  1. Agree to an extent about best drivers and best cars but there remains a lot of variables. In my opinion Alonso is a better driver than Vettel, but has half the world titles simply because of the tools they had. I actually think that if you were to put Max and the likes of a prime Hamilton, Schumacher, Senna, Fangio maybe Prost, Stewart, Lauda, Piquet in exactly the same car, there would be very little to split them.
  2. F1 is a motorsport rather than a sport…, so much of the success is down to the car. Granted it needs a great driver to get the best out of it, but for me it makes it nigh on impossible to determine who the best is, or was. No doubt Verstappen is a great in the making though, but the extent of his legacy will always be dictated by the car his team can put on the track.
  3. Another memorable and iconic sporting moment that. Watched that game in digs abroad with a Geordie lad.,, who was absolutely frantic during the game and couldn’t sit down. I remember when the ref blew for the foul saying ‘Beckham scores this’.., and the rest is history. For me though (as a Scotsman) as good as the free kick was, Beckham’s performance that day was absolutely unbelievable…, covered every blade of grass, and was the very epitome of a captain who leads by example.
  4. I’m in favour of extremely draconian punishments for all sex offenders, especially where kids are involved…, but the ‘level’ of deviance should come in to play also. Don’t know all the facts but read he was a trained ‘child protection officer’? Fcuking death sentence for me.
  5. Was going to post this too. Amazing moment, Man U been my ‘English’ team since the ‘80’s. Remember watching this in a pub and the goal go in and my mates all jumping about and I just sat there almost stunned. Mate still ribs me about it till this day.
  6. Know nowt about weight lifting but that’s what I’m talking about.., something that makes you feel like you’ve witnessed greatness…, and will live with you forever. Sport at its best.
  7. Watched that live too, unbelievable grit to carry on.
  8. Pretty sure the game wasn’t a classic but the moment was enormous. I was on holiday in the highlands with the missus and two very young kids, in a sweet shop where they had the game on the radio. I knew Murray was close to the finish line and so I apologised to my missus and set off at a sprint to a packed hotel bar at the other end of the village. I had to see it live. Incredible scenes in the bar.
  9. I’m too young to have watched them live. There have been loads obviously but top of my head some of the best fights I’ve watched live might be Benn v McClelland, Morales v Barrera.., and a domestic fight between Jamie Moore and Matt Macklin.
  10. The absolute genius of this registered with me immediately and before I seen all the angles.
  11. I can’t spake either Wayne
  12. Tiger imperious and in his absolute pomp 2005 Masters
  13. Like a lot on here I love a bit of sport, and what I probably enjoy most are those precious moments which have the hair stand up on the back of your neck or get you up on your feet…, and where you realise that you’re witnessing greatness in real time. By greatness I mean not only an individual’s talent, but maybe a team that achieved immortality by doing something great. What are yours?
  14. The Imitation Game about Alan Turing and breaking the Enigma code. Thought it was excellent.
  15. A fair point but maybe the key word is ‘understandable’. Like I said, I don’t understand why someone who’d been raped wouldn’t go straight to the law and demand justice.., yet it happens. Al Fayed might have dozens of victims, there was a Chinese student recently may also have dozens. They can’t all be gold digging surely, so why don’t they come forward sooner? I also think it’s difficult for men to comprehend the effect rape has on a woman. They are wired different to us, and much more sensitive and delicate in their make up. My sister in law worked in a rape centre and some of the stuff
  16. I’ve been sceptical in the past of women coming out with allegations of historic abuse, thinking why now, and not at the time? More recently, especially with cases like Savile, Barry Bennell etc. where maybe only a handful of victims came forward at the time, but the numbers of girls and boys assaulted ran into hundreds, even thousands, I realise that I really have no clue about the impact that kind of assault must have, or what courage it must take to call it out. I only hope it’s easier now. Regards Brand, he’s always been a dick, full of his own importance…, and never more so than with
  17. Going to peak at 9’C here over the weekend with a strong Easterly, so it’ll feel bitter. Can safely say the BBQ won’t be needing cleaned.
  18. Usually mid-April up here but the weather’s been fair if not still a bit chilly, so might be a few kicking about by now.
  19. I agree that even engaging and giving oxygen to some of this lunacy should be avoided wherever possible. I pity those at the sharp end though, whether it be sportsmen/ women or the sports governing bodies having to deal with trans athletes, BLM etc. Careers, businesses, reputations all in jeopardy if you dare question the narrative of those forcing this sh!t upon us, and even if you wanted to keep quiet, then by not speaking out you’re accused of ‘unconscious bias’ and of being a trans-phobe, racist etc. The w4nkers and thought police peddling this sailed in under a banner for equa
  20. Love the last Sunday in March when the clocks go forward. Finally feels like the long dark winter is behind now.
  21. If Christianity is to survive, it needs to start burning the perpetrators of these heinous crimes at the stake.
  22. ..where have they gone. I’m sitting in shopping centre in Liverpool watching the world go by whilst my missus spends the kid’s inheritance. Liverpool must be the lip-filler capital of the world! Everyone, including teenage girls sporting a perma-pout. And anyone over maybe 30 has a shiny as fcuk boat with no actual lines/features that give a face its character and individuality. I always liked a natural look on a girl and even a kind of ‘quirky’ look (think young Helena Bonham Carter), none of the bottle blonde and too much slap. This place is like being in the twilight zone. How the fe
  23. A small victory for freedom of speech and common sense? I guess for an academic with resource it’s actually pretty easy to destroy the legitimacy of some of the extreme liberal agendas being embedded across society in general, but especially within the education system. Pity it seems there’s no-one carrying the same fight into the junior and high schools where kids are being brain washed or brow beaten into believing all sorts of freak shows are to be accepted or even encouraged…, and that any attempt to question or disagree will be treated as a ‘hate crime’. University o
  24. Had similar using the cheap wooden ones where the bait is cleaned right off the catch. Also had an issue using them in the garage with woodlice eating peanut butter right off them.
  25. I still have the oil stone in the box I made as an apprentice over 35 years ago.
