It's one of those things, you wouldn't of known, even with the dead one at the start, it could of died natural causes.
It's always a gamble, even proven broodys can come off nest last days.

Could be the dog is run down and that will present itself as a skin problem and then obviously the licking makes it worse or it could be the dog is sore ... As in tendon joints etc so is licking at the sore spot then turns that into an open sore ... Normally a change to a fatty diet when the dog is working hard will cure both the above ailments ......

Defo not boredom for mine either.
It's only ever a small patch about size of thumb nail, no more than one patch.
I would like to try raw feeding, but supplies are not good in my area.
