  1. Some great shots there Fuji, nothing comes close to the lakes without going up over the border. Dogs look ready to go...good times come sept.
  2. I agree with you if you're running a few dogs together dan, the pup still sees a catch at the end of it even if he was off the pace and didnt contribute. A dog running on its own with an unexperieced handler, at that age, may decide it cant catch rabbits a after a few failed attempts. Long after it is physically able, mentally the dog thinks its a lost cause and this manifests in the dog jacking or just being indifferent to chase at all. Will pick up on the young handler's lack of confidence too, making everything that bit worse. Much easier when you've an older experienced dog for the pup to
  3. Any Greyhound based lurcher (for the size requirement) that is shown itself to be biddable and obedient (if thats what you mean by clever) and has grown racy. Dont worry about what it 'is' too much, its more about what it 'does' you ask me. Just because two dogs have the same mix of breeds it doesnt necessarily mean they will turn out the same, ability wise.
  4. Exactly what he said mate, be patient (you'll need to be with a full sighthound mix like yours) you'll get more out of the dog in the long run. Its not set in stone that you shouldn't run bunnies spring/summer, but its not being respectful of the breeding times.....let em build up their numbers more to go at in Sept when you've got the basics down training wise. An untrained dog is just a massive arse pain...no joy in it....either you'll get pissed off cos the dogs just dickin around d not listening or the dog'll run itself into the next county. Good luck mate, credit to you for not just assum
  5. Sorry Jukel, went off on a tangent there mate. My experience with em is the nightmare of a time my mate/neighbour had with his sal/grey. The bitch was quick and caught well, but was hard work, crying and howling all night everynight, acted like it was deaf, sulked, pissed everywhere whenever it got indoors and could not be housebroken (by him anyway), to top it all off she killed two ferrets in the field, and damn near killed a little schauzer it met in the park, playing one minute, blood all over the next. I'd say she was a particularly bad example of the breed tho, some people do just seem t
  6. If the background of the photo was open fen land you'd think this was a UK/Ireland bred coursing hybrid, not a feather in sight. since when did salukis have to be feathered please enlighten us ? Didnt say they did have to be bud....read it thru and I wasnt that clear. What I mean is the 'real mcoy' saluki shown in this pic is a fit strong game bred coursing type not too different than the better Uk bred hybrids and a long way from the feathered showy type most people think of when you talk about saluki. Y'know the cow hocked ones that run like a pissed up bambi on roller skates

  9. They've been pets in the states (quite popular pets too) for a long time blackgrey, Not that many pulling the sleds for a long time ( alot doin competive weight pulls) mostly siberians, greenland dogs and iniut types, Malamute now is far cry from the old smaller sled pull types, same as Gsd in germany they took a smaller working type (Altdeutsche Hutehund) and turned it into a larger guard type. Malamute is just not the hard, working type you describe anymore.
  10. Interesting that some are using em for lurchers, spose if you have to drive to the nearest place you can let a dog run, then they make sense, mine always looked plenty fit to me just from running them after a ball or dummy during normal morning and evening walks......and getting plenty of work on top. Then again Ive never had the need for a proffesional lamper type dog (if such a thing even exists anymore).
  11. wouldn't worry about it mate, the only time it might matter is if you breed from her. Even then, what it can do will be alot more important than whats in it. Could be whippet xbeddy gray, could have a dash of collie and/or bull too, seen plenty of smooth beddy x's. good look wi her mate, looks a useful sort.
  12. Dams a good lookin animal, good luck wi the pup mate.
  13. Keeping eyes open for my first non-lurcher working dog, a busher to push out bunnies for the running dogs. Looking forward to try workin two different types together, should be right good craic. Lets see yer lurcher/busher teams, stuck wi no dogs till the house move goes thru.
  14. Dont know if anyone else has asked, but have you watched the two dogs feeding together, my brothers two had to be fed separate in the end cos one bitch was dominant over the other and its nicking its food. Tbh tho mate the bitch the pic left up looks a wee bit underweight too. Hope you get it sorted mate, Have a look at J.DOGs rescue bitch, he's doin a crackin job nursing that bitch back, if the vet solves any underlying issues you'll still have the job of building her back up. Good luck wi em, hope you can get her sorted. Cant blame whoever rang the rspca tho bud, if I saw the dog out and a
  15. Looked quite long in the tusk aswell, not that I've got anything to compare it to,nothing but roe up here in the north east,it would be nice to have a few cwd and muntjac up here Last time I try crack a joke on here......but yeah looked liked he'd been around a few year, nowt but Roe here either mate, F'kin hundreds of em (Ribble Valley/Forest of Bowland-west Penine) all doin their best to destroy me young fruit trees.....nice seein em about tho, rather too many than none any day
  16. They good eating mate? heard the meat's not to everyones taste.
  17. just before someone tells me I'm a calous c**t, you done the right thing by it mate, no sense in suffering any longer.
  18. Talkin to a fella today, says his mate bushes with a KC Corgi, reckons its a goodun too! Flushes game to guns, and retrieves.
  19. I'd say their always going to have a 'home field' advantage over the dog, knowing the land alot better. But when the rabbit's pushed and stressed the same obstacles that slow the dog can cause the rabbit to come a cropper, seen that time and time again....keep at it bud, the dog'll work out the ground, like someone else said tho, be worth havin a sweep for any 'hidden nasties' old sheet metal, etc. My old bitch Meg jumped down into a ditch and severed a blood vessel in her front paw on broken bottle......lots of blood, very difficult cut to get at up between the pads, lost a lot of blood, over
  20. Any pics mate....again, like the sound of that. I know a couple of lads have already said it, but I reckon this Bushing lark might deserve its own sub-forum, seems to bring together lurcher, terrier and gundog folk. If the object is to keep these traditions going, bushing/mooching is an easy starting point for youngsters coming into the working dog world. just a thought...likesay others have said.
  21. ouldn't mind seeing some pics as well. I've got a seven and a half week old cocker here, from cracking bloodlines. . . . . and i've been entertaining the thought of sticking him over my hound x, in the far future. You mean putting him to the Teckel/Beagle mate?....providing he shapes up to the job....could be interesting that, might start to see a busher x busher working type appear eventually in time....looks like there's a lot of interest in this type of work these days
  22. good lookin pup there pal...good dollop of collie in there she should catch on quick.
