  1. Barn owls won't be affected too much by most of the poisons, i should imagine most would be set in urban areas, you mentioned pest control is a hobby of yours have you seen an increase in the rat population or is it just the media over reacting?
  2. with all due respect, anyone who thinks you can poison one species without it effecting another species, and that raptors don't eat carrion is equally as crazy
  3. RW, Good article and could not be highlighted at a better time to the public. Check out an interesting interview with Bill Oddie (Animal/ Bird Conservationist) on the link below. He describes how he has to "Get a Man in" to deal with his super Rat problem near his home. Its amazing how his tolerance extends to only some mammals!!! He can't use poison because it could kill some of his birds of prey in the food chain. Its the same with the Animal Rights people, save the fox but kill every mouse and rat that comes near their house. Of course they won't do it......they "Get a
  4. a few raptors do eat carrion, Buzzard, Red Kite, just to name a few, just trap them and shoot them, or get the dogs, no need for poison, it will only make things worse
  5. no need for poison, just a good rat pack!
  6. yeah they reckon they are immune to the poisons too so the only option is get the dogs in, i missed the program, was it any good?
  7. Hi lads, I've seen a lot of news stories lately about "Super rats" in the press, has anyone had any of these with they're dogs? These are the kind i'm talking about http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2669542/Rise-genetically-mutated-SUPER-RATS-Giant-rodents-immune-poison-spreading-rapid-speeds.html
  8. does anyone work sealyham terriers? i thought they were pudding dogs
  9. just chuck him a few rabbits for the pot!
  10. nice bitch, what X is she, Deerhound x bullgrey?
  11. i know of a bull X that changed hands 3 times in a space of a week, luckily the boy who has him now is keeping him, i know of some good bull Xs that are all rounders, but most are one trick ponies
  12. brodie pig.jpg He had papers and it ruined him and stopped him working good stamp of a dog that, nice to see someone actually working a KC dog
  13. my problem with KC reg all comes from speaking to a "Saluki enthusiaste" who was telling me he wants to breed "almond eyes" Salukis should be bred for they're ability in the field and not to look a certain way, as with any other breed of dog. this is where the show world of KC has gone tits up, breeding a dog to look a certain way and not to a certain job is ruining breeds
  14. after all the health problems the kennel clubs caused with pugs, dalmations and various other breeds i don't know how they're allowed to continue
  15. i have been offered a russell bitch she's meant to be a ratting machine, looking to take her on trial this weekend
  16. im a big fan of russell types but because they're now bred to X with pugs etc i can't find one true to type, KC reg types of people are ruining breeds as much as dog breeders are, i won't buy a russell unless i see both parents working
  17. rabbits do move all year around, they move with the seasons for food etc, some lads by me have been out slipping lurchers on rabbits the size of hamsters, and not for pest control reasons, it's ruining the game for when the season starts
  18. welsh sheepdogs are better workers an the collies, most collies are house pets and useless for a lurcher x, i seen the dog you're talking about, good stamp!
  19. rabbit numbers have always been terrible round my way, lately the have picked up but a bunch of local lads keep summer hunting the rabbits, not gonna be any game left in the winter by me
  20. i know of 2 collie crosses and both dogs run into fences and seem to go straight down the beam, but i don't think any herding/terrier breed is a hinderance in a lurcher in my opinion any pup in the right hands has potential
  21. !!! f****n brilliant, I choked on my tea then! i've heard it all nowBedlington X would make a "great lap dog" i wish i could find a proper working old style bedlington, not gonna be around much longer! I thought there are quite a few good bedlingtons down your way, a member on here 'swanseajack' I think, wrote articles in the terrier section on this site about them, not sure how accurate those threads etc were, never been much of a bedlington fan, but they're starting to interest me i know of a lad with a bedlington, in tSwansea, not sure what kind of work he do
  22. nice dog mate, how's he bred?
  23. a friends Bull X has badly damaged his pad on the front paw, we're waiting to see how this will effect his running/turn i think it all depends on the after care and how much time you give them to heal and rest, how long did the vet recomend not running him?
  24. duramitex or harker should do the job, Advocate is good stuff too, i know lads who have used it but i haven't myself
