I've got a pair nesting in a tree at the back of my house, singing his head of all day. I see more goldfinches than any other birds around my area and very rairly see or hear a greenfinch the complete opposite to when I was a kid

The odd chick might be a mule as sometimes the goldfinch will get to the hen before the cock canary. Keep your eyes on whos feeding chicks especially when they have left the nest, its very rare to get a cock bird feeding someone else's chicks

Prevention better than cure... Quite a lot of Canary breeders, treat there birds with antibiotics every Jan/Feb, so no nasties are past on to youngsters. Sick birds can recover from illness after treatment, but it always seems to come back and get them in the end.

Most dogs are good, UNTIL they have a bad experience with another dog, and then it can be month/years before its resoled, and with some dogs never the same again.
