  1. As said above, most jills that turn protective soon calm down again. But I once had one turn that way that had always been really placid that never calmed back down. Six months after the kits had been weaned she was still attacking me like a tigress. I'm afraid at that point I ran out of patience and she was pts.
  2. Lovely looking pup - all the best with him. I really like the sound of that breeding. Walks will soon start being way more fun
  3. How old is he fox digger? Any pics?
  4. Vin - absolutely no reason why castrating them will affect their working ability. I've had some terrific castrated hobs including the best worker I've ever had. Only downside is not being able to keep the bloodline going.
  5. Good luck with the new pup - sounds a useful mix. Is the spaniel part of it cocker, springer or what?
  6. D'you see much difference between them in the way they work? Or would you say they're very similar?
  7. I know the youngster's 3/4 spaniel 1/4 terrier but can't remember about the older one - what's the breeding there?
  8. You're lucky to have a beach nearby - wish I did too! Terrific pics and dogs looking in great shape. As skycat said, bitch in 2nd photo is absolutely stunning.
  9. Anybody have a phone number please?
  10. Agree with Gaz - would love to see some pics...
  11. Bonny wee thing mate - look forward to seeing how she turns out....
  12. tbh if you're in Scotland I wouldn't waste my time with outdoor tomatoes - they'll almost certainly be a disappointment.
  13. Yes I do. But only since recent problems with fading puppy or canine herpes. Plenty heat is recommended and it working for me, so to be honest I am kind of cautious to stop for the sake of a few quid. I have noticed pups thrive better under heat so no harm in it. 3 weeks of heat and then they are out of the danger zone. Cheers mate .I may be a dinosaur where pups are concerned but I'm still a firm believer in nature before nurture and believe that if a pup isn't going to make it it will die regardless of heat or not .I will never mate a bitch out of summers months ,preferrably spring and
  14. that would depend what you call summer, I've had litters in june that have needed them because of wet cold conditions and it would also depend where you are keeping them, common sense really, get yourself a incubator thermometer,it has a digital read out and a remote sensor on the end of a wire that can be placed in the bed with the bitch, I keep mine around 19*C. Corkman, I always used to let nature take its course until finding 3 "dead" pups on my kitchen floor at 6-30am one sat morning and another large bull headed pup half hanging out the bitch, I quickly put the 3 "dead" ones in my dre
  15. Hope its a good turnout bosun.Rip to your mate ste. What types did he breed/work terrier/spaniel/hound crosses? if you dont mind me asking? He started with a hard bitten red terrier bitch (who's name escapes me right now) and he put that to a quality ESS dog.I remember, as a kid, meeting him close to where i live now. All i wanted to hear was about his working terriers and he's telling me his best bitch is in pup to a spaniel... I was devistated..! Plenty of others thought the same too, Ste had some of the best digging dogs around and this was sacrilage..! He bred his litter and started work
  16. Nice sounding cross in theory - hope it comes good for you....
  17. I don't have a teckel but an approx teckel sized terrier.
  18. Wow! That would be the dog to put to one of Dill's lurcher daughters, which would make the pups 3/4 Airedale, 1/4 lurcher. Now that would be seriously interesting, and no doubt extremely useful. I must admit that thought had already crossed my mind!

  20. I had no idea you'd lost her mate, but very pleased for you that you got her back. I once had a lurcher go missing for 3 days and the stress of not knowing what's happened is horrendous. Glad this had a happy ending
  21. I doubt there are many - if any - left now; as far as I know jrearthdog was the only person to import and breed and his last litter must have been 8 - 10 years ago. BUT, for those that are interested.... I have a friend in the US who plans to move here towards the end of this year and bring his two redlines with him. He has a dog and a bitch, both bred the same way but from different litters. So no chance of purebred pups, but it's just possible he might be prepared to let the dog be used at stud. I think it's about 3 - 4 yrs old, so still got plenty of years ahead of it. I've seen photos and
  22. Always a relief when they catch their first if it's been a long time coming. That'll have done her confidence the world of good
  23. Welcome back! Thought you'd signed off for good. Love that bottom pic
