  1. It's ace when the locals have something on a good price but it seems to be a rarity nowadays. I'll always call to check what they have and their prices before buying anywhere else which gives them the opportunity to take the business if they want it. I'm not mercenary enough to squeeze them down to the last penny and I'm happy to pay a little over what I can get it for on another reputable online retailer. I've found an MTC Mama that I'm going to buy on Monday / Tuesday. Limited distribution and my local retailer in Cirencester has them for just shy of £240 where Uttings has then for £2
  2. I prefer to try but my local shop has a scope for £86 when the nasty boys at the SGC have it for £49.99. I asked about any discount to get a bit closer and he told me that it was already discounted enough and bade me goodbye. I don't mind paying a little more but that difference is too much to overlook.
  3. You really just need to have a look at all the options available, including the policy documents and make your own decision. What's good for us might not be suitable for you. Whichever company offers the right level of cover for your field / target activities will be the right company. If that's more than one then price is a relevant factor. Happy shopping
  4. Hell yeah, you don't want two sets of application fees then the hassle of renewals and associated costs for each licence. Use the money you save on a nice double licence holder from Amazon
  5. Think Sean coordinates the dates with Martin at Hollow Fosse to ensure there isn't a clash on the clay shooting side. I can totally understand why he does it. The layout for the clays is poor with no real challenge and due to the lack of space it can get a little hairy when you've got people swinging their guns about and a load of people queuing at the stands. I've had a go on the HFT side and that's a far better set up than the clays but it's just a shame it's all so cramped. if you think the hft set up is better than the clays then they must be dire, we`ve had two meets there and t
  6. The S510 is easier to cock (can be done with one finger) and will result in less movement which is a bonus when trying to stay as 'on target' as possible.

  8. Great way to be. When I've been between company cars I just pick up a cheap runaround and don't care what happens to it. Just before I started my current job I had a BMW 323i Touring which was a great drive and swallowed a fair bit of kit and I didn't care what happened to it. Bought for £500 and sold for £500 six months later... Best value motoring you can get.
  9. They are charging £10 for 20 shots with these types at a new stand in the Shooting Show this weekend. I haven't shot one myself (and wouldn't dream of paying that money to have a go on a rimfire) but a chap at my club has one. His cards look more like he's had a go with a shotgun than a rifle and he gets the **** ripped out of him for his Rambo gun but he's happy enough. As he says, it's his choice but he won't use it for competition cards.
  10. Nice one, I've got an A6 3.0 V6TDI S line. Great sized boot for a saloon and plenty of legroom for passengers. It's not a bad motor at all, not great on the farms but nippy enough to get me between them in good time. Plus white isn't a good look this time of year but you'll be cleaning it every other day anyway being a new motor
  11. A .243 would be more versatile calibre for your foxing and deer interests. Just ensure you mention both on your application, you can't expect them to grant for deer shooting if you don't ask for it I got both calibres on my first FAC without having to do the DSC1 first. I stated that I wanted to do it and they added a condition that I stalk with an experienced person until I've passed it. Nice and easy Don't fret about what may or my not happen or go on the strength of what a page full of people say on a forum. Get your app in with the right wording and get the ball rolling...
  12. I've got one for my Howa .243 and also use it on my .223. Works well but you certainly know it's on the end of the barrel when you've been across a few fields. Just got to figure out how to clean it now as I'm not too sure the last owner was that fastidious with their maintenance.
  13. Could be worth joining a local air/rimfire club and then making friends and potential wider shooting opportunities from there. It's amazing what you can pick up when you're talking and shooting with like minded people. You can practice and hone your skills in the meantime as well - plus the competitions offer some good entertainment and rivalry when the weather is bad (like for the past few weeks).
  14. Not much that close round here I'm afraid, shame really as we've got some cracking land. There's a centre fire range in Kemble (Corinium Rifle Range) and as mentioned before a rimfire club in Devizes. There's a centre fire range out at Severnside, just the other side of the Severn bridge. There are other rimfire clubs but they're about 25-45 miles away although I've heard of one in Chippenham but haven't investigated that one as another poster said they had quite a backlog for applications.
  15. S510 all the way. The cocking mechanism is a lot easier to operate (can do it with one finger) which means there's less disruption to you and you can stay on target more easily in the field and down the range. Less movement also means you can remain still and therefore a bit more stealthy if needed. Love mine to bits and worth the extra pennies in my book.
  16. How has it changed and when did it start to happen?
  17. What's wrong with the way it is now? It's not really changes that much in ages, still a knockout competition with rounds placed about the same time each season and a final in May. Were they trying to fill time in their show?
  18. I'd put it flush if I were you. No point installing and then risk not having it passed by the FEO which means he'd just have to come back out and add further delays to your application. The safes aren't impregnable and Nik_B is right - it would be far easier to rip it off the walls. As you've spotted that the safe could be vulnerable you can bet your FEO would make the same judgement and then that's just a ball ache to rebook and sort out. Better 30 mins sorting now than two weeks of delays.
  19. Mine isn't. It's on a wooden platform to help raise it to the same level of the skirting board and therefore more secure against the rear wall. FEO liked the job my Brother-in-Law did and signed it off without any fuss whatsoever.
  20. There have been a number of threads about this on other shooting forums and the general consensus is that it isn't legal for them to force you down this route. Have a look at this on the BASC website and check their position on it as I understand they're challenging any force that tries to insist that the applicant bears the cost. I guess you're probably not wanting to rock the boat and potentially mark your card before your interview but see if you can get some guidance on this as the application should cost you £50 and it's up to the force to cover any additional fees as per other appli

  22. . I wont laugh but do me a favoir mate when fergi joined utd name the team sqaud , then name the team sqaud and value of what pop eye has inherited think you will find there will be a slightly differant situation Both managers inherited some great and crap players. Moyes needs to do a rebuilding job just as Fergie did in the eighties as he took over a team past it's best. Values are incomparable as it's a different animal now but there is the foundation of a solid first XI in both squads, nothing more than that though. On both occasions some serious money needs to be spent and it i
  23. Haha, I wouldn't take anything football related from a paper that is basically a woman's gossip magazine in newspaper format.
  24. Moyes' initial record at United is stronger than Fergie's. Unfortunately with the sensationalism of the media and the overwhelming pressure to generate results to keep sponsors, business partners and shareholders happy it all turns into a big circus which adds even more pressure on to the manager and the team.
  25. Have you checked to see if they've cashed your cheque? Nothing wrong with a polite call to check everything is ok. Even if you tell them you're trying to organise your diary over the next couple of weeks and would like to sort a date for the interview. Yes, they're important and you wouldn't want to piss them off but you're a customer in this process and a polite enquiry wouldn't hurt anything at all. Cheers,
