  1. Do you think it makes much difference Would a dog that mostly lamps have a longer working life span than say a day time fen dog. Dismissing injuries.
  2. That could of been a buck and the one doing the screeming was maybe a doe Before the ban round my way when the hare's are starting to pair up (some seasons earlier than others, seen very young leverets mid Dec) you would often put up the buck first, I suppose to take danger away from his doe because a lot of the times as soon as you slipped the dog after a rising hare another would rise very close to the first and be of in the opposite direction. But I think as soon as his got his wicked way he will be of after another doe and risking his life again just for a stag. I'm not sa
  3. So much for (whippets got poor feet) lol How's his nails, saves all that clipping. Joking aside it could of been a lot worse in the dog being seriously hurt.
  4. Everyone is entitled to there opinion but it is just that An Opinion and not the gospel. I personally, when starting a pup of in the world of a working dog is just the dog and me. Why because it works for me but might not work for you, but that's YOUR choice(running a pup alongside a more exspirianced dog, or as you put it a pilot) and I respect that.
  5. You old timers do make me lol full to the brim with knowledge,so much so that you can take the p##t out of the very people you should be helping/advising, but you probably forgot more than we youngens will ever lurn. But us youngsters we can handle the banter/p##t take after all our skins nearly as thick as your terriers LOL
  6. I ofter read on here, it is best to run a youngster with a more exspirianced dog so why all the smart as comments, maybe that's what it's called in his neck of the woods. Just like some will call a form a seat but they don't get slaughtered. It's a shame as I think more people would contribute to a lot of conversations but will not because of fear of the p#ss taking bully boy tactics
  7. Owning running dogs can be a very hard learning curve.some you get away with some you don't.
  8. Go for a walk with just your camera it's amazing how close you can get if your steady and don't make eye contact.
  9. Forms are used all season if left alone but they will have and use more than 1 I've caught hare's and put others up from the same form but I have also seen old forms within yards of a new one being used.
  10. How I see it, hunting instinct is something most predators are born with that improves with practice, including our working dogs. Pray drive is something that drives the hunting instinct, but to much can be dangerous and costly, a terrier with to much will try to push on when it's not physically possible or a lurcher that will go through/over/under any danger in pursuit of game and normally have very short working lifes because of constant injury or death A greyhound has a very very high prey drive and not a lot of hunting instinct
  11. Complete nut cases in a flight but lovely looking birds
  12. I didnt think British birds had to be rung if your not selling them. Do many on here cover there rings with rubber ie from puncher kit
  13. Ego's and in exspiriance are most to blame But unfortunately there are jackets that are just not up to the task at hand But a fit healthy dog reared properly will always won't to run/work way beyond what's best for them, and it's up to the owner to know when to put it on the lead.
  14. What year/years do you think a running dog is at its best.2/3/4? Obviously a dog reared property And what year/years would you expect a decline
  15. It all depends on the woods you WERE running the dogs in, and what deer, an old forest with a high canopy will have a lot less ground cover than a young woods which normally have lots because of better light penertation an agile dog that had been schooled in the forest since a pup on pheasants/squirrels/rabbits and then when matured enough the big boys. A green heavy dog wouldn't last long in my opinion, back then that is
  16. She won't be fully matured, mentally or physically until she's at least 2 years old. She will probably grow another inch or so and be at least 10 pounds heavier, so she should get a lot quicker, if she's given the chance. A lot of dogs are ruined before they can even reach there best, so give her time and good luck with her
  17. Thanks for sharing great fun watching whippets doing what they do best. Happy Hunting
  18. Get him swimming if you can It's an ideal way of exercise after a dogs been layed up injured
  19. Keep your dog's indoors and if RSPCA turn up tell them to f#k off If you find them in your yard and there's f##t all wrong with your dogs/animals phone the police and insist they arrest them for trespass or for harassment
  20. The hardest thing in owning a dog is when they leave us RIP MAX
  21. Who gives a sh#t what the blokes breeding, if your not into what the man breeds don't buy a pup.
