That's strange it didn't work for you, works for me and works for every other small clawed animal kept on concrete bases

That didn't work for me - I kept 3 in a big run on a concrete base, 2 castrated hobs and a micro jill. The jill's nails were never much of a problem but both hobs grew nails like badgers' - the concrete didn't make the slightest bit of difference.

If you got a run put it on concrete and it will naturally keep their nails down.

Fair enough lads, my oringal comment came across wrong, yes they will kill wether they're hungry or not! I like a ferret that sticks with a rabbit! My main point was, not feeding a ferret for a few days before working em means a lack of energy. Who would want to do a hard days work without a belly full of grub.

He said don't feed them for a couple of days, I totally disagree. I don't alway feed mine before I go. That's like you not having food for a few days then going and having a hard days graft! Your going to be f****d!

Northern lad I'm sorry mate, but you obvs aint got a scooby about ferreting. If you don't feed em they're guna kill and stay down for a long time. The amount of time I've heard people say starve em before you go, for a start they will have no energy to work. It can take a while to get some ferrets working and some tend to get better over time. Get used to going into holes (I.e plastic ducting to start off), if you can get em used to the smell of a bunny, pull a Caracas down a pipe get em interested. Just keep trying mate see what happens. Fur and feather good alongside complete mix. If you're a young fella, carrying a hob or a gill will make no odds. But carrying the larger catch back after using the hob will make a difference lol. I use hobs together depending on the size of the bury, they're more interested in rabbits than scrapping. I do like gills but like van man said, if in doubt.

I've been ferreting all my life and still prefer to work hobs, they take there time and stick with a rabbit longer. A gill can be put off by a kick off of large buck rabbit. People say they pull the nets down but mine are quite slender so never have that problem. I went out with a friend recently he threw down 5 gills and they bolted 3 rabbits, I entered two Hobbs from either end and they bolted another 5. They go deeper than gills in my opinion. Or he just had shit ferrets lol

I feel for ya mate, happened to my neighbour 3 times in a row, he was sixty something at the time. Now doesn't keep any ferrets or ant of his gear at his house. I keep all my gear inside but the ferrets are outside. Sorry to hear it mate

I done a mole job this morning and the customer found a stoat on his drive, which was still alive but dieing. He kept it for me knowing my love of mustelids, I would love it stuffed and to keep it myself seeing as it's so beautiful. Please message me if anyone knows someone, cheers

Good post Chris jones. People on the forum get upset about newbies coming into pest control, but if they was really in it for the money, would they honestly spend their spare time on a forum about it? Think about it.
