f**k me there's more vaginas on this forum than in the women's institute. There's a few fellas on here should meet up and sort shit out face to face instead of posting cryptic f***ing messages and throwing sly sneaky digs in about another fellas dogs. This forum has become some heap of bullshit and a perfect sign of what the terrier game has become I'm afraid. If I was a newcomer to the game and I saw the shit that passes as terrier and dog talk on here I'd throw my shovel away ffs.

Had a terrier over off Steve few years ago would love to still have him now. Rip steve -
Nice start to the season Shane. It's still a bit warm but itchy feet often get the better of us and we have to start sometime. Nice seeing the young ones doing well and getting up and running. Another 2 or 3 weeks and I'll be out. Can't f#$king wait.

Smashing photo ctw. Credit to you

Rat face I have a bitch here that doesn't have what you'd call breathing issues as such but grunts like a pig in everything she does. Her mother was the exact same she and was dug to till 9 nears old and wasn't a soft bitch by any standards and was probably the best bitch I've bred . Hopefully that gives you a bit of relief to hear. I can only speak from my own experience and as I said before its not ideal but keeping those types very fit and lean definitely helps.

Old Staffordshire blood would be in our dogs very far back hasn't been added in the 17 years I have this line but they are bred relatively tight so the percentage would have remained fairly similar with a good number of years. Blood going back to one dog in particular that was very bull influenced a good number of years occasionly throws the wind/breathing problems and was only really encountered after a certain cross. I've been around staffs a good long time never to breed into my terriers before you jump on that bandwagon and I've often encountered such problems in them such as wind problems

Is there bull blood in the bitch? If so this sometimes can throw a pup with breathing issues when bred tight. Our blood occasionly throws a few pups sounding like yours which we try not too breed off but I've never really seen it to affect them too much except in warm summer months. The ones we breed with such traits I have them exceptionly fit when working and would have them just carrying slightly less weight when working than their littermates . It's an obvious fault in the blood line but it only affects the odd few and never really hampers them working. Not ideal but we never breed from ba

Foxes are foxes are foxes. You get good and poor specimens in every hunt country. Shire Hill fell moorland. Working terriers year after year and both sides of the British Isles ive seen that foxes in far away pastures haven't altered there dna and become wolves. And never will.
-
Haha. This makes a change from the usual bullshit of who has the best dogs. We're now onto who has the best foxes.
-
Smashing bitches starting out. I love to see strong well made bitches not weedy bony specimens like a lot you'd see today. The one on the right is almost identical to an old girl I had to put down two months ago. Do you mind me asking what blood is in them?

I'm not really a russell man but she's a lovely bitch. I like the picture of her holding her rat she seems a determined little tyke. All the best with her mate

Gimme black and chocs any day. But I've seen and dug to a hell of alot of smashing whites worked and owned in co cork and I wouldve been proud to own them. The only I reason I choose the blacks is because I was reared with them and they've been my life with over 16 years.

I can definitely see both sides of the equation. It's just an unfortunate situation and it does happen occasionly. It happened to me recently enough with a man I held in high regard selling a v well bred pup id gifted him and it being said she was to come back to me but once bitten twice shy. I'd never do it myself as I'd hate to have my front door kicked in and be bet to death with a computer keyboard haha

Lovely stamp of dog general. Fair play

Don't think anyone can call ali a failure. I saw the dog dig a hell of a lot of game when he was down south. The dog was too quiet when not quite up to his game and if game managed to get away from him he could be slow working things out. He needed to be fit as well. A lot of lads saw ali work he was a decent dog that saw a serious amount of work. Nothing more nothing less

Too hard for her own good!!! Don't think so. She was definitely a good producing bitch though.

I'm standing here in my kennels on Xmas day looking at my terriers and now realise I have a yard of black and chocolate bedlingtons. Well that's just ruined my f@#king Xmas haha

It may be mites Shane. Sheep dip or any over the counter products wouldn't help that. You'll probably have to get a vet involved to find the root of the problem. Is it just the tail that's bothering him?

Harkila Pro Hunter Trousers
bull mcabe replied to workworkwork's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Big names mean big money. And there's every chance in the terrier game they'll be destroyed before too long but saying that I got a present of the seeland endmoor trousers last season off the missus and I'm never out of it these days!! -
My young stock usually start very headstrong and hard but over the seasons they steady up a small bit and use their brains and voice more and more and become very capable terriers. I imagine that's the way it is with most lines. I don't call them hard or bayers there just working terriers. I have certain dogs from my line which mix it more than others and other ones from the same line which like to tongue a bit more. All terriers which get the job done.
-
I'd say genetics has a lot to do with it. There is bull in the blood but a fair way back yet the rest of the litter has no issues whatsoever. The dog in question ticks all the right boxes so far and is very well made. He could be an ideal potential stud dog if he kept going the way he his or used his tongue a bit more lol. But murphys law he was the only dog on the litter and it wouldn't be the greatest idea to be carrying on the gene with bad wind. Time will tell though.
-
Yes I did Neil. He worked to a high standard opting for the hard side so far. At the end of a couple of digs he seemed caught for wind when lifted.
-
Just wondering if anyone on here can offer any info on aiding a terriers wind. Have one particular dog on that sometimes has slightly laboured wind. Dog is in his second season and it didn't seem to trouble him when working so far. Just like to hear if any lads have a tip or two for breathing issues other than the usual. Dog is match fit. Sound lads
