Let's See Everyone's Pups For This Season

[ Here's my pup, 14 month old, 25tts, sulukixwhippet X whippetxgrey coming on nicely just a bit keen at the moment but got all the makings of a cracking dog. -
Way to many sets for me to get a terrier that would fit to ground, I'm wanting a bigger terrier breed with a bit of tenacity to make it want to enter the thick stuff. I'll see what the wheaten is like it wont be a stupid price and if it turns out like the parents it'll be worth the few extra quid, still open to suggestions... Thanks andrew.

He's always worked well for me and makes a great family dog as well, sometimes will hunt up in front to far but he's pretty good with the whistle so he's easy brought back. Any other terrier ideas? Don't want to rush into a wheaten but better the devil you know and what not. Thanks andrew.

Yeh I know what your getting at WM but I got the weim more for taking running/biking and family pet (mam and dad love the breed and I was living more at home when we decided to get a dog) he hunts like crazy and does everything and always puts a smile on my face, Don't believe all you read about weims they are bright as a button and keen as a bean... The dog is to come to work with me as I work away a lot I stop in a caravan near the forest (normally a farm) I get plenty opportunity for a mooch and ratting but not so much with the gun unless I go out with a friend on a weekend , the dog will m

Ah is that true? I'm not to clued up on them, non of my mates work them and very few even breed their dogs unless they are after pups themselves, basically all I can get from decent stock is the wheaten, was wanting something fast through tight bush like gauze and brambles ect (already got a weimaraner that will work everywhere else) Cheers for the replies, starting to rule the beddy out. Thanks Andrew.

Yeh I know a beddy will go to ground but very few actually do and even less are being bred for it! What would you suggest?

Morning people, looking for a terrier breed to work the thicker cover, I have the opportunity to get a wheaten from really good working lines and have seen the parents work they will fly into any cover/bush however I have been thinking of the jagd or beddlington terriers? (Kind of ruling out the jadg unless I can find a breeder for bore somewhere in Europe as they tend to be bigger and less chance of going to ground.. I don't really want to be pulling It out of every badger set I come near!! Which leads to my next question, as I don't know any beddlington breeders can anyone give me any inform

Honestly wouldn't if you and the dog don't know what your doing you could both end off in a pickle, if you need an earth checking get someone with the tool for the job..wouldn't used a screwdriver to bash a nail in would you? (Not saying she wouldn't do the job..just saying best off letting her stick to what she's known..) Thanks Andy.

That whole article is a joke but certainly didn't make me laugh! Lads doing the dig should have had a bit more savvy with all that is going on at the moment! Obvious the papers would jump all over this! Must have been a petting farm owner that they interviewed! Just want to think ourselves lucky they didn't interview some idiot in a hoody and trainers trying to rub his ego about how good his dogs are (nothing against hoodies and trainers just the arseholes that sometimes inhabit them) .. That will be next to portray everyone in an even worse light (tarred with the same brush and that) Don'

Depending who you know and where you are, finding a really decent pup from over here is even harder! And more costly in the long run/waste of effort... Not saying jadgs are any better, have to be just as careful either way...
-
Best of importing one, if your going to pay through the eyes for a pup (which you will) Get the best possible! Still trying to decide if I'm going to take the risk importing one myself.. So many things that could throw a spanner in the works, dog being to big/hard or just being numb altogether!

Think it comes down to a matter of standards, what one man thinks is a good dog another wouldn't waste his breath with, 800 euro per pup means less people will buy, less chance of the dog been bred just for money if the pups struggle to sell due to price...good and bad to that, less proper working dogs bred and more chance of losing this breed to the shows :/... Fingers crossed that the working lines that do get bred are from serious terrier men than won't breed just for the sake of it...
-
I hope they are all their cracked up to be I'll keep doing my research, I know some of the lads from aus like them because they have a decent nose...ATM there is a bit to much chance of a jadg being to big and keen for me to rush into getting one, hopefully someone on here works them often and can shed some light on how useful they could be in the uk or even someone breeding in the uk would have lines better suited for over here...

why people are scared to try something they know little about? its cost's a bomb and is definetly not guaranteed to work any better than what i have now no matter what you think! i work hard for my money and am not about to start throwing it about on the offchance of getting a decent dog! if you want to do that, you choice! i never have bought a terrier and doubt i ever will as i have mates with dogs that work hard and are tested all season, and have seen with my own eyes work! i have nothing against you trying something new, just i dont see the point if you have decent dogs about you already.
-
I agree with you! I would be very careful where I got a jadg from if I do decide to get one I would be making the trip overseas myself, make a holiday out of it.
-
Can't understand why people are scared to try something, and you'd think people had to sell there granny to make a wage on this website! Wonder how much a black dog would cost if they weren't everywhere!!! If you want a black dog then get one, I fancy trying something new for a change, it's about time with all these black dogs just getting bred left right and centre then being sold as top worker to worker pups ect, 800 euro or 650 quid isn't to bad for something that's a lot different to your standard uk earthdog bought from the right breeders overseas you can guarantee that the bloodline wi

Be nice if someone who owned a jagd to chime in, iv been thinking of getting a pup later this year, I can only find information on breeders websites which I feel could be hyped up to sell pups, "prey drive like no other" what are they really like for earthwork?? only videos I can seem to find are bore and they look far to keen for the job over here?... Anyone seen these work in the uk?

Wanted Working Terrier
Andrewevo6 replied to UcanRUNbutUcantHIDE's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
My Lurcher failed it's mot and the terriers have ran out of tax, nothing worse than having a dog off the road! Bump for the man who has to much land to hunt but grafts the roads instead... Only kidding pal, all the best finding the dog for the job! -

Just been pulled over on the way back from picking my lamp up from my brothers, pulled into a lay-by and give it a few flicks over the fields then drove on down the road! (Stupid thing to do but I didn't see the harm at the time)...next thing iv got a landrover stuck to my arseend following me down the road then came the police lights round the corner, i just pulled over straight away, after explaining what happened and having a bit banter about where I have permission ect they realised I was up to no harm...I think the no dogs/guns accompanied by the shorts and purple jumper might have been a

I was going to put a post up almost word for word apart from mines 11 month, picked the dog up for a bit of company for my 2 year old Weimaraner and picking up a few rabbits on the lamp... I wasn't promised that the dog was a top worker but was told he was keen and needed bringing on ...iv never come across a dog that's scared of the dark until I picked this little fella up! Don't even think he's even seen many a rabbit let alone course one... ..Anyway the dogs here to stay and I'm not giving up just because I was told a few pork pies, I dare say the person I bought him off was expecting just
