  4. Im happy to admitt ive done fook all as of yet, wanted to start but took my dog out with a lad off here gaz 1989 and found hes no good hunted up all the time off the lead. So im in the intense training of recall with him atm which is comin. So im just planning ahead if you like for if or when hes ready.

  6. Im in the process of training my dog up and just wanting to know are different dogs used for lamping or hunting in the day? Or can they be used for both or trained differently?
  7. Update on training, very please today. Mabe wishfull thinking at this stage but imo hes doin quite well. Ive been building a bond more than ever at home playing tug and retrive and walking him alot more. Been down a local wood with open areas with trainging lead today add its unbeliveable how much more alert and focused on me he is. Even to the point now i can call him back from walking in front not pulling on a 30ft traing lead to heal and walk close majority of the time( still has the odd deaf moment). And when he has got his nose down into the undergrowth a quick name call his heads up and
  8. Ye he loves looking for stuff in the grass hedgerows ect. Dont mean to question you as uve obviously got a shed load more expirience. But will this not encourage him to go searching himself when off the lead? Or is this the idea behind me being the fun thing so he comes to me over anything else?
  9. Im finding that out, to be fair ive bin lazy ive needed get my arse in gear in traing but also getting him out socialising and getting used to all the smells ect is helping alot. And hes looking good for it. Time is the key ive just got learn to be patient which doesnt come naturaly lol. But thanks for the sound advice ive took it on board and will keep you updated.
  10. Cheers for putting the pics up gaz, i came by him just simply because i was after a pet dog saw him on gumtree off all places liked the look and temperment when i went to look and handed over £60. Since then ive had people asking what he is and never know till latley and thats why im giving him ago. Ive recived the article on tug toys had a brief read through befor tonights first proper training sension and it seems to fit with my dog, gives us that bond back that was kind off broken down with me being over strict because i never understood why he was so hard work. First day tho, to me has gon
  11. Sound job then, train recall like theres no tomorrow, no treats just toy (althought in a quarry free area he does come quite well to treat, even just me putting my hand in pocket). Ive got my book read when it gets here, homework time. If that fails shock collar, if that fails. Leave him snoozing on the sofa while i go out with a dog that listens. I will get some pics up later gaz. Cheers guys.
  12. Ok, so sounds like ive got my work cut out even if at all possible. Im going give it a good go tho it would be ideal to use him for what hes made for and seems to enjoy. If all else fails tho ill keep him as a pet like he has been to me up to yet because im to attached and ill just get a pup and keep it as a worker i think to train from day dot.
  13. Thanks for the reply, me and gaz had a good chat about how lengthy the training could be, or even if it will ever be able to get to the standard required. But im willing put the effort in. Infact from ur post ive just ordered that book. Im very keen to get him sorted reguardless if he doesnt become the best hunter in the world it will make taking him out so much better if he comes on command.
  14. Hes just over 2, ive had him nearly a year. Hes never worked. Mainly been a pet but after going a few game fairs and chatting about him and seeing how he reacts to the odd rabbit we see on walks i want to give him ago at it properly.
  15. Hi, new to this but ive got a bull lurcher and thought its about time to see what he can do. Been out for a mooch this morning with member gaz_1989 just to see what he thinks of him as a dog. Turns out he needs alot of work, especialy on recall as he hunts up alot and just switches of to any command. So ive joined up on gaz's say so and after some advice for best off the lead training and get him focus more on me. Thanks.
