  1. Any plans to breed to the 3/4, be interesting. Like I said not my taste but interesting.... There's a few breeds out there that I reckon might bring something to a lurcher (that I havent seen done) mostly american stock dog breeds and Airedale lines, australian Koolie and one or two of the european working herders. At least you've had the imagination to try something new, hope it works out for ya bud.
  2. Honest opinion bud, the dog is heavy for my taste. But it thats what you wanted, fair play , like someone said if it was a bull x the same height and weight you'd have 100 replies saying ' what a cracker'. From what I understand the Malamute is a sledge dog that pulls heavy loads, a kind of canine tractor unit. If you were gonna go with a sledge dog for some of the reasons listed: stamina, toughness, coat, strong feet, etc would the Siberian Huskey not have been a better bet, much faster to, and they run for mile after mile after mile, incredible athletes. Again it wouldn't be to my taste.
  3. Yeah this lady has merles in her line, looks like they're fairly common amongst the working types. Only the show breds that dont carry the gene because of the very small number of dogs (no merles that I'm aware of) initially admitted to the breed club as the foundation of the breed. Wouldn't be surprised if the merles come from border crosses amonst the workers, tho it could have been there all along, beardies and borders will have common ancestors way back, no doubt.
  4. Crackin looking bitch that one Jim. If she's as handy as she looks she'll be some bitch. My ideal type that, looks wise. cracker.
  5. Bengal Tiger with a black belt and a jet pack. no contest.
  6. Seen one runnin about the woods with a young lad years ago, looked handy. Just dont start a 'Single handed Patterdale x Whippet' thread...
  7. Cheers fella, thats the kind of info I was looking for. Sort of suspected that might be the case.
  8. Alright mate, Ive been looking into this 'limited gene pool' thing and you are right, the KC registered variety started of with a very small number that they decided 'fitted' the breed sandard (that they invented) there were actually a lot of em about at the time but this breed club put it about that beardies were dying out, which was bollocks frankly. It was just that most of them didn't fit the 'ideal type' they had in mind. Now a lot of the foreign breed clubs are allowing outcrosses to working types to try and broaden the gene base, but not the UK (they'd have to throw away their hair cur
  9. looks like a canny owd bugger darbo! Had another look at the shepherdswibeardies site, and the brambledales are mentioned relating to some genuine working studs being used on her bitches. Looks like for the last few generations at least they're pukka working types....cheers pal, atb.
  10. Looking for info/experience/opinions on the particular line of Bearded Collie I mentioned bud, but thanks all the same. atb. Give Magpie a pm of here. he knows his stuff regarding beardies. i dont think he is on much but he may be able to help you. atb. Also have a look at the website www.shepherds with beardies if you already havent done so. information on beardies which are worked in england, scotland, and wales also information on history breeding etc. Aye seen the website darbo, spoke to magpie via email too, the type he's breeding looks very useful, right up my street. Toying with t

  12. She's coming on lovely mate, make sure you let us all know how she's doin bud, there's alot of us routing for her now! Atvb.
  13. Raciest 1st cross Ive seen was an from an accidental mating, rescue racing grey x English Bull, pup I saw grow was a cracker looked like a grehound but very little 'stop' where it's muzzle met it's head, just like an English Bull, fuller cheeks aswell. Worked well too so he said. Some bonny dogs here, nice one lads.
  14. Exactly why I'm trying to get on there mate (see my thread on 'Brambledale beardies) maybe if someone put a word in? Kind offers from some so far to ask for me on there, but I would like to get on myself. Sounds like it'd be right up my street, just seem to click with collie lurchers, my beddy cross was a goodun but I never got on that near telepathic level with him that I did with my collie bred bitch.
  15. Good point mate, would be interesting to know if there are any out there doing a job of work rather than trials.
  16. I was online last night researching the working type beardie, and came across the Brambledale site. This lady's been breeding them for 50 years, and been using working studs in her line since the late 60's( back when the difference beteen the working and show types wasn't so huge) Anyhow cut a long story short, she got sick of the show type branching so far from the original standard and eventually gave up trying to swim against the tide and stopped registering her dogs with the KC, and said she found it impossible to find the working type studs anymore anyhow amongst the registered dogs. The
  17. Still waiting for account activation myself, there's a message on there saying the moderator has had enough for now, sick of people goin on there to talk bollox and wind each other up (I'm paraphrasing) so he's jacked it for now(?). Shame really, probably would have been the best place to find my next pup this year, and do some research on the Beardie lines that make the grade. Heard good things about the forum, maybe it went to the dogs lately.
  18. The proper Spanish Galgo's are a bit thinner on the ground these days, at lot of the spanish hounds have english or irish grey breeding in em. The pure Galgo throws a broken coat as often as a smooth, and more of a saluki/sloughi build.
  19. Been followin this, you done a good thing there mate, should be proud. Bitch is looking better already, best of luck mate, the missus is praying for the dog for a speedy recovery. all the very best mate, you're a credit to the lurcher world.
  20. Exactly why a well trained dog that will break off and recall, is much more useful to a moocher than an 'all or nothing' coursing type (nowt against em just a specialist dog rather than an allrounder generally) For me, its a big job fer a whippet. You could fell a tree with a Hatchet, but why would you if theres chainsaws about. Theres enough of em brave enough an quick enough but its never gonna be as clean and quick as summat bred for purpose. The Whippet was bred for the rabbiting and racing niche, unfair to ask more. I would be a little upset if my dog called off quarry when he had r
