  1. i'm trying to make room in my kennels for a ratting terrier, i've heard a lot of good things about the plummer terriers, at what age did you enter your to a rat?
  2. i find it much easier to train a dog rather than a bitch, i don't know why or if it is just my methods but my bitch i have at the moment is really stubborn, i've had success in the field with her on quarry but i'm not happy with where she is at the moment, does anyone else find it harder to bring on a bitch than a dog?
  3. i'd just get her out over commons and rough land as much as possible, and throw things in the bushes for her to look for, if she's bred for it she should pick it all up in due course
  4. If you get out with the right people who know what they are doing when it come's to training dog's your eye's may well be opened with collie X's .. i totally agree there mate, i wouldn't mind a bearded collie X in the future, i love rough coats
  5. i have read the preview on Google Books, looks like a brilliant read!
  6. i have looked online for it, it's £35 on most sites, i'm looking to buy that and a few books by Brian Plummer this weekend
  7. regardless of politics, the fact is a man has got to eat, and i feel a lot better knowing where my food comes from
  8. Answered your own question the bop and magpies are clearing up the roadkill. yeah i seen a magpie carrying a fox away the other day......
  9. thank you for this Skycat, very interesting read, what is also important is diet in a running dog, i have a 2 year old 5/8 3/8 Bull X and a year old Saluki Greyhound i walk them 3 times a day whilst working 9-6! i have seen boys run they're dogs whilst riding up farm tracks on a quad, surely that's an accident waiting to happen? i'm using Gain 28 greyhound food at the moment and now and again i buy tripe or chicken mince, can anyone recommend other foods that may be better?
  10. nice dogs, my friend has a spaniel pup identical to that one, how does he/she work?
  11. get him out in the day with the ferrets that might help
  12. who better to preserve the hare species than the people who have an interest in hunting them? i totally agree with the majority against guns and in favour of dogs, can anyone realisticly see the ban being lifted? are any political parties pushing for this atm? with money tight a few hares in the pot is surely a good thing in a long winter?
  13. me and 3 boys went out a few weeks ago, had 12 rabbits, tried carrying these in 3 small back packs, not the best of ideas!
  14. can you see the one dog one fox rule coming back in? Didn't know there was such a rule. i heard from a man by me that they were meant to be debating a one dog one fox law in parliament due to increases in lamb and poultry attacks from the foxes, he must of been mistaken, anyone else heard anything similar?
  15. take the dog out in the day on rabbits, and show him rabbits in the night. dogs all have a pack mentality so show the dog other dogs retrieving on a lamp and that ma help
  16. can you see the one dog one fox rule coming back in?
  17. hopefully they will look at hare coursing, without a lucher up they're backside these hares are getting slow and easier for the fox to pick up. who better to conserve the wildlife of britain than the people with an interest in hunting them?
  18. i have seen 2 collie Xs work in my life and both have been bad examples of this cross, i have read Brian Plummers books and he claims it's the best cross out there, it may be down to non working collies in the blood as i know 1 out of the 2 came from someones pet collie
  19. My Saluki cross works well, he will jump gates and fences to chase his quarry and has the stamina for a long distance coarse. he isn't as stubborn as my Bull X and is a pleasure to own. i haven't had any trouble breaking him to stock but he doesn't like the ferret at all. he is mustard on rabbits and i would definitely recommend this cross to others, but most KC reg salukis i have seen aren't as natural as the others as they're bred to have feather and not stamina
  20. any reason not to hang Rabbit? i have seen rabbit hung before but not sure how long for, i put mine in the fridge and eat the day later
  21. my friend had a saluki whippet, it would out run anything over 150 yards but couldn't jump a 7 bar gate too well. but i think that was down to the training, how do you find your saluki Whippet?
  22. most of my ground is flat so that may be why i prefer my saluki X
  23. what are the benfits of hanging a rabbit? i skin + gut mine and then put them in the fridge, i find the meat more tender then than in the freezer. what are your opinions on how long is best to hang for?
  24. hardest thing these days is to find a proper working Bedlington, most are show bred and don't have the working qualities anymore, if my Bitch wasn't in whelp i would be looking to buy a bedlington greyhound i have always wanted one
