  1. That's a fantastic effort. I guess they were just happy to be out in the open rather than being drowned slowly underground! Just shows what can be accomplished if you're willing to put the effort in to reach out and touch new farmers (ahem). Are you selling the meat on or are you your family and friends' new bezzie mate and pushing it on. Either that or you could do a Man v Food style challenge. 60 rabbits baked in a pie, cooked in a commercial oven and have 45 minutes to finish it... Aww heck I've gone all hungry now...snack time. Nice one again.
  2. Interesting segment in Fieldsport Channel's new Airgun programme 'Airheads' where Roy Lupton was testing the Accupell vs Verminpell if I remember correctly. Worth a look, especially to see the way they perform on the range in bad weather.
  3. If that's a mark levelled against me or the information I wrote down then I'd be grateful if you could elaborate. As far as I'm aware what I typed is correct but I'm more than happy to be corrected / realigned. As it stands it's not a great post that's adding any value to the thread.
  4. Not on my air rifle and no more than a couple of clicks on my rimfire on my last outing. Always check on paper before doing anything so it's not an issue.
  5. Depends on what type you buy. Some are takedown models that will fit into a rucksack, others have 14-22" barrels. I don't store a rifle with a moderator on it anyway but my Ruger 10/22 is shorter than my shotguns and I don't have an issue with it lengthways. Just remember as it will more than likely have a scope you need to be careful that you've got enough room in your cabinet as it will take up more depth than a 12 bore.
  6. you need to be able to store the ammo in a separate secure cabinet this can be internally in the cabinet or an external safe Was thinking of using one of the small code and key safes for ammo fastened in a separate room of the house So can I use my homemade safe if the ammo is stored somewhere else.? If the police think your safe is fine for the shotgun and granted you a licence as long as nothing has changed then they can't chuck their toys out of the pram with any FAC request you make. I picked up a cheap digital safe for my ammo and my gun cabinet isn't the best I've ever
  7. i dont really get what you mean?,just stalking and laying in wait with the air rifle. Just wondered who has asked you to get rid of them, what problems they're causing and what other options you've considered before shooting them? As far as I'm aware it's not just sufficient to say I don't like Magpies and look to stalk them with an air rifle in some woods near your house. You need to demonstrate there's an issue and what you're doing about it in accordance with the General Licences (whichever one you have decided is appropriate in this situation). All birds are protected by law and
  8. What other options have you tried to get rid of them?
  9. Thank you sir. Had a few minutes on my hands so hope it helps the OP. Probably a bit too much information but people can always pick and choose what they want to read from it. As it came from the police I'm pretty confident as to the accuracy of the content - nothing worse than people presenting their opinions or thoughts as facts and others being misled as a result.
  10. 18 is fine. Quick google search threw this up (coincidentally my local force's firearms page) A person under eighteen is prohibited by Firearms Act (Amendment) Regulations 2010, No 1759 from purchasing or hiring any firearm or ammunition as defined by section 1 of the 1968 Act and a shot gun and ammunition as defined by section 2 of the 1968 Act Age restrictions apply as follows: Under 14 years CAN CAN hold a shotgun certificate CANNOT CANNOT hold a firearm certificate CANNOT purchase or hire shotguns or ammunition until 18 years old (Even if the holder of a relevant certificate) CANN
  11. calibre is say 17hmr type would be....bolt action rifle or semi auto etc As he said... In addition to this I put the action type on my form (have 2 x .22lr and wanted one semi and one bolt action) but the licence doesn't reflect this, it just states .22lr so they obviously don't seem too fussy about this. I had a separate form for my permission - top half was for my club to fill out and bottom was for the farmer. Covered both elements in one easy piece of paper - just google it and you should find a template. Good luck!
  12. Your post inspired me to go looking and I found this which seems appealing. If a second hand .243 doesn't float my boat then I'd seriously consider picking this one up as it saves the hassle of hunting around for the various components. Considering I wouldn't be using the rifle all that often, spending a small fortune on a set up just wouldn't wash economically for me and I'd have the confidence that this package would be more than fit for purpose. There are a few distributors that aren't a million miles away but I love the idea of a nice day out and trying before buying.
  13. Missed 8 out of 50 clays on Sunday morning but can honestly put 3 of them down to my mind being elsewhere. Rifle wise I rarely miss as long as I've zeroed immediately prior to the session. I tended to miss more earlier on in my shooting but that was more about thinking about the shot placement and nerves around stuffing up and wounding the animal. I tend to find when I shoot on instinct it's better for me and my quarry.
  14. You've got to be open and honest with them. They're looking to see you're a responsible person and getting caught speeding a couple of times can be excused as momentary lapses in an otherwise good character. Let's be honest, pretty much everyone speeds it's just some people are better at not getting caught They will already know any brushes you've had with them and they're looking to see if you will be straight up with them. Should be an easy enough discussion, not so much if they're the ones that bring it up and ask you why you felt the need to lie on your application. For a shotg
  15. I'm sure many others will also come on and tell you that the most important factor is how the gun fits you rather than the brand or cost. I've got a Lanber that fits me like a glove and it feels so comfortable that I wouldn't replace it with guns ten times the cost. Crucial thing is to get out to the shops and try them for fit and how they feel in your hand. Get on GunTrader to find ones available in your local area (and a list of dealers) and that should give you an indication of what you could get for your budget, but please don't be blinded by brands or shiny barrels, it means bu
  16. Love the Silhouette and if I hadn't just picked up a Ruger 10/22 then I'd have the cash for this and I'd be knocking on your door right now. Actually prefer the CZ over the Ruger but the chap I was talking to before didn't look as though he was going to sell his 16" CZ and a good value Ruger International came up. Still have a spare slot for a .22lr so if some Christmas cash comes up and it's still around then I'll give you a nudge! Now, if only some good value .223 and .243s would also magically appear.. Love the collection by the way
  17. Thanks all, had an email from Elspeth on Friday confirming membership being processed and pack will be with me in 7-10 days. Love the cover and as long as the price is sustainable for SACS then I plan to stay for the foreseeable future. Top thread and excellent affinity proposition, good to see an insurer / group reward a bunch of like minded peeps. Thanks, Chuck
  18. did you quote the hunting life club and receive the discount? I submitted the club app online and the only relevant space I saw to enter 'The Hunting Life Club' was in the 'Company' field of the application. Didn't think too much of the application process to be honest but it was functional and facilitated my app and payment. They took the £26 but I haven't received anything back from them to confirm this, just a paypal receipt. If they don't confirm things during normal business hours and it presents an issue for them I can always ask them to refund the money and pop across to BAS
  19. Done and dusted. Just signed up and looking forward to receiving the details.
  20. i can confirm the following, sacs insurance does cover indoor and outdoor ranges, email received 03/12/13 If you are able please confirm to the Hunting Life that SACS public liability insurance does cover you for outdoor and indoor rifle range recreational shooting. Cheers, Alex Alex Stoddart Assistant Director Scottish Association for Country Sports Netherholm Netherburn Larkhall Lanarkshire ML9 3DG Paulus, I'm very grateful for your attention on this. Excellent to have the confirmation as work has been rather busy and I still hadn't had the chance to
  21. I totally understand the benefits of an FAC air rifle and how you can hunt quarry in more confined areas than with a .22lr and with less chance of ricochet so I wouldn't argue that it doesn't have a place in the overall lineup for consideration. I still feel that the lr option offers greater versatility (wider selection of manufacturer, gun style and action) and also I believe less affected by wind when hunting outdoors than a pellet. I also shoot on the range with some FAC air holders and the noise difference is negligible between the two with moderators in place, plus I can put as many
  22. Yeah, they seem to have pretty comprehensive cover a la the Countryside Alliance I'm with at the moment (well, technically expired last night). If they don't then BASC is my alternative. ta, Chuck
  23. Just give them a phone and ask the only thing im aware of just now is if its a paying job that invalidates the current offer Cool, more than happy to give them a buzz but was a bit busy yesterday and thought I'd put the feelers out to the member base / posters on here. I'll give them a buzz on Monday and hopefully they'll cover me down the ranges too. If they will then I'll sign up and even more of a bonus if I can take advantage of the discount negotiated with this site. cheers.
  24. Worth considering that .22lr usually works out cheaper and more versatile when compared to FAC air. You'll be able to pick up a rifle from £50 upwards and ammo is very cheap. With an FAC rifle you'll spend a fair whack on the kit and usually have to carry an air tank to your permission to top up if you're taking a few shots. You may have more trouble shifting an FAC air rifle than the .22lr (as they're a bit more specialist) if you decide you don't get on with it leading to a financial loss or it sitting in your cabinet taking up a slot on your ticket for longer than anticipated.
