    Thanks to several time wasters I have 4 kits available out of good workers. They're 71/2 weeks old so ready to go. Been reared on whole carcass - rabbit, crow, magpie, pigeon etc. Well handled and had plenty of exposure to dogs. 1 albino jill, 3 black eyed white hobs. Each of the hobs has a bit of silvery colour on legs and tail, some more than others.     I know foxhound45, yes he did keep Airedales had a few nice ones I don't know much about them but he did have one or two redline bred Airedales. He used them for a variety of things mostly deer tracking but unfortunately since having to relocate a substantial distance through change of job the dogs all had to be rehomed and the plans stopped there.     And he never did - that was one of the things that really hacked Ian off I have spoke to Ian some time back and can confirm,what Krawnden is saying the guy is a sound bloke, who has had his share of problems,and as far as I am aware he has now moved down south, all his dogs were bred right, and I know one guy who uses his, for what it was intended to be used for and loves it,he says the dog will do anything he needs of it, this dog was bred by Ian, all Ian wanted to do was to re-establish the hunting strain of the Dog back, into its country of origin the guy really is worth speakin

    I name them, but not because I expect them to respond to their name like a dog. I suppose it's more for the kids' sake than anything else - they often ask how each individual ferret has got on after a ferreting trip, so it avoids any confusion if we're all singing off the same hymn sheet.

    I usually start mine off around 5 months. They're pretty much full grown by then so can't see anything to be gained by waiting. My theory is that a wild polecat will be hunting independently by then so a ferret ought to be ready to start learning its trade.

    I very much doubt you'll have any joy fella. About 18 months back I was seriously considering getting a working bred airedale and spoke to Ian about it. He hadn't bred a litter in years and was very disappointed that the vast majority of the pups he'd bred had not ended up being worked or properly tested. He was pretty scathing about most of the people who'd had pups. He said he'd only consider breeding again if he was certain he could find sensible, reliable people to have the pups. But before he could even think about that he was trying to move down south and wouldn't even consider it until

    I've never heard of them being eaten as old as that - really surprised. I'd always thought by that age they were well past any danger.

    If you want them to be on grass but don't want to have a mesh base to the run you're only option would be to bury something vertically all the way round at the base of the run. Weldmesh, metal sheeting, concrete blocks etc. Doesn't really matter what it is, so long as it's ferretproof and permanent (ie won't rot like timber would). I suspect 12 inches would be deep enough but wouldn't want to swear to it, never having housed 'em like this myself. Probably safer with 18 inches?

    Depends on the country really. If you're on open moorland or fell they'll not hinder you if you plan to take it steady. If you want to do any running depending on how accustomed they are to that they may or may not trip you up.... But if there are lots of obstacles on the day and you find yourself repeatedly climbing barbed wire fences and crawling through little holes in hedges etc I'd find it a bit of a pain having one or more dogs on leads.

    Done loads of it over the years. Generally speaking you'll most likely be on open agricultural land as opposed to in woodland. Likely to be smallish, friendly field - everyone'll be happy to chat to you. So if at any point you want to know what's going on just ask one of the field and they'll be only too happy to explain. But don't go asking the huntsman (unless there's a lull in the proceedings) cos he'll be concentrating on what he's doing. Likely to pass round a cap at the meet - contribution unlikely to be compulsory but a fiver or so will be appreciated. You'll be on foot

    So far all they've had has been rabbit, crow, magpie and pigeon. But 11 of the little buggers will take some feeding and I don't know how long my supplies will last out! They might have to get a bit of dry every 3 or 4 days just to eke out what I've got in the freezer...
