Thinking Of Getting A 2Nd Rifle
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I was under the impression that the hatsan brand is even more budget than the smk brand. Is this not the case? They seem to have mixed reviews. How come you can get them cheap? I should also add that another reason for me getting a cheaper budget gun is so I can learn how to fettle it and maybe tune it. I wouldn't want to start doing this on my 97!! So a budget end gun which is also tunable is desired. -

I have been keeping my eye out, not too many about, but I think even a 2nd hand Weihrauch is going to be more than I wanted to pay for a 2nd mucking about rifle. There are some decent reviews of these SMK's around, for example: http://www.sportsmk.co.uk/workspace/uploads/products-documents/xs19-18.pdf and http://www.sportsmk.co.uk/workspace/uploads/products-documents/smk20-gm-09-2012.pdf -

My 97 is quite twangy also, that's why I want to have it tuned. Are the BSA meteors any better? -
Thinking Of Getting A 2Nd Rifle

Yeah I got the best I could afford first time round after reading up advice on here and other forums. To be honest I love the 97 in resting positions but do struggle to stand with it due to the weight of it. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing to own a lighter rifle to practice standing with. Will there be a big difference in accuracy? I can maybe accept a difference in quality and looks as long as its still accurate? -
Hello all, I'm fairly new to airgunning but love it so far. My first and only rifle is a HW97KT in .177 caliber which I bought 2nd hand. Its great, and I'm getting better and better with it every time I take it out. The thing is that I can't help wanting a 2nd rifle, probably in .22 to try something different. I can't afford another £300+ rifle so I'm considering the SMK springers, something along the lines of the XS19 in .22 with a basic scope. Another reason for getting a 2nd rifle is that I'd like to get the 97 tuned by sfs, but as he keeps them 6 to 8 weeks I will need another rifl

I was going to buy the bisley 13.5 clamp set, also have a 97 and been told 13.5mm is the right size?? Does anyone have any views on the pellets fit thing? I think I should get it chrono'd again as a looser fitting pellet of the same mass could put me over, I was at 11.7 with the rws 4.51's. Does the combro chrono fit on a hw97k underlever rifle?

Hi all. I was using rws superfield in 4.51 until yesterday when I tried some aa diabolo field in 4.52. Surprisingly the aa in 4.52 are a looser fit than the rws in 4.51. Is this normal? Also I want to fit a sling. It looks fairly easy to do it myself but I have a synthetic stock, will the sling screws still screw in to this ok? Thanks.

Help To Work Out My Mildots Please
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I tested it at the club with bisley magnums (i think, they were over 10 grains anyway), and the power dropped to 10 something. This is the Si Pittaway video I watched, but he seems to have more options on the recticle view than the version of chairgun I have. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU3Rc5bVYjM -
Help To Work Out My Mildots Please
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hmm ive been trying different combinations. Can never get it so its 5 yards per half mil dot on both the holdover and holdunder. It's always lower on the holdunder. If I extend the zero range to 100 yards I can get 0.5 mildots per 5 yards for hold under, but only if I set the mag to 7.0x, which wouldn't be any good for such a long range. -

Thanks for doing this for me. I have been able to replicate it on my pc. How do I make it now so that the mildots are evenly spaced so each half mil dot is say 5 yards? -

dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hi. I do have the chairgun software and I know how to produce the trajectory curves, but not how to turn this into mildots or how to make each mildot x yards. The pellets I use are aa field .177 and the gun produces 11.7 ftlbs with these pellets. The scope is a 4 to 12 mag mounted 1.75 inches centrelines above the barrel. -
Help To Work Out My Mildots Please
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
The issue I have with the targets at the club is being able to see where my pellet has impacted, as obviously there are so many other people there. On the metal hft targets I can hardly ever spot my impact point. This is obviously making it hard to learn my mildots, which is why I wanted to use chairgun to give me some ballpark ideas. -
Help To Work Out My Mildots Please
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Appreciate the link but im not trying to estimate range using the mildots. Im trying to understand how many mildots holdover I need for a given (known) range. On si pitaways video (will post link later as im on mobile phone at the moment), he sets up his scope using chairgun so that every half mil dot is equal to 5 yards range. -
Help To Work Out My Mildots Please
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I dont have the ability to put out targets at set distances in my small garden and at the club the targets are already set out at unknown distances. I watched a si pitaway video on how to work out mildot distances using chairgun but the version I have seems to look different to his video so I cant figure it out. All I want to know is how many mildots to hold over at various distances. Its a .177 zerod at 33 yards ish. The scope is a 4-12x magnification. In the video I watched, si sets up his scope so that every half mil dot is 5 yards I think. And then apparantly you can print off -
Hi all, I need some help to work out what my mildot distances are please. I've tried using chairgun software and can't see how to do it. Thanks

Some Basic Question For Noob Please!
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks. Is it normal that these clubs only open once a week for a certain discipline? From looking at dudley rifle club website it seems to only do .22 rimfire on a wednesday and doesnt mention anything about weekends. -

Just read the blurb on the fifty cal shooters association website. At £2.50 to £5 a round I think that might be a bit out of my affordability league (by quite a way). Maybe back to 100m ranges then! Is there an easy way of finding local ranges? I'm in Dudley, West midlands. The club I was thinking about trying was Dudley Rifle Club but with only a 25m indoor range and I'd have liked to find somewhere with maybe a 100m outdoor range. -
Some Basic Question For Noob Please!

Seems like it would be alot easier to get an fac gun if I had a few acres to run around on rather than wanting to get involved in a sport discipline. Im getting the sense that I wont be able to just jump straight to very long range target sports? So joining the local 25m range and getting a .22lr is the best way to start? -
Some Basic Question For Noob Please!
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
What if there wasnt a club near me that had a range that long but I travelled a long distance every few months to use it? Or if I only travelled to competitions? Would I then need to be a member of the local club to also have a smaller range rifle to use at that one? So I'd need to join both clubs?? The logistics of it are confusing me. -
Some Basic Question For Noob Please!
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Anyone know of any long distance ranges around birmingham? Would I be allowed to have a 1000 yard capable gun when only a member of a 25 yard rifle club? Im not talking air rifles here either please. -

So .17hmr isnt more common for target shooting then like .177 pellets are for air rifle target? Are there places to go / clubs to join / competitions to enter where 300 to 1000 ranges exist and would I be allowed to get those calibers? -

dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the link but its a bit too much for my limited knowledge at the moment. It doesnt seem to mention the commonly quoted .22lr or .17 hmr terminology. I could do with just a basic overview of the calibers and what distance target shooting I can do with them? -
Some Basic Question For Noob Please!
dangerousdan replied to dangerousdan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Hi. Thanks. As I said im not swayed towards air at all its just that I dont know anything about proper firearms. In my question 5 above, if I joined a club and got my fac then got a .22 rimfire, could I then go and shoot in competitions in different locations? Do you always need to join a club as a member before you can shoot there? It could get expensive if I wanted to rotate between different clubs. My local club has a 25m range but I can shoot this range with my air rifle. Really I'd like to be doing from 100m at least up to...well anywhere really. 500m target shooting is that reali -

Hi. Thanks. I do know what .22 and .177 air gun pellet calibers are, but I didnt know about all the available rimfire and centrefire calibers. Cant seem to find a guide to all the calibers. I'm not specifically asking about fac air, I'm asking about fac guns in general. If fac air is not a well recognised area then I wouldn't persue that. In your answer about competitions are you just referring to fac air or fac guns in general? I meant fac in general in my questions. And yes there is a local rifle club but im trying to learn more about it before I commit to the expense. I
