  1. all of those books will have pretty much the same info. in apart from maybe the breeding one. I was given the david bezant book and 1 of the j McKay books and they had pretty much the same stuff in. sorry, probably not much help!
  2. you cant put a price on a good worker. when I start breeding them I intend to give the kits away to the best homes I can possibly find. I might sell one or two to cover the cost of breeding but that isn't much anyway.
  3. I am working on a camera for ferreting, for the same reason that I want to know what really goes on underground. the trouble is finding something that has night vision and is low cost. I have found various video cameras which are small enough and cheap enough but without night vision. I am just researching thermal imaging, so will keep you in touch.
  4. I just go down to the local park with a sub-machine gun. sorry, what I meant to say was it is best if there is a couple of you, one each side of the tree. me and a mate had gun fun drey poking as could get anything up to 8 from one drey!
  5. I have had similar experiences, lamp it the night before ferreting, watch them bolt and go into the warren that you are going to ferret the next day and when the time comes you draw blank!!
  6. depends what your working and where.
  7. any good working ferrets for rehoming in Lowestoft area? please give me a shout, can possibly pick up from 35 mile radius. please PM me. thanks potpoacher & the team
  8. thanks! that's what I tried to get across! no she doesn't think that its all cruel, its the sport side that she doesn't like i.e. pheasant shooting. when she was a kid she shot a bird of 'some description' with a borrowed air rifle so she must have a bloodthirsty streak in her!!! she let me get an air rifle so she must understand that I have to use it.
  9. I have just brought a longnet and want to use it at night but my mum is saying that it is a cruel sport and not pest control. what would you say? is it a sport (im not worried about the cruel bit as its stupid) or is it pest control?
  10. both! some on banks others on the flat. does anyone know what the laws are like when it comes to ferreting roadside warrens?
  11. yep a longnet would go round the brambles okay. would just have to use plenty of ferrets to clear all the rabbits out. its the ferreting im interested in! the landowner wasn't worried about controlling the rabbits, he just said I could ferret them as long as no brambles or bushes were cut, so I have to keep him happy really.
  12. the bramble patches are huge. they are big domed patches reaching about 6ft at the highest point. the one, when you say purse nets across the runs, I presume you mean to act as a stop net? as to the locators, if I found a couple of reliable chaps to help me out then I suppose I cuts down on the time we can locate a ferret but how are we meant to dig it out? the landowner is very snotty about what we do and cutting the brambles down is a big no no?! about getting some chaps to help out, I have had troops of guys come out ferreting with me, about 1 was reliable (if a little lazy) ! all the o
  13. problem 1) can anybody give me any tips on using a locator? probably being thick and lazy but some of the sets I do are quiet big and it can take quite a bit of time to pick the ferret up. problem 2) a few of the warrens I have started doing are covered in very thick brambles. I know this has been covered dozens of times but the landowner doesn't them to be chopped down (?!?) how am I supposed to dig, or even find where the ferret is in thick cover which a ferret can only just about get into? haven't really done warrens like this before or ever used locators before so feel free to sta
  14. i use them. u just hav to make sure they are all getting enough food.
  15. i don't think i ever took any pics of him but i found one quiet similar but after reading down on the webpage i found out it was a mink in the picture. he was always dead vicious and he didn't last long as he ripped his way out of a solid wire cage and got caught in a fenn trap in the hen run!! i got him from an auction for next to nothing as no one else bidded on him for some weird reason?!?!?!?! i don't believe it was a mink as everyone is always saying that people are just talking crap. not to worry, just wondered if what the bloke was saying was true that it wasn't a ferret. i wont worry
  16. you chaps make me laugh! no it was more ferret shaped and sized. I will try and find a pic somewhere.
  17. I was talking to a bloke a couple of days ago about the first ferret I ever had and he was quiet surprised at my description and says it wasn't a ferret, what do u think? I cant find any photos at the mo but he was pitch black apart from a touch of white on the nose.
  18. ...the ferrets happy.
