  1. If not someone there or in your local gun shop might know of someone and have an idea of their workmanship?
  2. It is a good old photo by the way, makes you feel all nostalgic even though its before most of us were born and we didn't know any of them, unless someone does know of them? Could be an interesting story somewhere in that photo??
  3. I'll guess first,to carry the rabbits on?? Presumably they expected to catch a lot if they were all working the same land?
  4. Is your local gunsmith worth an ask?
  5. Hopefully you'll get some of the joy of the experience through your grandson, something to chat about that you both presumably have a passion for, good luck with it and maybe updates and pics would make interesting future posts...
  6. Had a 97 before and regret letting it go,it's on my shortlist for sure just waiting for some spare pennies and then I'll be out shopping...
  7. Possibly the hw97k,in.22,although the tx200hc,in.22,is as good... Difficult question and the list will be long and varied me thinks!!
  8. Good thread with some good posts, enjoyed reading this one,and it didn't turn into an argument!!
  9. That's a good confidence building exercise you had there Mac,did you not fancy eating the squirrel as well? Nice bit of meat, just small portions! Gotta get me a springer soon...
  10. Some good results from a set up you are confident with, sounds like you do a fair amount of challenging shooting and have found a rig you have 100% confidence in and clearly reap the benefits, another chance to sing the praises of the .177!! Could start a pissing contest...
  11. That's the way to unwind and get away from it all, especially when you've not been able to go for whatever reason,I know the feeling all too well myself at the minute!! Appreciated all the more when you've been itching to get out and I bet you had a big smile on your face carrying them buggers back to the car!...

    Long Day

Now your getting the best from it you will be glad no one wanted it and will have some fun using it yourself, its clearly a capable tool and another option when you are standing there with your hand hovering over the cabinet trying to decide...
  13. Good session, always nice to bag a good handful, what sort of ranges do you shoot at on the courses,I used to go lamping on one and found most shots tended to be quite far as they always seem to pop up on the opposite side of the fairways!!
  14. Good to hear that a good old break barrel springer has made such a good first impression, sounds like its a good one and you are enjoying it,could be a bit of quarry about to to bow to it in the near future then??
  15. You're on for a hat trick of not my night's now Mac!! Take a step back with a nice cuppa and relax man,you are getting all worked up over this calibre thing for nothing, use .22 for a bit and put it behind you, simple! Don't be so quick to dismiss knitting though, could be a good plan b!!
  16. Good "come back" post,as it looks like that's what we are going with! Nice shooting though, good session with a few different quarry, nice one...
  17. Good going there, nice bag and defo worth being out in the wet for, sounds as if you are liking those rapids as well...
  18. Good day out then, nice to get the kids out and about however we can and if they take an interest then all the better, sounds a good day and nice way to explore a new perm and get to know a new rifle, this could be the first of many such trips for you and some good hunting trips and memories made...
  19. More or less my view on it,we naturally feel sympathy, empathy and compassion as part of being human, but we shouldn't feel guilty about killing, its part of nature, the circle of life, our intelligence is both a gift and a curse sometimes!
  20. Those quick trips out that end with a rabbit are worth taking, and telling about, after all its a kill!! and a pic to show it off! nice one...
  21. Am I right in thinking you have a pro sport and an r10? Keep and use both as much as possible, work on the negative points,if any,on both and take them out alternately,or dedicate each a certain job, then you have the best of both worlds with two of the best rifles? I am looking to get a good springer to go with my hw100,hopefully fairly soon,to be in the position I described, pretty much but you know how things change!but I wouldn't get rid of the r10 until I'd thought long and hard...
  22. Agree with the last point there simon,a good shot is someone who can hit a given target at differing distance and elevation in different conditions etc, rather than someone who consistently hits a can at 60 yards plus over and over, the varied shots would put more game in the bag I would expect??
  23. I don't go any more than around 40 because that's about as far as I can keep a tight group, most are more like 30/35 I would say,I have taken rabbit cleanly at over fifty but don't attempt it often as my confidence is closer although I know I can do it if I so choose...
