Good question. I don't think all dogs can be rehabilitated but I've learned not to take things at face value. Dogs that are described as vicious and uncontrollable sometimes aren't, or are but can be brought round. Some dogs can't though and they're the ones that should, rightly, be put to sleep in my opinion. But if possible, I think it's worth allowing someone who knows what they're doing to fully assess a problem dog and give it a chance. Milo - I agree, losing dogs your committed to is gut wrenching and takes it out of you.

Please make sure you dry shampoo your dreads whilst your at it....didnt want to say anything but they are getting a bit smelly  Apparently washing them will interfere with my deep sprirtual connection with the goddess - can't wash them for 13 moons and then only in water that's been thrice blessed by the a high priestess of gaia. Anyway I've got no time what with feeding the poor hungry wild foxes and knitting jumpers for the baby bunnies.

Why do these discussions always descend into this kind of name calling? Just because someone is into understanding canine behaviour, or might work with a problem dog rather than get rid, doesn't make them a 'tree hugger', whatever that means anyway. If a dog bit my kid I would probably kill it, but with a heavy heart. And then I'd spend a lot of time trying to understand how I'd f****d up so badly that I'd managed to raise a dog that bit the children in my household. It's about having a bit of respect for the dog and taking a bit of responsibility for the consequences of my actions. Now please

There no pleasue in shooting any dog for any reason so what would you do then ? sell a failed dog on to someone ? or a bitter No you misunderstand me. I'm not saying dogs should never be put to sleep if they don't make the grade or are aggressive. What I AM saying is that some people in here talk about it like it's something they'd enjoy, or would do at the drop of a hat. That's what I don''t agree with. Another thing I notice, and again I'm not talking about this particular dog, is that people get dogs, don't raise them right, then the dog pays the price. I know there are people who cl

I don't know about this particular situation. But it's one thing to shoot a dog that's not up to scratch or is aggressive and another thing entirely to talk about it with relish and enthusiasm. There are people on here who talk about shooting a failed dog like it's a laugh or a pleasure or something to take lightly and that's an attitude I despise.

My merle bitch, Moonpie:
-
I got her as a 2 year old and don't know the details of her breeding. She doesn't look like a first cross but she has a lot of collie traits. I always put her nerviness down to how she may have been handled before I got her. I'm used to collies but she seems flightier than average. I reached out to pat her yesterday and I was holding a couple of pigs ears in my hand - she took fright and ran out of the back door into the garden and hid behind the ferret court! I've had her over three years and never taken a hand to her but she's still so jumpy

I have a blue merle bitch. She's got great prey drive and I'm very happy with her work although she's not record breaking or anything. She's quite highly strung though and I've heard it said that this can be associated with the merles, that there's a genetic connection between merle coloured dogs and behavioural problems. I'm not worried about my bitch, we get along fine, but I am curious about whether there really is a connection. What are your views?

What is your opinion on what the pope said?
Scallywag replied to harrycatcat's topic in General Talk
The developed world's in recession, people are losing their jobs and their homes, countries are being torn apart by war, violent sexual attacks on women and children everywhere and he has a go at what consenting adults do for pleasure or love. If catholicism is going to be relevant to today the pope needs to sort out his priorities. Not that I'm a christian or anything but there are more important things in this world than who fucks who. -
Great photos LG. It was a good day out and Stella took that mouse like a pro Thanks as always to 6pack

I've said before on here that I'd give anything to have a good earth dog but I'm too old, fat and female to be digging for terriers myself. But I love to read about other peoples' digs, it gives me a lot of pleasure. I have enormous respect for the dogs and love to see photos of them too. So what if I stick the occasional photo of my unmarked bushing terrier up on the odd thread, just to participate a bit? I love her and I'm proud of her for doing her bit! I know there are risks when you put stuff up on this forum but I'd be sorry if you all disappeared to some exclusive club and I didn't get

I think that's lovely. What about something with lurchers or hares or even terriers? I'm always looking for things for my self and for presents for friends and am tired of the usual things you see everywhere. Have you seen these? http://www.black-horse-design.com/SighthoundJewelry.html They cost a bomb! You could do well

Fair dos night time - I agree class is a big issue in this although I think, like many things, it's the urban middle class who don't understand hunting or country life who have attacked and continue to attack the rest of us (and no, I'm not posh but yes, I do have a slight crush on CDW, you found me out ). You decribe the emotional trauma of being raided and having your dogs taken away really well - losing my dogs would nearly kill me and I think that's part of why I for one feel so emotional about this topic. And again I agree it does seem to be the upper classes who get off lighter in pros

What the f**k's the matter with you 'night time'? Why attack someone who has consistently supported hunting? worst she'd gets a caution if she were found guilty, which she wont be,see any ordenary man the got caught doing what she was aledgedly doing would already been sentnced by now, shes a barristor, and cerleb, you realy think they are gona bang her up?they'd have to feed her for a start,,it aint lurcher work the countryside aliance and all other large organisations support, its fox hunting and fox hunting is what got lurcher work bannd, nobodey realy gave a fu*k that a man went out and fill

Same here, nothing doing, my dogs are more or less pets at the moment. Very depressing.

I don't know the details of this particular case but it's a real f**k up for the dogs now they've been taken, they'll be in a right state in no time. . I think there are lots of people who don't have a clue what goes on and would be horrified if this was properly publicised. I don't understand why the CA doesn't take this sort of thing on. There needs to be an organised response of protest to the police and others and monitoring of the welfare of the dogs. But how can our side pull together when there are twats like this around.........? What the f**k's the matter with you 'night time

Yup ferret feller I was lucky - and I now know the pup really is properly broken to ferrets!
