March. Normal service will resume soon Glad to hear it

There was a thread on the same thing last year and if I remember right there was one lad who said he'd had a litter of twenty plus. Can't remember if it was 22 or might even have been 26.

I remember Alan. Haven't seen him for years, but if boyo reads this he might comment as I believe he keeps in touch...

Many, many years ago i ventured North with a mucker seeking a Saluki from the Shap area,at the time the Deerhound Coursing club, because of diminishing membership, was taken over by the Saluki ownership, the Deerhounds were still allowed to compete,do any folk on here have an input into any of that? and how did it fizzle out.The saluki he brought back was a dumb fecker, killed hares and bunnys with aplomb, then spent at least 10 minutes refusing to retrieve each and every one,for 7 years. Don't know what you mean about the Deerhound Coursing Club being taken over by the salukis. Possibly you'r

Yes, it was her. She used a greyhound over one of her deerhound bitches. At the time some people thought she'd done it to get more speed but it wasn't. She did it as she was worried the gene pool was too small and wanted an outcross. Although she continued to cross back to deerhounds nobody else in the breed would use any of those outcrosses in their own breeding programme, which really annoyed her.

Unfortunately he seems to have dropped off the radar - not been on here since early March. I've had some nets off him before and sent him a pm about 6 wks back asking him if he could do me a 100yd long net, but he still hasn't read the pm. I don't have any other way of contacting him.

You thinking about adding one to your team squab?tongue in cheek mate was on the sauce last night, spaniel x terriers work for me round here so won't try and fix something that's not broken cheers. Haha I know it was tongue in cheek mate. I fully understand why the plummers get a bad rap, spoke to plenty of people with shit ones since I've had this bitch. Too many people showing them and breeding closely to lock in the good looks and not enough people working them or breeding worker to worker. Same with lots of things though I suppose. The good ones are out there and are very good. I ca

Cracking looking pup. I'm very jealous of everyone who had one of these pups. Timing just wasn't right for me. Looking forward to following his - and the others' - progress.

Looking good...

New Pointer Lurcher To Hunt With My Trained Mink!
krawnden replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Bonny looking pup. Nice to see you've finally found what you're after, and I look forward to seeing how she turns out. You're off to a good start so it's just a case of onwards and upwards... -
boyo - the 5 in the photo. (Or did you mean the other place with the horse chestnut? If the latter - 18) day and night walker - thanks for the comments

Raymond - the bunnies love that garden. It's absolutely massive and I reckon it takes somewhere between 2 - 3 hours to systematically work every single flower border and patch of cover with the dogs. And that's before I do anything with the ferrets. I caught 5 last week - and when I was there a couple of months back had 7. But it doesn't matter how thoroughly I clear the garden, sooner or later they move in from the surrounding fields that are hooching with the things. Gaz - it's great fun. I really enjoy doing gardens as they can be very challenging. And the owners are always chu

Quite a lot of my paid jobs are in gardens. And for some reason they nearly all contain box parterres/knot gardens. And I've discovered that these make fantastic holding cover for rabbits, and I regularly find at least one in them, but they can be a hell of a challenge for the dogs to catch because when they do eventually break cover they never have far to run till they're in cover again. My terrier's worth her weight in gold here, and has become very good at working them methodically, but it's hard work for her as she constantly has to keep jumping 'hedges'. I was doing another one of the

Well done the little cocker. Nothing like a catch to improve their self-belief - once they know they can do it they give it everything they've got.

Anyone Using Airedales As A Vermin Dog
krawnden replied to kyboy44's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I think you'd be better off asking on here fella - http://workingairedale.**"£$%^&*(.com/. It's a board made up predominantly of airedale boys from The US and Canada and there are bound to be people on there who can answer your questions from personal experience. I doubt there are many people on this site who can answer from experience. -
Sirblessed - I'm absolutely gobsmacked there are whippets listed there with times virtually the same as - or in some cases even faster than - greyhounds. All I can assume is that Australian whippets are a lot faster than their UK counterparts 'cos there's absolutely no way any whippet I've ever seen could outrun a greyhound. What height are Ozzie whippets?
