  1. I have a mate who used to get out with them - I'll ask him...
  2. Yes, I can see it. Is it your new pup? Spaniel x terrier?
  3. Still myxi about. Both those 2 from yesterday had it. Although they are still catching some healthy ones, probably - 90% of what they're catching are myxied. Definitely seeing far fewer rabbits about now than I was a month ago - I'm just praying there'll still be enough left when it burns itself out for the numbers to pick up again over the course of the summer. Probably wishful thinking....
  4. But a bit easier when she caught another one half an hour later...
  5. Heavy weather of this one today...
  6. Nice MIK. My terrier's still young so far too early to say she's a jack of all trades, but in addition to what I got her for I'm hoping to use her with the gun. She already retrieves what she catches - How's your bred?
  7. You must be in a different part of Glos to me as it's rife round my way and has been for the last few weeks
  8. From what i have seen of your vids it looks as though you live in a rural area and if thats the case i don't think mixi will wipe them out altogether whereas where i live the places i hunt are very small, one particular place has zero rabbits after an outbreak autumn 2013, only a small place about a ten min walk from mine so it was real handy... oh well.. atb fella Yes, rural by me. Although I'd agree it's unlikely to totally wipe them out it can still knock their numbers back massively.
  9. She's always alert to the slightest trace of scent, but if none about she won't go forcing into cover for the sake of it. If you had a few rabbits a while ago but they've all disappeared now, my guess is that myxy's been through and had them all. I'm worried that's what's going to happen round my way as I've been finding myxied ones for the last few weeks...
  10. Out for a mooch today when this happened - The lurcher was in a really odd mood, doing all sorts of things that are out of character. He's not the best retriever by a long shot, but he'll usually at least bring it back. Today he wasn't interested at all - mouthed it a bit then just walked away. I hope that's not a sign of things to come.... But luckily I had my golden retriever with me, and once she came out of the hedge to see what the fuss was about ...
  11. Difficult to see as it was all away in the distance but the busher pushed a rabbit out of the hedge beyond the bramble clump in the middle of the screen. You can just see her racing up the hill to try and catch up in the last few seconds of the clip...
  12. My bushers are often heavy manned, what they catch in tight cover is often beyond worthwhile retrieval, anything flushed is often beyond their remit, sadly ive yet to make them understand the folly of their endeavour,at times.3 terriers and a fallow don,t add up,unless?. Yes, I can see that if you've got 3 terriers all piling into something it's not going to be fit for much by the time they're done Because I've only got the one it isn't an issue for me.
  13. morton, I agree a busher's main task is to flush out of cover, but as tb25 says if the terrier catches in cover I want it to retrieve. Mine's caught a lot of rabbits in thick cover recently that I'd never have been able to reach if she didn't retrieve them.
  14. Sire is first cross border terrier x whippet, dam is mixed ancestry but mostly russell with a bit of patterdale, lakeland and a few other things several generations back.
  15. She did well with that catch - can't have been easy
  16. Another wet one from this evening (you'll need to have the sound turned up or you'll be wondering what's happening) -
  17. Only sorted one way at the moment - if the terrier catches, the lurcher - for the most part - doesn't interfere. But if the lurcher catches and the terrier sees it, she does interfere. I'm working on it and hopefully will solve it but I'm definitely not there yet.
  18. No, I can't blame her - I was in shorts this afternoon and I certainly wasn't about to get in there and try and push out whatever was in there! I'm not unduly worried as she's more than satisfied my expectations already and she's still not even a year old. But as she's my first busher I'm just curious to know if she's typical... But if I ever decide to breed from her, coat is definitely something I'll pay a lot of attention to in the choice of stud.
  19. The one thing I'd change on my busher if I could is her coat. It's quite thin; she hates cold rain and nettles. And now the weather's fast warming up I think I'm going to be seeing a lot more of this ... I'm pretty certain there was something in there - her tail only feathers like that when there's strong scent - but she wouldn't push right in because of all the nettles. This is where you boys with spaniel crosses would leave me looking stupid. Those of you with thin coated terriers - are yours the same when it comes to nettles?
