    I recued a ferret a few weeks back. The thing is he has strange eating habits. First of all he will not eat meat. Secondly he will not eat dry food until the point where he will bite your finger clean off than touch it and he is friendly when fed. He eventually got fed as i soaked the food in water until a mush and he ate a whole plate!. All the same with 4 different brands...? Could this be a sign of age ? He has all his teeth and i can't see any swelling in his mouth. I was thinking perhaps he was only fed on cat food or something simalar. He has had his nuts cut off at some point...

    Gentle Giant... Three months back i took a hob polecat of a good farmer i have known. It was handed to the farmer’s mother and so he took it on for her. 2 years back when he took it on it was just about the most veracious ferret you have ever come across but had been castrated. A really nasty bit of work. I give my mate a huge credit he calmed it and now it is the calmest ferret you will ever come across. Age is obviously 2 + but that’s all i know. He just never got round to hunting it, i know he wanted too but being a farmer he just never had the time but spent 5 minutes a day handling it

    i have always reared my ownkits but sold on any other kits, but a guy local to me i sold 2 too does not want them anymore and as he can't get a buyer said did i want them back. This is a new area for me other peoples handled kits? I could and probably will just go and handle them but before i do i thought i might ask some of you this. I know they have been handled fairly well and so should be not so nippy but would they behave differently to me. Everybody has their unique smell i know but even as long as the ferrets have been handled by humans should their reactions be the same. The poi

    Might be size of the Piccies in one post Tommo. Great piccies anyway. I am fortunate to have 3 outlets as in Butchers who i charch £2 -£3 depending on size. Also a few pet shops too. Many buy rabbits for their reptiles charging about £10 a rabbit...Incredible!!!!! Probably have got around £70 for that lot however in your case getting paid what happens to the rabbits afterwards can you keep or do they?

    Years back i went into a hunting shop that i had used for 20 years to buy my first rifle. I knew i would get an honest answer of HW V Daystate. With no hesitation HW came out. He went on to say that 2 out of 3 daystates he sells end up coming back faulty in the first few years. The HW very rarely a few and he sells more HW's. I have never used Daystate but that alone is a big pain in the butt risk on reliability and i really can't see how the Daystate out performs the HW so much that you can dismiss human ability.     You should get what is on the tin i know but i have had 3 of these MK3's (don't ask.. ) and i find it really is hard to get the exact depth they are just too fussy and over sensitive. As long as you get a rough idea on where to dig if you have to then that really is all that matters surely. The MK3 will never be accurate. it's a bit llike mobile phones for me , just give me one with basics and not a ruddy computer.... i wish Deben could have a competitor (perhaps they have?) as then their prices would be more competitive . £240 for one with 2 collars is a lot.     I in the main bolt rabbits for the hawk but enjoy netting too. but i agree with all the anticipation and getting to see the ferrets stretch their legs. I just love it when a ferret is on the scent scuttling around between holes or bobbing it's head up.....

    I have met some bloody awful falconers ( sorry would be falconers) and if they mentored me ( as some falconers like to be a teacher as it makes them feel important) on my first bird it would fly away or be dead within a week! Many find a falconer and think 'Yeah' he has a HH i will ask... I taught some of myself by books and i have yet over many many years to loose a bird but you also do need that on hands experience too but join the BHA and they will probably no who to put you in contact with not 'harry the harris hawker' from the high street

    That's up to you but if many beginners got off their arse and hanged around with a smart arse they might learn something. In America you have a 3 year apprenticeship with tests often , inspections the lot . 90% of falconers would not pass the first year because their ego would stop them from hanging around a smart arse.

    Hunting is an elite sport. Even fishing some struggle to find others to fish with. falconry is so elitest its next to impossible to get to fly with somebody however most don't prefering just to fly and not worry about others birds. And to get the land to fly on an almost impossible simply due to space and the mount you need. Many falconers and ferreters team up now as free flying a bird needs so much more land. Anyway as said again ferreting is elitist and land and other ferreters are hard to come by and land is ruddy scarce. I am on the Kent/Sussex borders and there are few ferreters down

    It is just meant to be a mildly amusing post. The mum is a great hunter and if she ain't ready will even tell the hob to F""K off. Takes no shite. Hopefully she can get it out of her. The other daughter of hers is fine but it seems this one is bit above her station with biting instead of nipping....

    Hard work mate and being mittens and all but it can be done as i have done it. But you do look a bit of a plonker in them.Its really just like stitching up two sides but remember to stuff a load of linen or similar in them while they dry.

    So the kit comes out nipping and biting it's fellow brothers and sisters and me. Thinks she is the dogs danglies, invincible. the king of the castle....LOL So i pops in Mum and the kit bites her as soon as her feet touch the deck expecting the usual backing off but not this time. Mum bites her back hard and little missy runs as fast as those paws can carry her and again mum jumps on her head and another bite. The siblings come up the stairs while the dogs danglies hides in the corner.. Don't you just love ferrets!........

    My mom's dog who she got when she was 7 years old growled and barked viciously at any black person. just one of those things. I am pretty sure the dog wasn't a racist though. she was after all black and tan colour herself... Some say it's because years back and even now they were guard dogs for them and got badly mis treated and they have senced that during time. Most of the time i walk any dog i have had passing a black person and the person really seems apprehensive and backs away. Does the dog sence fear in them or regognise their smell!     Sensing emotion is definitely most animals pick up on and when you think about it we do too. On the other hand kits usually bite in play and just nip but others really draw blood and to be honest i can't be done with a ferret or kit that i can't break out of this habit. biting ferrets that draw blood i don't believe what anyone says hurts in that short period of time and rummaging around netting i don't want blood dripping from my fingers. So i don't blame these guys and i still believe it is an odour they give over

    wet them and salt them and put in newspaper but not in a hot place. Then dampen up again and pin them up to dry in the wind but again not a hot place (makes them shrink too much). I have made rabbit and squirrel lures. If you really want some warm mittens go for squirrel skin....Last you a lifetime and well warm!
