What's Your Opinion On The 00 Remington Buckshot ?

Advantage of a magnum gun - 50 grams = 125 pellets of BB or 193 of No: 3 -
What's Your Opinion On The 00 Remington Buckshot ?
Alsone replied to fox assasin's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Too large except for close range use against something fox sized. Try no: 1's or BB's instead. With a shotgun it's the shock that kills and at any kind of range the low number of shot in the cartridge will mean massive holes in the pattern with a real chance of only hitting the fox with a single shot and probably not in a vital area at that = wounding. You're much better off therefore with smaller shot because that way you impart more energy overall (lots of small hits add up to more than 1 single hit - a single large pellet with say 12 ft lbs is less than 30 hits with small pellet -
Ah ok. I was going to say the headache could be because of the brightness. Just make sure you avoid reflective surfaces and any possibility of any part of the beam reflecting directly back into the scope eg off the moderator base. So far as the goose shooting goes, it was just a word of warning as even a flash skyward if it's seen by a pilot may lead to a report and the police helicopter / ground units being sent to your location not to mention the trouble you might find yourself in. It's easily done. I'd hazard a guess everyone with a regular torch has shone it above the horizon at some p

Nice gun Dan.

When you say it was giving you a headache do you mean viewing the illuminated target through the scope? Also, be aware, where you are pointing it as pointing a laser skyward you need CAA clearance and could fall foul of the Aviation Authorities / Regulations.

Eley Subsonic Hp .22Lr Ammunition
Alsone replied to redlion's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Best to forget reticules and learn to make MOA adjustments as they should never change if your turrets track accurately. The problem with reticules is in most scopes they're in the 2nd focal plane and so the BDC compensation marks effectively move upwards as the maginification increases and downwards as you decrease it. It's far better in my opinion to have a table of MOA adjustments vs range, and the same for windage. That way you can dial in your compensation and provided the range / tables are accurate, the compensation holds true for all magnifications. Reticules are a quic -

.22-250 Newbie Advice Update (Thanks)
Alsone replied to maktayla's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Only thing I would say is that if you are going to cast, either cast outdoors and stay upwind of the moulting pot or buy a respirator that protects against toxic vapours (lead in all forms including vapour is poisonous). -
I must admit I kind of agree with Deerhound here. Although I too am siding with the scope, for the sake of a box of ammo, which you'll need anyway, I'd buy some factory stuff and just shoot off a few rounds and see. You could buy Privi if your local dealer stocks it to keep the cost down. Otherwise just get the good stuff - Hornady V-Max. ...and as Deerhound suggested take the moderator off. If it shoots the same at distance, with the factory ammo and no mod, then it's the scope (I'm assuming the rifle is clamped in a bench rest here, if not test in one to eliminate yourself!).

Whats The Best Fox Caller On The Market
Alsone replied to bbs's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Just looking at it there are very few voices and many are of US animals only eg wild turkey, coyote, timber wolf etc. There's a chance turkeys may work as UK turkey farms do lose birds, but once you get off the rabbits / turkeys, I'd be doubtful about the others. That said, I've no experience of US animal calls and as foxes can be curious, they could just pull them in. For my money though, I'd rather have something with hundreds of calls and that covers many UK species. -

Around £100, could be a contender: http://www.whathifi.com/jbl/flip-2/review John Lewis have the version 1 for £50. Review of version 1: http://www.whathifi.com/jbl/flip/review Don't know how robust these are. -
Just for clarity, I've just been reading on the SD about the HMR. One guy says he reported it to the gunshop who reportedly said "It's nothing to do with us mate, it's down to the manufacturer". That is incorrect. Anything sold commercially has to comply with the Sale of Goods Act as amended and specifically it has to be "fit for the purpose for which it was intended" and also of "Satisfactory Quality". If it isn't because it doesn't work properly, then the gunshop ARE responsible for the defective rounds as they sold the ammunition. SO you have every right to take them back for a refu

Why did he chamber and fire a second round if the first one failed? Sometimes you can't tell. There have been several posts on here where the round has actually gone bang but not left the barrel. So presumably it went bang, he thought he'd missed, chambered another and blew the gun up. Whereas I'm not sure I agree that HMR is too loud (anything is loud compared to .22 sub) and lets face it the other longer range rimfire option .22 Magnum isn't quiet either, the ammo quality really appears tro be poor and I agree atm it appears dangerous. The companies need to put some serious q

Police Call To My House After Shooting In My Garden.
Alsone replied to pianoman's topic in General Airgun Discussion
That's exactly the problem. There's a growing band of people in this country who believe that the only view of the world is their view and no-one else can hold a different view or do anything that differs from what their view of the world is. The days of live and let live have gone and that's why this country is going down the drain. So far as your issue is concerned Simon, personally, I'd video everytime I shoot from now on with time and date, just in case those pellets actually appear. Maybe even count the number of shots and then count the pellets on camera from your backstop to pro -

You can also do it with purely your lips by pursing them and sucking air in. -
Make sure your ticket actually says AOLQ in the conditions. If it doesn't you can only shoot what is specified.

Do what Deerhound suggested and ensure your certificate is either conditioned for fox or Any Other Legal Quarry. Don't rely on vague guidelines or interpretation. So far as ammo is concerned, most people prefer subs because they're almost 100% stealthy. HV's have a lot more energy but they are also very noisy - think echo round a valley at night noisy even with a moderator fitted. OK nothing like a CF, but stealthy they're not! TBH little virtue in using anything more than a sub at sensible .22 RF fox type ranges (ie close range) as it has more than enough retained energy. Once you get abo

Anyone Reloading For A Tikka T3 In .243?

I once had a situation like this, shooting from a vehicle with a Gunpower Stealth at 12ft lbs with a 28 grain hunting pellet. Shot a rabbit right between the eyes from 10 feet (!), it stood there bleeding. I got out reloaded walked up to it and had to shoot it point blank in the head again. I felt so bad as I don't believe in causing suffering to any animal. But there was nothing more I could have done. The gun was fully charged, I had a hunting pellet in which I was led to believe was suitable and it was shot bang between the eyes. After a couple of repeat injuries I sold the gun. I

Daystate Huntsman Regal Stiff Bolt
Alsone replied to JDE's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I wouldn't have paid. I'd have brought Trading Standards into it. The Gun wasn't fit for purpose within the meaning of the sale of goods act if you can't elevate it. What are you supposed to do shoot at targets below your eye level all the time? Never heard anything so ridiculous. -
Ok Thanks. I guess the Stoeger is a no no. Back to the drawing board and maybe a Webley Raider then.

AH thanks. 1st hand experience, just what I wanted. I'll save my money, BTW if you're wondering why I'm not keen on 2nd hand, then look here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/83857-tamworth-angler-jailed-for-keeping-air-rifle/

Was just wondering if anyone had any experience of these. Seem to get good write ups, couldn't find any independant user reports. So far as I can gather, they're an Italian made spring gun that suppopsed to be the quietest gun on the market by some margin. They're also very cheap: http://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/8552f13353c7bcc394182780/Stoeger+X20S+ATAC+Suppressor+inc+4-16x40+-a-8-f-322+Standard+Barrel/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSopqDRj8cM Sorry to keep asking aboiut different guns, but I need something for Magpies and I'm trying to keep the cost d
