If its a mate (a proper one) I can't see the problem, if its someone you've not known that long or haven't had much to do with for a few years I wouldn't bother it'll go pear shaped IMO
-
Sounds like they are pretty versatile

cracking looking hounds, does he/you hunt just one quarry or do you think they could be entered too, or do they hunt anything and everything .I'm not trying to have a pop by the way just interested as they are cracking looking things and ive been toying with the idea of trying to bring the size of the hounds I keep down . cheers

I think your probably right mate, shame really , I think a lot of the lads who have terriers or lurchers and decide to get a couple of hounds to have a bit of craic with ,don't know what there letting themselves in for. There just not like terriers or lurchers in the way they act or go about there jobs as you know. We,ve all spent plenty of time cursing what we,ve done ,the hound and life in general when we,ve taken out one of those shy things that's not had the chance to get used to us and paid the price with it hovering just out of reach for f****n ages with the lads waiting to go to the n

Come on boys what happened?
-
Trouble is the more their walked and worked the fitter they get, the fitter they get the sharper they are about anything and guess what happens next. Kennel them separately IMO it just makes sense. It's better to learn from the mistakes of others!!!!! It might not happen for years but it will happen

mate of mine had a whippet that from what your describing had similar issues, it screamed like a banshee on the lead in what seemed like an effort to get at other dogs . When it was actually let off the lead with the other dogs we had out at the time it half heartedly got into them but this diminished over time , especially when it realised what it was out and off the lead to do. So I would say keep letting it off the lead in a controlled environment muzzled etc until it gets board or enter it for a bit of bushing!!!!. atb

I'm based in Manchester brick top ,

I might be able to help you, I just happen !!!!!! to have a litter of pups from a working (registered pack) beagle to a very well bred but not entered Russell bitch as you can probably guess it wasn't a planned mating although the bitch has seen a couple of things and is doing ok. There two weeks old now and I'd be asking for 50 quid a pup just to stop people taking them on a whim and to contribute to feeding hounds. If anyone's interested give me a shout, cheers

Made me smile nice one mate

Alright boys if anyone is offered a lightly built fell bitch pup, tricolour but mostly black with four white feet and a white band round her neck. She's 7 months old but only about 19/20inches at the shoulder.could you give me a shout. She was stolen from my yard in south manchester in the early hours of Monday morning by someone who broke into the yard to steal the few gamecocks a mate of mine kept there , they.ve no idea what they've got and I think they just took her as a spur of the moment thing the dirty thieving scumbags. As you can imagine I'm gutted I've put a good few hours into her an

Game little f****r they want to bang that over one of those big dogs to put some b*****ks into them, bet that little blacken was sore though getting banged into all that crap in the pen, good job that guy stepped in ,the little dog was just getting warmed up by the look of it pmsl!!!!!!

Babbling to me is when a hound is opening up and staying in one place, not moving forward but just speaking over the same ground or moving really slowly and concentrating more on speaking than getting on,while a deep scented hound opens up on older drag maybe a good bit before any of the hounds but is still trying to get forward to catch whatever it is that's being hunted (they don't know it's banned) now I havnt got a problem with that as long as there true and to be honest it lets me know there's one about, although I understand some people don't like anything to open up until there on real
-
Nobodies mentioned rioting which to me is up there with babbling as the sure fire way to cock up a days hunting, I don't understand why people put up with hounds hunting riot , I've seen mounted huntsman and a couple of the more famous fell huntsman in the early 90s saying "it's because they've not found a fox" etc and you can't blame them , and I believed it as what could I know about this mysterious science that is hunting with hounds this mythical process that the mere layman. Couldn't be expected to understand. This was until I was out with a gun pack in Wales around about the same time a

Liamdelaney I said they didnt waste time screaming not that I like to hear them scream, im in complete agreement with you , if there not mute they not worth a carrot
-
There were plenty of bulls that qualified at the trials so they were mute and as good as the wheatens there on the day, having said that wheatens were bred for the trials not the pit so it's not surprising that imo there better at the job they were specifically produced to do.Don't take this as me saying the bulls arnt as game ,I'm not and at their job they reign supreme but I reckon a well bred working wheaten just has that bit of style about him when he's grafting. The fact they are silent no matter how much there getting back except for the banging and no effort is wasted screaming and roari
-
not really the thing thats going to be admitted too mate , but yes there are still working wheatens
-
Jock of the bushveld is good if you dont get the modern pc version, another good book imo is the terriers vocation Im sure the writer was geoffrey sparrow , it was written in the late 1800s or early 1900 and is pretty whitty and the guy talks a lot of sense. The other thing I noticed about it was the similarity to a few of the "tales" plummer told as his own. The fact this book was written before he was born says a lot about him!!!! (plummer)

Pmsl looking good mate looking good, it's nice to see the lads accepting a mans personal preferences ha ha, I've just spat my tea all over the table funny as feck if I can donate any Barbour wax or couplings for those intimate moments just let me know
-
What I was after was a smaller type hound that would hunt one quarry Blaize , if the larger ones are the best bet for that I'll just stick to the hounds I've already got I think but cheers for the info
