Been strong winds since before dawn. Meant to peak at nearly 90mph about lunchtime. Missus said “it’s getting like there’s a storm every other week” I said “there is now they give them all names”. Before all that we used to just call it winter. We’ll survive.

For me and those of my generation, I’d say Dalglish is the best ever. Beats me how he never won a Ballon d’or. Funny I remember a conversation with my old fella over 30 years ago when King Kenny’s career was coming to an end and me saying he was the best Scottish player of all time, and my dad said “that’s cos you never seen the lawman”.

Not sure miners would have been so willing to weigh in after ‘84, and Orgreave etc. As for nowadays, people are more likely to stand by filming with their phones. Who’d be a copper now? Public have zero respect for them. You rarely see them compared to when I was young, and when you do it’s two 5 foot nothing, slightly overweight young women getting out a van at McD’s, and who look like they’re weighed down by the uniform (PPE) and all the shit they have to carry. The way some young people speak. Not just the slang words that I don’t understand, they’ve always been about, but just the way some talk. Treated myself to a bacon roll at the bakers this morning. When the 20 something year old server put the roll down and asked if that was all, I pointed to the bottle of juice I’d placed right in front of him on the counter, to which he said “oh, and a cheeky wee bottle of coke zero”. Now, if I’d just tipped a miniature of whisky into it then fair enough, but I didn’t, so what the fcuk? No need for it.

Sympathy obviously for those that have died, but a lot worse sh!t going on elsewhere in the world right now. Incidentally, given the change in climate and that it now appears huge chunks of the US, Europe and Australia are effectively turned into gigantic tinderboxes every couple of years.., and the astronomic financial damage which is done when they go up…, isn’t that a fcuking open goal to anyone looking to harm said places?

My old fella used to take me with him when he did a bit of rough shooting and fishing regular back in the 70’s. I still remember one particularly cold and wet day shooting and getting home and my brother telling me I’d missed the muppet show. I was gutted. Next week I never went as I didn’t want to miss the muppets. I must have been about five. Never went shooting with him again.

Have to say Littler is certainly not getting any littler.., and is in really poor nick for a lad of only 17. I reckon the lifestyle of a pro darts player won’t be good for him either.., staying/eating in hotels etc. all the time and there might be trouble down the road for him.., especially once he can drink legally. Hope he works it out as I think he’s a generational talent and brilliant for the game. Remember a few years ago there was a campaign to get darts into the olympics. Jesus wept.

I’ve no intention of ever stripping down and rebuilding a motorbike engine but could watch this guy doing it for hours. Fascinating.

MVG sloppy but had chances but couldn’t finish when it counted. Littler did what he needed to do without needing top gear. Well deserved. The one thing that stands out with Littler, other than the quality darts he plays, is that there’s not even a twitch as he gets close to the line. Going to be tough to beat for the next fcuk knows how many years!

Fingers crossed that both players turn up with their best darts tonight. Could be an absolute barn stormer. I’ve bet the nuke to win 7-5 but don’t care who wins as long as we get a spectacle.

MVG played very well and IF he can keep it up should be too strong for Dobey. Littler was phenomenal there.., and I still think there’s a gear or two more. Hopefully all four players turn up with their ‘A’ games and we get two cracking semi finals.

Been to the street party a few times back in the day. Folks come from all over the world for it. Some pretty disgruntled punters tonight. Public transport in and out of Edinburgh is a shambles at the best of times, add in the holiday and a bit of bad weather it’s a recipe for disaster.

Too many breaks between sets.., in my opinion disrupts the flow of play and probably to the detriment of the game. For me the best games are fast and ebb and flow with both players trading scores and legs like heavyweight boxers. Not liking it at all.

That’s me on a roll now. Another pet hate is the massive increase in TV ads for charities at this time of year. It’s fcuking relentless.
