Air Rifle Experience Counted Towards Fac

Which the .243 or .22-250? Both mate lol, to be honest they are not too far apart in terms of performance, just the .243 can handle heavier bullets, so is in theory a better deer calibre, that said, a local gunshop owner used to do the council deer culling,(all reds) back in the 80s and he used nothing but a .22-250 and he swore by it and says he never had a runner all dropped with a chest or neck shot, a very potent round is the .22-250 and I would have one tomorrow if I did not have the .243. Yeah I know its potent. I've walked around ith someone who had one before. I came across th -

Shortage Of Ammo In The Country !
Alsone replied to shovel leaner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Shouldn't that be because house holders might use them to scratch cirminals? I'm just surprised thy haven't banned pillows in case anyone gets into a pillow fight with one! Difference between the US and UK is: US There's a criminal comming through the window, XYZ happens to criminal. US Cop, well done! UK There's an armed criminal coming through the window, hit him with a pillow. UK Cop. You're under arrest for assaulting the criminal and he's now suing you for damages. Would be funny if it wasn't true. I always remember an episode of "Cops" (CBS Reality) where the US polic -

Yeah maybe I should have Pm'ed the question. Looks like it was all sorted. Good luck on the application. I agree .22-250 is a hell of a gun. A lot prefer .223 because its a bit quieter and doesn't wear barrels as quickly, but personally I like .22-250 from what I've seen of it. It's also deer legal in Scotland which says something about its power. I'm betting all those who can't get .223 (5,56x45) are wishing they bought .22-20 now as well. Sometimes it pays to have a little less popular calibre. -
Yeah, as I read it, 24" barrel still applies though.

Hope you don't mind me asking but are you able to tell us what happened with your brother? If my memory serves me right and you are the same user I'm associating this with, then your brother had a shotgun and had let his certificate expire by over a year and was also keeping the gun out of a cabinet and at a different address to the registered one. Just curious as to how this was sorted out. -
So the 40" overall length rule only applies to self loaders and pump actions? So if that's true, you could buy a single shot shotgun, cut the barrel down to 24" and cut the but stock off? As I read it, the 40inch rule on page 8 applies to classification ie whether its a shotgun or firearm, not prohibition. Guidance point 2.6 on page 9 covers single shot and muzzle loaded shotguns - anything under 24 inches is classified a firearm. I'd like to see you get an FAC for a sawn off shotgun though. I presume its possible but you'd have to have a very unique usage. you can there 4

Plus means it has a double skinned door with safe style shooting bolts. Some info here: http://www.brattonsound.co.uk/sentinel.html -
Just out of interest (not thinking of reloading atm obviously!) but how do you keep a track of how many times you've fired your brass? Do you mark it each time?
-
Well that's good value. I can only go off price wise what the friend with the .22-250 said as I don't have an FAC. Obviously he was either wrong or looking at top end equipment. Certainly seemed to be plenty of euqipment needed when I watched this: Doesn't look too complicated but the thoughts of repeating that 50 or a hundred times, makes me want to buy!

in your area ? i live in yorkshire ....and have fox on .17 ..........since renewing my licence it has come back with the following ......under all calibers it says...........any lawful quarry suitable for that caliber..........seems the police have put the onus on the shooter what is suitable.......the .17 is not illegal on fox......but wether its suitable or not is your choice under the circumstances when shooting I can assure you South Yorkshire do not permit the use of .22rf or .17HMR for fox.I would also say getting a centrefire .243 on a first application without conditions (mentor claus

What right has ANY force got to insist you have rimfire first, and what calibre is a bridge between anything, calibres stand and fall on their own merits, and the merits of the 17WSM are yet to be established, so is the price in the UK of guns and ammo, and a WSM IS a Rimfire! You can read as much as you want, life is different when you are walking around by yourself with your own gun. Reloading will bring tailored, better performance, to any gun over factory, and for anyone who shoots a decent amount will save them money, even with the original capital investment in equipment. If you

I didn't say it was illegal. The information I have from another respected member on here is that in Yorkshire it has to be centrefire (no specific stipulation to calibre or bullet size) not rimifire for fox. Other posters have in the past posted that in their counties .17 HMR is allowed for fox and that their forces won't grant centrefire to new FAC holders. It seems SY is now one of the more sensible forces matching performance to prey rather than licence holder's years of holding.
-
I'm not whining, just pointing out that WSM serves as a bridge between rimfire and centrefire in those areas where the forces insist you have rimfire 1st. As for me, I'm not too worried because if I did apply for an FAC it would be for fox plus pests and small game, which means I'd have to be centrefire anyway in our county by virtue of the fox rules here. I'd most likely go .223 because of that. If I had to go rimfire then yes it would be WSM. Also, its worth remembering that reloading involves a lot of expensive equipment and a lot of hassle. I've not reloaded but I did start to watc

Well yes and no to the work your way up bit. Sometimes that's simplistic. I've never held an FAC but would you classify me as clueless? I wouldn't claim to be an expert but I think I have a decent knowledge of rifle shooting, firearms, rifle ballistics and safety aspects of rifle use. In fact I'd argue there are many FAC holders out that know less or behave as if they know less. This message board company excepted.
-
Well as I've said befoe the Honet is Ok but the trouble is for new certificate holders many forces only want new people to hold rimfire. .17WSM bridges the gap by giving a rimfire with centrefire performance. I gather in my area they only now sanction centrefire for fox but as we know many areas sanction HMR for fox and insist on people having rimfire at 1st.

Only shot one a couple of times but in my experience, Tbh, a semi's no different to an o/u in sighting. Only differences are: 1. Slightly louder - the gases exiting the ejection port are nearer your head and not travelling away - you'll never notice with hearing defenders anyway 2. Less recoil - the action reduces the recoil making them potentially better on a 2nd shot than a double barrel 3. Some people say the ejected cartridged distracts them - never noticed myself. Only time it can really is if it bounces off the clay shoot cage into your face which is very rare anyway. 90%

Looking For Info About Shotguns And Shooting Them

1.5 hours at a guess. I'd allow 2 hours to be safe. -
Nice honest review.

This almost wasn't worth a reply but I will.... No-one told the guy where he lived. It was asked if he was back living here or visiting. He thinks you refer to the stock on his shotgun , you are refering to the vegitation , get a grip boys lol Yeah that explains it Shovel. The wonders of the internet and understanding. It is a nice gun though.

Ha ha. Foxed me. I'm guessing you're either visiting the UK or don't live in Aus anymore. No mate 'still here in Aus whys that...? Well if it was an English wood then you must have either moved back or been visiting, unless of course you have some secret time portal in the woods - this side Aus that side Pommy land... I dont think I follow what your saying mate..? You just said that the fox came from England? Yep I said it looked like an English wood and above you said it was. That clearly indicates you're in England.
-
Its very difficult these days Shaun and some forces are more understanding than others. Some will revoke a certificate if you get into an aggressive situation even without violence. eg. There's at least on case mentioned on here of people simply going through a divorce with no violence having their guns seized and licence suspended. Others forces are more lenient. Just understand that if you do get a certificate, not only is at risk with any further incident, but it's also likely the police will send an armed response team just in case, even to a normal domestic situation, and being he
