  1. I've got a springer and I put it in the car even if i'm just going to the shop and back, I do this so it doesn't get overly excited and think every time it goes in the car it's going shooting, beating or for a walk in the country, mind you he's too smart for his own good and knows if the guns go in, he's out for the day:) I have a cage in the back which I had in the house for a week first with treats in to get him used to it, so once it went into the back of the car he was happy to jump straight in.
  2. in your post you speak of "hardworking ordinary people, who can no longer pay the stupidly high bills, put food on the table and are in real danger of losing their homes" which you also quote later on is not you as your comfortably in the black as are most hardworking individuals who are in employment, indeed from your comments I would assume your bordering on the middleclass. I can sympathise with your views but the people you need to mobilise in organised non violent protests are the low paid and unemployed, but as also quoted by other members a majority of those people could better and re-edu
  3. couple of weeks ago you may remember had a cracking day on the pigeon and run out of cartridges, rookie mistake, this week lugged all the gear and 2 slabs of cartridges in anticipation but nothing doing and the result, 4 cartridges used 3 very speculative and one bird in the bag, well I'm not going to get fat on that!! Tried two fields, same one as last time and one drilled recently, nothing coming into the decoys and not that much moving either, just the curse of the seagulls. finished early with the dog looking well bored and me totally knackered from hauling lead, blooming typical
  4. my nightmare would be: To be paid an extortionate amount to do a job, completely nob it up and have to explain myself to the whole country , be given another chance then nob it up again while being paid off with an amount most people won't see in a lifetime. Yep my nightmare is to be a banker, that's with a "b" though in the modern interpretation often the "b" is silent with the introduction of a "w", this is the new pronunciation which I am lead to believe will be introduced to the Oxford English Dictionary next edition
  5. thanks for all the advice, sounds like they're worth a punt, I've got the hutch ready now all I need to do is make a run and away we go
  6. not sure what they've been fed on or of they've ever seen a rabbit, does it make a huge difference?
  7. every ones got to start somewhere I suppose
  8. had a go at one last season, don't know why I bothered, I couldn't hit a wet sack tied to a post let alone a woodcock!! I best blag one off the gamekeeper if I want to tuck its beak into it's breastbone and all the malarkey
  9. hi all, been offered 2 jills for a fiver each, both have been pets and handled regularly but never worked, they are just coming up to a year old, my question is will they work? As you can probably tell i'm new to this game cheers Bruce
  10. Had the same down here, so many working on the farms in the fruit season it's like a swarm of locusts, they strip the supermarkets bare and the crime rate shoots through the roof. Not saying their all bad but when you see what they cook up in their caravans when they are staying on the farms a carp is probably a tasty treat. Normally find lines tethered under bushes and in difficult to fish swims, sneaky devils, one of the local farmers even caught his own foreign workers bbqing them straight out of his own lake!!
  11. I know you'd like it tuned up but can't be too sad if it's happily knocking over bunnies, pigeon and the odd pheasant. My 77 is as it was when it came out of the factory and has plenty of punch. it's a .20 cal, some people hate them at this calibre but it does the bizzo on all I've ever used it for.
  12. Dropping the price of my sera fishing gear as the luggage is spotted with mildew so chucking it in for free, still useable though. So now down to £250 OVNO or swap for 3 shot semi auto
  13. I think that's what the dummy collars are for, though not had experience with them
  14. Interesting read that philuk, and good job for finding the relevant studies and posting it too strengthen your side of the debate. Just to keep it ticking along Would you say that a dog which has to be kept on a lead is happier than a dog which has been trained with a collar and can now run about under the control of the handler(not being shocked)? I'm not taking into account whether the dog could have been trained without the use of a collar, just if the dog is happier. I would say with personal experience that my dog is much happier running about after being trained not t
  15. well this topic has certainly got thing s going, as I have said earlier I use a collar for correction as the dog had a tendency to disappear into the distance, probably my fault for not getting into training him earlier but he had been through 3 pairs of hands before we got him, even though he was only between 7 and 9 months old. I don't shock him now as there is no need, although I did feel the need to do so before, but every now and then he gets beeped when he forgets himself. I don't use the collar when he's retrieving as this was A. never a problem that requires in my view any physical cor
  16. just finished mowing the grass and doing some glossing, not both at the same time I have to add! now going to start striping the front room walls in between studying for my BA degree in IT which i'm doing through the Open University. So where does all this spare time come from? At the moment I can't work, why after you've just done all that I hear you say? At the moment I have a fistula which is a permanent hole in my stomach from my bowel, for ease of description like a small arse hole!! and yes blood, puss a other nasty's leak out, not nice and a bit smelly at times this needs dressing twice
  17. cut casings off, scape out the bit left in the end caps, squeeze 2 end caps together and drill a small hole through the edge fit a chain + ring and you've got a key ring. Round lighters fit into spent cartridges well, drill a small hole in the bottom of the end cap for the refillable versions, preferably before you put the lighter in!!
  18. catch them at it, then you can prove that it's not you and do the landowner a favour at the same time. Might take a few lonely nights on watch but at least that way you can build up trust with the land owner and get your shoot back. You don't have to confront them just get some evidence, photo's or video on your phone or such like and Bobs your uncle your out shooting again!! That's what i'd do but then when someone pisses me off i'm like a dog with a bone and if I've been put out you can bet your house i'm going to make sure their put out :/
  19. Had a similar problem with my Springer, spoke to different trainers and they all had differing views on a remote collars, I have to say I've never trained a gun dog before and this dog started as just a family pet, it walked to heal ok on a lead and was happy to sit and stay, retrieved balls and dummies in the back garden, which is quite large, not the best at delivering to hand but he's getting there. when I used to take him out for walks I had to keep him on the lead as he'd disappear into the distance, he'd always come back but only when he wanted to, and I know before you say it, not the
  20. I have an old warhorse of a 77 and it's never let me down, all the blueing has gone and it's had more knocks than the front door of a brothel!! My son has used it since he was strong enough to cock it, even then he had to rest it on a road spike as he couldn't hold it for long enough to ding the woodies out of the trees which backed onto our garden, and yes we did live rural and had permission from the landowner to shot vermin out of his private woodland, he's now 21. Couldn't tell you what scope is on it now he seems to change it more often than his socks!! still uses a road spike and lashes
  21. I would like to swap for a 3 shot semi auto shot gun my sea fishing set up, 1 x matched pair Shakespeare Tidewater multiplier beach casters with abu reel seats, pair of Abu 6500 multipliers, both red but slight colour difference, Ian Golds tripod, matching Salt Rod bag and Ruck sack and Ron Thompson beach buddy. Worth easily about £300 in my reckoning, if your interested I'll post pictures. I'm in Kent
  22. Sounds to me like some ones got a grudge and a friend on the force, a friend of mine had a colleague at work refuse to work with her as she did beating on her days off, fortunately her boss didn't entertain her colleagues wishes to change shifts so she had to put up and shut up but it just shows that the antis are out there and need no excuse to have a moan, unfortunately in this case they found a sympathetic ear. I've got pictures of me and my grandkids fishing on Facebook and it won't be long before the eldest one comes beating and eventually shooting, my profile picture on here is the same
