To my eternal regret I took very few - it was in the days of film, so none of the snapping away without a care in the world that we do these days. But somewhere I've got one of him around a year old. I'll have to hunt for it but if I can find it I'll stick it up.

Preban I used to have a first cross standard poodle x greyhound. I had pick of the litter and chose the raciest looking one. He ended up just over 23" tts. Was shaping up to be a really useful alrounder. Had taken daytime hare, was good with ferrets and sensible around the nets, took roe and munty and was showing potential on the lamp. Very bright and biddable, had a good coat and wonderful temperament. Great with the kids and a real pleasure to have around. One of those dogs that just got under your skin and wormed right into your affections. Killed on the road in pursuit of bambi age 21 mont

If it's any consolation I used to use a 35mm camera with all the gear and understood it perfectly, but now I've got an all singing all dancing digital it's way too complicated for me to understand! But for what it's worth the basics of 35mm film cameras were that the brighter the conditions the faster the shutter speed and the greater depth of field you could have (the greater the aperture, the greater the depth of field). If light levels remain unchanged and you increase your shutter speed, you must decrease depth of field to compensate, and vice versa. If you want fast action shots in perfec

What a lovely pic lofti - the smile on the lad's face says it all

She certainly looks big. Whatever she has, hope all goes well....

Yes - parti-colour standard. A lot of people slate poodles based, probably, on the lion haircuts and bows on the head you see in the show ring. But don't underestimate them - intelligent and versatile dogs. I used to have a first cross standard poodle x greyhound I was very pleased with. I got a 3/4 miniature 1/4 lab hope to turn it into a mooching busher just me an the dog. Any pics?

Good Retrieve From The Lurcher This Morning
krawnden replied to MIK's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Nice I'd love to have a lurcher that liked water. I've only ever had one and unfortunately he was killed on the road as a young dog. All my others have hated the stuff. -
It's possible they're pregnant - I've heard of quite a few cases where the op didn't work. But it's equally possible the op worked fine and these two are having phantom pregnancies. You'll just have to wait and see....

Interesting comment leethedog - I've been trying to think about if that's the case for me or not. And I don't think it is. I'm a gardener and often pull nettles out. The action involves grasping with finger and thumb, and sometimes the nettle will be against the palm of the hand. I often get stung while pulling them out. And I often get stung while pushing in a purse net peg. I tend to push in with the heel of my hand so the bits that are exposed to any surrounding nettles are the backs of the fingertips just below the nail, the lower part of the palm and the inside of the wrist. Pretty sure I

take off your own shoes for a few months and see the difference If your analogy is correct it ought to be the same for hands. Until recently my hands were tough, calloused and rough as hell from constantly working with picks, spades etc outdoors all day. But for the last few months my work regime has been dramatically different and my hands are soft as a baby's arse by comparison. But there's absolutely no difference in what I feel if I handle nettles - they sting just as much now as they did when I had hands like leather. I would have thought it's down to the nerve endings?

My Daughter Olive's First Hunt With Our Mink Rio!
krawnden replied to Minkenry's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Never too early to start taking your kids hunting But on a different note altogether, either you don't have Weils disease in America, or you're completely insane! In the UK 50% of wild rats carry Weils disease. A bite from one of those would literally be life-threatening! -
I could well be wrong, but personally I wouldn't have thought roadwork would make that much difference to whether or not a dog can cope with nettles. But I'd be interested to hear of any evidence to the contrary.

Adding working borzoi mightn't hurt, but I can't see any UK borzoi blood being a worthwhile addition.

Maybe I should up the oil content of mine. They get lard on meat a couple of times/week and oily fish once a week, but no more than that . But that brindle bitch of yours looks in fine fettle.

Gaz - how often d'you give the oil? And how much?

Just got one of these boxes off Jok. Well made, well packaged and Jok a gent to deal with. As others have said, it's light as a feather. But not at all flimsy. Reckon it should hold two small - medium jills or one hob. No issue at all with the mesh front as far as I can see - I'd be astonished if a ferret hurt itself on it. I did point out one potential drawback with the design which I think Jok agreed on and plans to amend. Obviously until I've had a chance to test it in the field I can't say how it'll perform in real life, but initial impressions are good.

I looked at the ad out of curiosity more than anything else, but it's definitely not a cross I'd want to go for. I think you should do everything you possibly can to stack the odds in your favour when you get a working lurcher pup. I'd want to see plenty of workers on both sides. I think it's extremely unlikely the borzoi grandparent of these pups is a worker, bred from a long line of workers.

Aye, that's the one

Public Liability Insurance For Dog After Court Case
krawnden replied to pongopalmer's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Most, if not all, normal pet insurance policies will include public liability as standard. But if a dog has bitten already, and the owner's been charged with having the dog dangerously out of control I doubt any insurance company would want to take on that piece of business. I think all you can do is ring round a load of insurers and ask. -
Lovely photos

This bramble patch regularly produces a rabbit. Just been out for a mooch on a glorious spring day and couldn't resist taking a detour to check it out. The busher immediately knew something was at home and flew in

That's interesting - I had no idea. I wonder if there are still any about that aren't black. (Incidentally, deerhounds also used to come in different colours - brindle, red, yellow etc. Another Scottish breed that for some reason seems to have lost the diversity of its coat colour.)
