  1. Thanks dmr. I'll have a look for those now.
  2. but would you do the bigdog if you seen him in his hot pants Hard to say without seeing the pic.
  3. I would like to learn as much as possible about lurchers, so can anyone recommend a book that isn't too "specialist". I don't want to be the best dogman ever, but I DO intend to do the best by my new pal. Thanks J. Forgot to say, I mean a really general book, going over the different traits different crosses have and so on.
  4. I've never watched BB. but that bird with the tattoos would definitely get it.
  5. I've got 2 freezers full of stuff I've shot. If only we had a veg plot we could be properly "green". Maybe next year.
  6. Does this mean no-one should ever give the sport a try? I've been into shooting for many years and I fancy getting a dog shortly. I intend to read up about them and ask questions before I make a decision, but I'm sure I won't be an "expert" by the time I get a dog.
  7. I haven't met any yet, but I'm looking forward to meeting some members in the future.
  8. Whatever shotgun you go for, make sure you find one that fits you and feels right rather than one you like the look of.
  9. That's not right mate. Obviously they should be a snug fit, but no so tight you physically can't pull it thru,
  10. I'm new here, but that link to the other post just doesn't look right.
  11. As you know a lot of info can be found on the internet that's rubbish - people's personal opinions. I'd go for a book if I was you.
  12. They take a while to kick in. calamine lotion will sooth it.
  13. Antihistamines and calamine lotion.
  14. Lovely looking dogs. Got a way to go yet though. If someone told me a pup was wolfhound x bulldog I doubt I'd know.
  15. Thanks for that Andy. I'm going to read a lot and consider lots of good v bad points before I make my decision. I didn't want to get myself something and then find you have to be some kind of expert to train them. Cheers. Sensible attitude mate..there are believe it or not some good knowledgeable people on here..I'm sure you won't be long in fathoming out the wheat from the chaff lol..are you thinking of a dog for both daytime and nighttime work, ferreting or all three disciplines or just one of them? Atb Andy Purely for evening mooching mate. Maybe the odd day when I'm off work. It won
  16. Thanks for that Andy. I'm going to read a lot and consider lots of good v bad points before I make my decision. Cheers. no'ones an expert mate. patience and persisstance and constant work with the mut.. canny go wrong Ha ha. Reading some other forums, I thought I was the only person who wasn't an expert.
  17. I love the look of bull greys, but maybe as my second dog eh?
  18. Thanks for that Andy. I'm going to read a lot and consider lots of good v bad points before I make my decision. I didn't want to get myself something and then find you have to be some kind of expert to train them. Cheers.
  19. Hi all, I'm sure this is a much-asked question and I guess most answers are personal opinions, but I'd like to get a lurcher to go rabbiting with, and I have no idea where to begin breed-wise. No doubt any breed would catch rabbits, but is there a better breed for someone who isn't a dog person to begin with? I've had pet dogs of various breeds in the past, so I'm no stranger to dogs, just lurchers. Any and all information much appreciated.
  20. I only have a springer (HW80) and it does everything I've ever asked of it. I'd imagine a multishot PCP would be less hassle in the dark, but I couldn't justify buying one myself just because of my sausage fingers.
  21. I've been hassled verbally a couple of times, but never attacked. Yet.
  22. Hello all, I've been shooting for quite a while now and I'm thinking of getting a dog to go and mooch with. I've seen some nice dogs in action, but I'm still a virgin regarding what breeding etc, so please expect loads of questions. Look forward to learning.
