    The land i have is mixed arable with scatterd woodland, loads of rabbits and hares pheasants partridge, pigeon crow everything reaaly, mentor has experiance with, kestrel, barn owl, buzzard, eagle owl, over 40 years experiance, flown eagle owl at fox, i prefer the look of the harris personally myself

    Ye thats the problem, i really like harrises but my friend who would be my mentor has no experiance of them, my nephew on the other hand worked a few years at a falconry centre andhe says i should get a redtail, more research needed i think

    Completely agree crowhawker, she doesnt have birds anymore hence why i posted about mentor the other day, to get the hands on experiance, wouldnt spend 2-300 pound on a bird to watch it f##k off and not be able t find it,

    Ye i no, on my point of view though i love the look of the harris, and from what ive read and research the harris seems to be more of an allrounder, looks arent important though as long as they do the job, will a red do better on hares than a female harris then??

    S i have a friend that during her life has owned barn owls buzzard eagle owls etc all trained to the fist, if say i ask her to help me train a red tail/harris hawk will her knowledge be alrite for this or are they completely different and may she cum unstuck, thanks

    Hi, i was wondering if anyone from north yorkshire would be able to do me the pleasure of showing me the ropes in falconry, i am 26 and this isnt just on a whim, any replies would be fantastic just looking for some hands on experiance, i have permission with rabbits, and other game etc that we could hunt over, will travel also, i am from York, i had something organised but got let down, thanks

    Saluki x greyhound couldn't really fault him, would do everything except fox to a good standard unfortunately died just before he turned 3

    Didn't no if i was wording it wrong, so thought i'd look up tool in the dictionary, The definition goes: Something that helps you do a particular activity. Or a 'tool of the trade' Something you need to use to do a job. Well the first definition i think applies to whatever your running with your dogs if its just for sport, and the second definition i think applies to them being used for pest control as that is a job.... Not sure how using that word to describe my dogs caused so much offence.. atb

    Its a tool to me, for pest control, doesn't mean it gets treated bad, how does it look a young dog??

    hahaha, my dogs get nurtured countless miles each day, worked 4-5 nights a week plus during the day, they live in the kennel and come in the house, play with the kids, get spoiled by the missus, when i say tool they are, their there to do a job...

    Exactly, for example if you were getting a terrier on trial and say that trial was for a week, you wouldn't let it settle in for six days and take it on the last day, same i suppose with lurchers, as has been said there here for a reason, they are a tool, and up to now she's doing the business...

    what is wrong with you northernlite??? its a sad world that you can't trust anybody, he was a genuine bloke and i've had pms on here comfirming everything he said, lads that have seen the dog grow up, your right he could of been talking bull but you can only take people on face value, maybe i'm to trusting but dog got 4 out of 5 last night and just got back with her and she's killed 2 out of 2 that will do for me, thats the last time i will run them this season but she will gett plenty of rabbiting in, i think he was just a genuine bloke
