A couple of NZ Stags behind wire for the cashed up show room hunters

The deer above is a genuine Wild Stag but there are allot of Safari Parks with Stags Bred predominately for Americans with too much money. While working trapping ferrets on a property neighboring a game reserve I watched a guy spend over 1hr stalking a Stag in the park, he got within about 100m and took 2 shots with a 30-06 for his trophy head. He was proud as punch.. I dove my Quad along the fence line each checking my traps could have easily shot that Stag or one of 20 others with my .22. It was a joke bit like shooting tin ducks at the show although at least the ducks are moving. I'

They have a full book of Ferals now.. possums and wallabies from oz, cats, rabbits, ferrets, stoats, weasels, rats, hedgehogs, goats, pigs, fallow, red wapiti, and other deer also Chamois and Thar from GB or the northern hemisphere. Moose were even introduced to fiordland but have either been shot out, died out or just vanished into bush. In hindsight most of the introductions were short sighted, does make for good hunting though. And plenty of work for budding pest controllers .

Yep some dope decided they'd go well there. NZ has no Native Land Mammals they've all been introduced.

Used the Victor trap in NZ for Possums although will catch, cats, rabbits, ferrets, rats, hedge hogs, small dogs, even caught a sheep in one once.

Agree I was shooting rabbits in NZ for pet food processors. Winchester subs were all round best value powerpoints were ok as well but reduced effectiveness of suppressor or silencer. Occasionally we'd get a sh#tty box chuck it and start on the next one. Sometimes subs didn't have enough charge to reload a semiauto action and would get a jam. -
Hi Jawn Did you end up crossing your Jagd to the Drahthaar?and how did they turn out? Cheers Steve No... not yet. I did attempt it but it didn't work out. Ill try again soon enough though. I know several breeders in the Czech Republic and Slovakia....but they speak very little English. If you are interested in attending an event I will ask them when the next one is.... and PM you the details. Thanks Jawn that would be great, I've only ever read about the Jagd and have been impressed so I'm keen to see them in action. I spent a bit of time in NZ with possum and ferret contro

cracker that mate, NZ sounds great place to hunt+live , is it hard to get in the country, if you dont have a trade.? my mate sister lives on the north side, but her fella is a carpenter (trade) thats how they got in .! i think they said if you got money to take over there its not to bad getting in .? I'm sure if only going for a holiday or hunting trip you should have no worries, if you are looking to immigrate there will be a set of criteria you have to meet but don't think NZ is that Strict details will be on the Nz govt immigration page. If you are under 31 or 35 depending on Nation

Great Thread Ned your keeping the rest of the world envious. Allot of people back home don't realise how lucky we have it in Oz when it comes to the outdoors and hunting. I'm not currently in OZ but have heard there have been some issue's with the r -licence and hunting on private and is that still the case, if so do you have any idea when it'll be resolved? Cheers

I'd presume it depends on on the record and possibly the nationality on your passport. NZ is not as strict as Australia when it comes to visa's. Here is a link should help you out http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/VisaFreeCountries.htm
