Mines 9 months old I took him out last night close slips 5 slips 4 rabbits back to hand can't fault him at all. Give him a go mate

What I'm saying is it's personal preference for what u do with your dog my pup is going to be a ferreting dog and a lamping dog ad will also do a little bit on the feather. But I have put every last minute of everyday I have spare into my pup and it shows Hes obedient patient clever and behaves how I want him to on the lamp I can't ask anymore of him.

Where Can I Get Purdys Progress?
Me and my whippet x replied to bmull's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
P.m me mate -
One bad thing is that during day work the dog will hunt up and this is a big no no on the lamp. It's all about how much time u are willing to put into the dog from a young age and when the dog hits 12 months this will show. I take mine out with a chap who has 14 month old collie greyhound whippet and it's not got a patch on mine. Like I say you have got to make time

Thanks mate, and yes he's done a little bit of day work obviously he's only 8 month old so i haven't pushed him to hard. I've done plenty of lamp training with him and if the conditions are right and the rabbits are right then ill give him a run if he doesn't catch I'd place the dummy out and end the night on a high. he's going be a real good dog
-
Yes a massive relief for me the retrieve. I used dummies like your self also I get my cousin to nip into the field first and place a few dummies around at night, then walk him up to them on the lamp as soon as he has seen them I would slip him and get him to bring them back to me it's taken 5 months mind..... Lol. Obviously if the lamp is all new to the dog you won't know how it will react under total darkness so it's benifical to do some lamp training.

He is supposed to be collie greyhound whippet but his mum is more of a lurcher she has a bit of everything in her to be honest... But it's not a bad thing really because he has everything you would want in a working dog.so to put it in short I would really call him a lurcher whippet if that makes sense
-
Yea mate your bang on that will be it now for a little while. Ill now take him back to to the training field and just tighten up on a few things. Jumping obstacles with and without the practice dummy. It's just nice to know that all the long hard and sometimes frustrating days and nights of training have helped

Hi all, got to share this as I am overjoyed. Took my pup out on the lamp for a quick wonder conditions were perfect dark and blowing a gale. Obviously with his age it had to be the perfect rabbit also we wonderd through a couple if fields and every rabbit I put the lamp on got up and bolted for cover. I was begining to think it wasn't our night..... Until in the next field the grass was a little longer I flicked the lamp on and saw a pair of eyes glinting right in the middle of the field. I walked tentively towards the eyes. As I got closer the rabbit squatted down lower ears standing to atten

All Night With A Whippet?
Me and my whippet x replied to Mikekent's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
To answer the question you could run a whippet the same as any other dog. If you wanted to run it all night you could with breaks. It's a common misconception that whippets can't handle the "heat" so to speak. -
He's probably right you know mate. Wait for a night when the conditions are perfect and pick your rabbits half grown and squatting. You wouldn't want to spoil all the hard work that's been put in to date.
