  1. My best day this season was my smallest bag and shortest time out, her indoors was watchin some crap on the tele so me n me boy whent out for 2hours and got two rabbits, but the weather was perfect, we was out and about, and I think I saw somthing click into place with my lad, it was great!
  2. Aye. And when it goes right. Nets down as the sun is rising, grass still crisp with frost. Clean bolts, nice pursing after a short rumble. No digs, no squeals of a pinned rabbit, no ferrets messing around. Just being out is good enough for me though. couldent of said it better its a sense over load that makes you feel alive!!!!!!

  5. thanks he did a little at the back end of last season but he's come into his own this year, I dont know how I managed without him to be honest........ Only thing is he's too brave for his own good, about 100 yards to the left of this warren he found a huge badger set and started baying down the holes! Im glad he didnt go down b I got him on his lead other wise I'd of been going to jail for digging me dog out!!!!
  6. A very good warren, it was about 30 foot in diameter about 20 holes deeper than the locator would go and held a lot of bunnies

  12. Ive seen the post's in the pic of diggin dog thread is all and there all thick set mean lookin terrier's is the fact that he's game for a bit enough?
  13. Already on that one, soon as he did it I thought off the ferret collar thing..... My point is though one my dog isnt at full health yet and I dont particularly want him going down at all it's just with the nature of the work I have him doing, are these sign's he's gunna go down as he gets older(he's only just 1yo) and will a small jack hold his own till I get him out???
  14. he picked right up as soon as he started on the antibiotics was his first walk in a week n half the farmers field back on to my house and just took him for a mooch to see if he'd mark anything
  15. im not sure what you mean dont forget ive never dug a fox n dont know what im doing the dog looked pretty game for a pop at one though and now im going to have to lead him up all the time till I can aford a collar..... My main concern is how do I know my dog is strong enough to take on a fox if he enters when he's bushing for me(wich is what I use him for) ill get the collar for insurance but theres to many unanswered variables for me to feel comfortable with him off his lead wich I need to do for him to work!
  16. I was out ferreting today with me jack, I say ferreting was really just a walk as there was nothing home, just as I was walking back home the dog started marking up when I got to him it was a fox earth, ive seen it befor but the dog normaly dossent bother with it, this time was different he started digging at the mouth of the opening and baying he dug enough to start squeezing in but I pulled him out and stuck him on his lead, is this the onset of my dog going to ground????? Or is it inquisitiveness??? Will my dog eventually go to ground totally of his own accord???? And if he did would a sho
  17. so does this mean my jack will inevitably go to ground in the end? I thought they would only go if they was digging stock......
  18. You know what your right! Your sport is very appealing but to start from scratch in what is another full time endevour is propbly not the right thing to do, where as a beddy whipet would just strengthen my team and broaden my abillity to help out on the farms. Thanks everyone who commented it was all constructive and helpfull this Time
  19. Sound advice guy's..... Even if I get to tag along with the fox man and I find its not for me I could be tempted down the lurcher route, or possibly another jack there so much fun when ratting does any one know who or where I should be looking for a good dog of either type?
  20. Yes its true im very wet behind the ears when it comes to terrier's but ive always been out in the field doing one thing or another I dont take my decision lightly I will not buy another dog untill I feel confident I can do the best by it. I do a lot of ferreting for a few of farmers but have just recently secured 750 acers witch after a good few outing and building a repour with the farmer lead him to introduceing me to his neighbors and friends I now have well over 2000 acers, and all sorts of jobs they are coming up with theres a lot of ratting a hell of a lot of ferreting and they are in
