Might be an idea to put the mesh on the inside of the wood.
  2. 99% of coppers give the rest of them a bad name.
  3. So why would a swap for another dog be preferable then?. If you've no time for him how are you going to find time for another?.
  4. Hi Back Stabbath,I actually replied to your post on this subject before THL crashed where you also said a bitch should be three before being bred from and a dog should be two. Didn't see your reply (if any). If your talking of waiting till a dog has proven it's worth breeding from with regards to working ability then I definately agree with you, but I don't think you are or why the difference between dog and bitch?.So I'll ask again what do you base your facts on?
  5. Hope you don't mind me asking mate, but where the hell did you get that from ?. It's total nonsence.
  6. Can relate to that I had a bull terrier years ago who chased after everyone on a motorbike, soon stopped when we sold his motorbike.
  7. So... you went to buy a lakie x jackrussel, ended up buying a cairn, didn't see the mother, took it with no papers and an eye i i nfection, thirteen weeks old but not innoculated and then you don't notice the papers are for a nine month old pup ?. Then you wonder why people like that are still in business.
  8. Give them a chance mate, first time out and you're expecting them to work like seasoned adults. What's with the carrying box with mesh on top?, what happens to the ferrets if it rains or snows?.
  9. As it happen I didn't realise it was November and fifty yards starts instead of one hundred, so a man could be forgiven for thinking concessions have been made to accomodate Marks dog, which, to my mind anyway kind of defeats the purpose of the whole competition.
  10. Had a dog a few years back, sounds very similiar to yours Mark, very fast, very determined with plenty of bottle and a great mouth on him. Caught thousands of rabbits with him and I do mean thousands not just a beer tent term. He also caught a lot of hares some hunted up, some big starts, some mugged, some spectacular runs.......and your point is I hear you asking, well the longer the run went on the less likely he was he would catch it, his first run was his best run and any run after that you could see the gradual deterioration his third hare was never as good as his first, the heart and dri
  11. So what your saying is that if you don't get a better offer you'll use the dog that's not exactly what your after?. Mate I've thought in the past people on here were maybe a bit hard on you, but that post says it all, your a fecking twat.
  12. hi i went to hanCOCK had problem with the training so gave him a bell for advice before i could finish what i had to say he said if it,s your money back your to late i thought he was an ok bloke but that changed my mind pronto if you want a dog go to a dog man not a farmer i wish you all the best Perhaps that answers the whole Hancock thing? Alot of the people who buy from him can't actually train a dog? Not haveing a personal dig but I think that is the case with alot of the failures. You admit that you were having trouble training the pup but why call the breeder? Now hancock is a
  13. Going back to this german ferret, with regards to hunting rabbits, does it bolt them or gas them?.
  14. If that's how they treat a good bitch I wouldn't like to see what they do with a bad one.
  15. Now,now Joe your opening a new can of worms mate.
  16. Yeah this is true - theres dogs that do a stylish job, lifting the rabbits quickly and straight back to hand with them every time. This requires effort and training, usually from a pup. But I dont think thats what Mackay was trying to say, if you read back through his post, I think he was meaning for a basic point and slip dog that you release and let it catch rabbits, most dogs with a bit of greyhound in them would do the job, at least thats how I read it ? And you would be reading it right SJM.
  17. The kind of person you are describing is genrally known as an idiot or moron and are best avoided. Yes I can think of some more choice words to describe them unfortunately most of them have the permission on the good rabbit ground...but mostly avoid them now But do they catch rabbits?. They probably all do, which I think kind of reinforces my original post. Granted not as many as they would if they were sane with a well trained dog but they do put rabbits in the bag nonetheless.
  18. The point I'm making is lamping isn't hard and is probably , no definately the easiest learnt type of hunting , a youngster with a greyhound type on the right ground with access to rabbits could better an experienced man and dog on ground with less rabbits.
  19. Ok, with all the banter going backwards and forwards regarding the lamping competition, does anybody still genuinely believe that there's some mystique about lamping?. In truth could there be anything easier for a running dog or do some people believe there's a skill involved. I will concede that experience and regular lamping will increase the end tally, but is it really that hard?. Before everyone jumps on me, I won't be entering as I only have a four month old pup (lets me off the hook) but I genuinely believe I could go to the local pound, pick any lurcher type dog, spend say a month ed
  20. There's an old saying, rent money, spent money, you'll never see it again. On the other hand the house you buy for £,000 could be worth £400,000 in thirty years, so even with interest you could be up £200,000 or alternatively you could rent at £600.00 a month, £7200.00 a year works out at over £200.000 in rent to some rich landlord, I know which way I'd go.
  21. Not true mate, because she has mastitis this time round is absolutely no indication she may have problems next time.
  22. Lance?, never heard so much crap. Apply a hot damp cloth to the swollen area, then strip some milk off, if its yellowish and thick keep going till the milk looks normal. If you get to this stage you shouldn't need a vet or antibiotics, just keep an eye on your jill and make sure all the teats are being used.
  23. And how much do you think he's spent on drink, fags, computer games, holidays in the last five years ?. £400.00 for a dogs bugger all IMO.
  24. davieboy I'll apologise in advance for latching onto your thread mate but I've got the double of your run for sale and I can't do pictures. I'm in central Scotland mate so I wouldn't think it will affect your sale. So any scottish guys interested PM me.
  25. Knife not looked after or not it shouldn't be in that state if its decent quality, I,ve got a box of old knives in the garage some haven't seen the light of day in ten years and they look better than that.
