  1. You wouldn't catch me trying to eat such a small one - the amount of bone in them's horrendous. It must be about 30 years since I last ate pike but in the days when I did I'd never go for anything smaller than about 7 or 8lb. Even then you're still dealing with masses of bone but at least there's a much better ratio of flesh.
  2. As others have said - cat carrier. I use one of the ones that are completely mesh so also use it out in the field if weather's warm and dry.
  3. Well done the pup. She looks pleased with herself - doesn't look like she got bitten either. I think every one of my runners had the thing hanging off their nose the first time. They soon learn though! But not so my little bushing terrier - she's had quite a few and right from the start she was murdering them
  4. She's coming on really nicely mate. You said in another post she's a serious pup but she doesn't look it in those clips - just looks like she's having the time of her life. Exactly how you want 'em when training to retrieve
  5. You got a link dc? Nothing at rabbithunter.com
  6. £15 apiece new from here http://www.uktraps.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=79. For second hand unless you get offers off here I guess you've just got to keep your eye on ebay, gumtree etc.
  7. Nice looking youngster lurcherman
  8. Very dependent on what you feed them. If I've run out of rabbit etc mine get dry and by god they drink then. But if they're on mostly rabbit they don't drink anything like as much.
  9. I'm a big fan of roadwork on the bike for fitness - great for their feet and stamina. You're lucky to have somewhere quiet like that to be able to do it Gaz - nothing like that round my way. I have to do it all on country lanes. To try and miss the traffic I need to try and be back home and all finished by 7 - 7.15am
  10. My Saluki x could do with a little more weight on her. Would it be worth trying raw mixed with a premium dry like Akela? She eats around even finely shredded veg and carbs like brown rice or pasta. If I feed her more meat, she'll just bury it One of mine eats around even finely shredded veg too. So what I do is very lightly cook it with a bit of beef stock or a stock cube then blitz it in a food processor so it's completely liquidised. Sometimes I mix that puree with meat etc, but what I've started doing recently is pureeing raw liver and mixing it with that. It comes out as a very we
  11. Yes nl, you're right - his mate did have it. I've followed the occasional updates on that litter with interest and that black dog looks to have turned into something useful
  12. Good stuff Gaz. That new bitch of yours seems to have found her feet. Don't think I've read anything on here about where she and Jim were before you boys recently got them - had they done much d'you know?
  13. As trenchfoot says, Hunting Act only applies to mammals. But it's illegal to kill game birds after sunset, so pheasant would definitely be a no-no. Canada goose isn't a game bird and is also now on the general licence, so if you can prove you're meeting the conditions of the general licence it's definitely legal to kill them at any time of day. But I must admit I'm not certain if using a dog to do so falls within its scope.
  14. Thanks terry and Gaz. oz - not so easy to tell in that photo but no, she's not docked -
  15. Taken when she was getting on for about a year old.

  17. Kevyn - pm'd you on 17th Aug. Can you back to me on that when you get a chance please. Cheers.
  18. Well said Gaz. Practice makes perfect - they have to be given the opportunity.
  19. She had never been to ground when I got her mate, she wouldn't even enter cover. She obviously really found her feet with you Gaz, so no reason why this new bitch shouldn't shine for you too in time. All the best with her...
  20. He's a lump of a thing. So long as he's got the determination to do it, he ought to be able to force his way through anything.
