  1. Ondex all the way! I link the bomber fat-A's just as much though - mackerel pattern works really well.
  2. Personally I find does a bit more of a challenge - hence don't shoot as many. They seem more shy and not as willing to run towards the buttolo!
  3. BH is right on the money. Lots of newbies get hung up on having a closed ticket even though it rarely makes any significant difference to where they'll be shooting. A truly "closed" ticket is where they restrict you to a specific piece of land and approved ranges for zeroing - I've not heard of this for at least 10 years though. The "land deemed suitable by the chief officer of police for the area in which the land resides" clause pretty much covers every sensibly sized bit of ground in England... however technically you'll never get to shoot in Scotland as they very rarely clear land
  4. I was told that if you neck size then bin them as soon as you start getting cracked necks. If you full length re size then personally I don't use them for more than 8-10 reloads depending on the quality of the make of brass.
  5. 17hmr after 150yrds? Not for fox I guess? You may notice the cost of hmr rifles has dropped recently - this is due to rumours the calibre may be discontinued in favour of the new 17 hornet. Irishnut you are entitled to whatever rifle you want as long as you have land for it, just need to think of the right reason and present it logically
  6. This is where the law is interpreted badly - reason and need are not the same thing. If you want several of the same calibre to shoot over land that is suitable then there's no reason no to be granted them. Do target shooters get told they are only allowed one target gun? No. Perhaps you want to have the 22lr as a dedicated Night vision scope gun, and the magnum as a daytime gun. Or perhaps you want to start collecting historic functioning 22's - this is "good reason" not "need".
  7. Well said. Tolerance is a two way street - "infidels" aren't given the same consideration as this lot!!! I also genuinely believe some of these people do it for a laugh. Would I get away with preaching my views and behaving like a Brit in an Islamic country?... Nope. If I could go there and have them dancing along to my tune for a laugh would I?... Probably.
  8. Mine goes on the compost heap - I know it's not supposed to be good compost but I burn the lot before spreading and seems to work ok
  9. Trap them - then hand them into the RSPCA and they'll destroy them for you if the owners don't come forward. If the owners do come forward you have a link to the owners that the police can act on, and proof that you tried other methods if you do end up having to shoot them. I think you can argue the cats are feral if they aren't wearing a collar.
  10. As Charlie said there's not an awful lot in it, I definitely notice reduced recoil and noise though
  11. There's a commercially available one called the iScope. American guy invented it - lots of info on YouTube. I have a camera one made by seben. It's pretty good but I'd like the iScope one when I have £100 to blow!
  12. Scales are unfortunately something you can't do on a budget. Electronic scales under £100 aren't accurate in my experience, neither are cheap manual counterbalance scales. RCBS do some good counterbalance scales for about £50 I think. I've actually reverted to a Lee dipper as found measuring by volume is more consistent than measuring by weight with cheap scales, and a hell of a lot quicker than using decent counterbalance scales. I also use a Lee crimp. This basically regulates start pressures which is the same as getting consistent neck tension without a crimp. I should add
  13. My .243 sako 85 will stabilise 100g which supposedly is rare. I use 37g of h4350 and mine is the quietest .243 I've heard - I've shot 80yds from a landowners house and they've not heard it from inside the house. Heavier rounds mean less powder and slower projectiles = less noise. H4350 is also a slow burning powder so less noisy I think. I use a MAE T12 mod which is notoriously quiet anyway, but lighter projectiles and hotter loads are definitely louder through my set up.
  14. Think I've joined before but can't for the life of me remember what email, username, or password was haha! I'm from Sussex and work as a freelance gaming and country sports writer, whilst also running a small pest control business. I'm a bit of an all rounder shooting-wise... bunny's, foxes, and deer mainly though.
